Mother Nature-approved staples to make your room rock

Get back to nature this weekend with our four fave ways to greenify your space. We’ve got projects that’ll change your boudoir’s mood in seconds…or a couple o’ days. Try what works for your pace—and  trust us, Mother Earth will be happy with any of these options!

Light it up

Replace your standard bulbs with energy efficient, super long-lasting fluorescent ones. Wanna set the mood? Light a candle that’s eco-friendly. Candles made from soy, vegetable oil or beeswax instead of paraffin will help keep the air quality of your room top-notch.

Fab up your furniture

Instead of replacing stuff you’re tired off, switch things up by hauling it outside this weekend, sanding it down and redoing the finish. You can change out knobs and drawer pulls, paint ‘em a funky shade or stain them for a classic, clean look. Need some seating? Head to a thrift store and pick up an inexpensive chair and some fabric. All you’ve gotta do is grab a staple gun (and a parent!) to give it a fresh appearance.

Slip on some shades

Hanging curtains over your windows and keeping them closed when you aren’t in the room will help cool down your space, especially if you’re room gets a lot of sunlight during the day. Mom and Dad will thank you when they get their next energy bill!

Recycle!

Tossing your old school papers in the recycling bin is a grade-A move, but how ‘bout this one? Instead of tossing old presentation posters, hold on to them. The sturdy paper is great for collages. When you’re finished reading your monthly supply of mags (or take some stellar new shots of you and your sweeties), simply paste them on top of what’s already there. Hang ‘em on the wall for a new work of art.
