Your Halloween costume might predict the next prez
Collecting candy, creative costumes, jack-o’-lanterns and… a
presidential prediction? That’s right, along with zombie makeup and free
chocolate, voting predictions are a big part of Halloween this election year. Halloween stores across the nation claim that the
winner of this year’s election will be foretold by observing presidential mask
sales.
As costume-wearers all over the U.S. buy masks in the
likeness of presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, Halloween
stores are busy calculating. Store owners anticipate that the candidate with
the most masks sold will be the next president of the United States.
Of course, not everyone buys the mask of their fave candidate. Some shoppers are dressing as the candidate they like the least while others dress like the candidate they think would make the funniest costume.
Whatever the sale variables, the accuracy of the previous years’
predictions is hard to ignore.
Buycostumes.com claims to have correctly
predicted the winner of the presidential election for the last three election
years in a row. Spirit Halloween boasts a correct prediction for the previous
four elections.
So who’s winning? According to Buycostumes.com, democrats
are ahead with 53 percent of sales while republicans race to catch up with 47
percent. Spirit Halloween’s Presidential Index shows Obama mask sales at 65
percent and Romney way behind at 35 percent. Several other Halloween stores
across the nation continue to brag about their mask sales and calculations; the
percentages vary but all stores agree that Obama is in the lead.
What do you think about Halloween stores predicting the next
president? Would you ever dress up like your fave candidate? Blog about it,
babes.
