Worried about staying in shape during winter? Too cold to run outside? No worries! I've got a solution for you, chickies! Do leotards, pink tights, tutus and bunheads ring a far off bell? Of course it does! I've brought back the good old days of my ballerina youth by taking ballet classes twice a week. You don't have to be five-years-old to take ballet!
It has def gotten me into shape over the past few months. My classes are filled with plies, jetes, leaps, pirouttes and lots of stretching! My muscles get to try new things every class and I toootally love it. It's such a fun and refreshing activity because you can really feel your body getting worked. My legs and arms have definitely toned up with all the repetitive exercises. I've gotten into the habit of stretching outside of class and I love how flexible I am now!
Although it's a fun way to get in shape, ballet is also a strict and serious type of dance. It's not like hip hop where you can express emotions in any way you want. There are specific ways to stand, pose, point and twirl. Classes can also get a little pricey, but it's def worth it if you're willing to give it your all!
If you're up for something new and intense, ballet is totally for you! You don't have to have prior experience. Just head down to the closest dance studio and sign yourself up for a beginner's! Have fun, ladies!!!

I tried ballet when I was younger, and I didn't like it. It's just not my type. But have fun with it though, Sharon!

yea i don't like ballet - isn't my type, like fluteplaya said. actually i'm just not dance-y at all, or at least the sort of dance you take classes for. i haven't had good experiences in my local dance studio, and that's the only one around. plus, all the people my age who take ballet are SUPER good, so i'd have to take a class with like 7yrolds. how annoying.

I also had tried ballet when I was younger. I liked it, but not enough to deal with the teasing I got for being pudgy. :-(

I tried it when I was younger for three years but did not really like it. My friend spends hours doing ballet, jazz, and teaching it to younger kids (literally hours-3-4 days a week) so I can see how people love it!

The problem with me is that I don't like any excercise, not even dancing. I only like to walk or bike and right now it's too cold to do those things No matter what I try I never like it and I'm usually terrible at it. anyone else have this problem? I'dd really like to know...

i do 3 hours of dance a week at a top 50 studio in the US and i take ballet tap and jazz. stretching is important as you grow and when you accomplish doing a leg lift it feels so good and it makes you happy! i have done ballet for 6 years i want to go on pointe now though.

im not really a dancer...i did do ballet when i was littler...and i do dance team at school. but i prefer martial arts and volleyball. hey girlies that hate "excercise"! do you like to swim? not even like competition swimming, but going to the pool? try that! im a running person, and now its too cold to run outside, so on either saturday or sunday i go to the gym with my dad and we do at least an hour of weight lifting and then like, half an hour of cardio (treadmills work well with that!) so thats a suggestion if you think u dont have an athletic bone in your body, try martial arts. its great and easy, but still a great workout. try taking it with a friend, but dont expect to be able to goof off or anything.... ♥Alyx

WELL... you said that u were injured, right? well, maybe you could just listen to the music u normally dance to, but if that makes you too sad, then maybe you could take your mind off it by doing extra shool work or keeping really buzy with friends... i mean, i havn't really found a sport i'm extremly passionate about yet, so it's hard for me to give you adive, luvyalots, but ya, i tried. I would do ballet... but there is kinda a fear my friends would make fun of me... and wat if i haven't done it in like 7 years and i have 2 take a class w/ younger kids!! that would b kinda embarssing...

ive been in dance for 11 years and it is my absolute favorite thing to do in the whole world...i do jazz hiphop and tap for 3 hours one night and then ballet for an hour another night...ballet is really structured but it is the basis for all dance so i recommend taking it before other types of dance...i ♥ dance haha ♥hollie

Oh my gosh! I tried ballet when I was 3 too, but I just wasn't outgoing enough to make it through the dance performances.

luv ya lots!: If you're depressed without dance, try dancing again. Do any moves you can do, and you'll be a bit less sad.

I LOVE Ballet! I have been dancing since I was four or five, and finally took up ballet again! It's uber fun! And if you want something faster, try ballet or hip-hop! I've taken Jazz three years now, and I have done hip-hop for six. Hip-hop is really fast, with songs you probably know from the radio. Jazz is upbeat too, and you can dance to songs you know from the radio too! It just requires a BUNCH of work to master some moves, like pirouettes! I'm trying to get a double! Uber hard for me! Anyway, thanks for listenting to my whole dance related spiel. : ) Mikaela

ummm... i disagree about what the moderator said about how its "not like hip hop where you can express emotions in any way you want. There are specific ways to stand, pose, point and twirl" anyone can be a robbotic dancer by satnding in the poses "poniting" etc. Ballet is a gorgeous type of dance which requires a ton of emotion and patience. hip-hop and other forms of dance are all built off of ballet. if you ever pay attention and analyze the moves in hip-hop compared to the slow moves of ballet you will find you are standing in positions and plie-ing and doing almost everything that is done at the barre in ballet! any type of dance requires emotion, it is what makes a dancer individual and magnificant.

i LOVE ballet. it keeps me in shape! but it takes ALOT of work!
Posted by: Cynthia on 2/6/2008 9:35:23 PM
i agree w/ humdedum about how hip hop and everything else is built off of ballet (even though i m not a ballet dancer). without ballet, there probably wouldnt even be hip hop or jazz etc.
