This is going to sound really gross, but I have a horrible habit of picking the hairs on my arms. I can’t help it! I try not to, but it bugs me so much! What’s wrong with me? Do any other girls have these compulsions or is it just me? Please help. -LovelyLady

Pulling out your hair is similar to other bad habits, such as biting your nails. However, you're not alone. It is possible that you may have an impulse control disorder known as Trichotillomania or TTM for short. This disorder causes you to feel an urge to pull out your hair. Fortunately, there are treatments that can help you.
Why do you feel an urge to pick your hairs? Are you stressed out at school? Going through a difficult time with a friend? These are all reasons why you may feel the need to pull your hairs even though you don't want to. Maybe you could try other healthier ways to relieve stress, such as working out, reading or dancing. The best thing you can do is talk to your parents and visit a doctor for more help.

i also had a problem but it was not mine it was my friend!!she us to always like pluch her eyebrows like over and over intill she didnt even have eyebrowS!!! she did this because she thoght that her boyfirnd didnt really like her if her eyebrows were ugly so she kept plunching it intill there was nothing left to pluch!! now her and her boyfriend are still together! Because he said he would love her no matter what!!! so she now has eyebeows again but pluchs intill her boyfriend till her that is enough!!!

MODERATOR MOD Please I need help! I just got my bangs cut straight across and I dont like them very much. I am trying to find ways to wear them and accesories to us but it isn't working out. I can't even clip my bangs back! What are some accesories and hairstyles I can use? Please Help ME!!!
Hey babes, unfortunately there isnt much you can do with bangs, you can definately clip them back with bobby pins though so try that or just hold them back with a headband. As they get long, part them and make them sweep across your eyes

MOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! alright, I have a huge problemo! so, im a freshman, and i really really really like this kid named greg. he is nice, funny, and talks to me and stuff when i talk to him. sounds great, right? well, he is a football player and hangs out with the football pleayers and the cheerleaders (oh so typical) and im pretty popular, but i dont hang with his group. im a soccer player, so i tend to hang with the soccer group. so, i really like this kid, but we hang with so differnt groups its hard to be with him and all, you know, just to talk and flirt. he is always with the footballers and the cheerleaders. so how can i be with him more to talk and flirt and how on earth do i ask him out without being mortified? i can never ever ask guys out! like ive had my share of boyfriends, but they always ask me out....please help me!!!!!! xoxoxoxoxoxo, soccrrfan02
Hey girl, all this stuff with groups is really messing people up, there is no rule that says you can ONLY hang with people who have similar tastes as you. The next time you see him say hi and make yourself available, people will notice you for crossing boundaries and putting yourself out there

Omg, I had the same problem. I picked out hair from my arms and eyebrows. I even shaved my arms so I couldn't do it. But now I am better and only have the urge a few times a month.

Mod- I can't help that I bite(or scrap) my skin by the side of my finger.It looks SO embarassing!! HELP!!!
oh girl i have the SAME problem, I have found that if I get a manicure every once in a while, it keeps the skin from getting dry and peely, also make sure that you are moisturizing all the time to keep your digits soft

i know you guys hate it when people say first comment...so ill actually leave one. my moms friend used to pull her eyelashes out because of stress. this kinda reminded me of it... maybe you could replace a bad habit with a good habit, like...filing your nails?? haahha idk

I have TTM too! I've had it for five years, and I'm just starting to be able to control myself. I pulled out my eyelashes and eyebrows, so I had like no hair on my face at all and looked like a total freak still trying to get over it, but this one's a toughie. ;)

hey I have a wicked bad habit of biting my nails but heres a solution: my mom bought me a bunch o stuf and said I couldn't have anything in the bag intill my nails cleared up. it helps even tho u r tortured.

hey Mod- Any ideas for quitting biting nails? I've done it for as long as I can remember and my nails are totally gross. I have hangnails and the tips of my fingers are all red and swollen. I seriously need to stop (my cuticles are gross too!) because sometimes it really hurts, plus I hate how my nails look. I've been trying to stop for ages, but nothing helps. I either can't remember when I bit them or I don't BITE them, I pick at them (which sucks, because the bad tasting nail polish doesn't work). I just can't stop!Not even my braces have prevented me and I'm afriad I'll break a bracket one day! I can't paint my nails to make them look pretty so I won't bite or pick because they're not long enough to paint at all. My mom got tips and those stopped her, but I don't want really long nails- just NAILS that look decent and aren't stubs! I like to write and I'm afraid I won't be able to type or write or anything with tips. I use my hands mostly for things and tips just don't seem like a good idea. I really need help here!

my bad habit is picking at my cudicles, im gettin better but its sooo hard to break!!! i started chewing my nails in second grade but replaced that habit in 3rd grade with pickin my cudicles and im in 6th grade now and still do it!!!

mod: i think a guy likes me-these are some signs: tries to touch me alot on the shoulder or back or he pokes me asks me questions alot like why don't you get hot lunch or do you sunburn or tan?and when i told him i get tan he didnt' believe me! stares at me alot calls me this one nickname everyone calls me to annoy me(but he says even more even when i tell him to stop) he also asked why i wasn't doing anything (in p.e.)cuz it was free recess-so i rebounded his basketball and then i played basketball with him a little and he said i was good(i'm not good at all)-he's lying! if i tell him my test grade and its sorta bad he's like thats good!-and he's got a better grade! do you think he likes me?

Once my period was really heavy and I made sure to double up with a tampon and pad. Later that day at school, my crush walked up to me and asked me what was on the back of my pants. I didn't know what he was talking about, so I ran to the bathroom. When I came back, I had to tell him it was ketchup.
