BEAUTY 101: Battle of the Bangs

I want to have side-bangs, like Lauren Conrad from MTV's "The Hills," but my hair will never stay to the side. I’ve tried to straighten it and blow dry it. I don't know if I need a special product to help it stay. When I try to do it, it gets all piece-y and looks bad! HELP!!!

Hey Lauren! So you want side-bangs like your namesake, huh? Well, sure! They can be tricky, but if you follow these steps, you'll have bangs so gorgeous your friends will be askin' "Where's Audrina?"

Step One: Start with damp hair. Whether you take a shower or throw your hair under the faucet for a quick-rinse through, it's easiest to tame hair that's a little wet. Run a towel through your locks to soak up the extra H2O, and you're ready to go

Step Two: Squeeze out a nickel-sized portion of styling liquid. Then, with your head bent over, hair upside-down, run your glazed fingers through your locks concentrating on the front.

Step Three: Keep your head down and use your blow dryer to get hair half dry. Then, flip up to face the mirror. Shake out your hair until the bangs fall to your face and you can grab them easily.

Step Four (a.k.a. the most important step): Using a large, round brush, blow dry bangs to the FRONT until they're completely dry. It may sound strange, but before you blow your bangs to the side, they need to sit nicely towards the front.

Step Five: Next, with your blow dryer on a low setting, blow your bangs in the direction they naturally fall (or the direction you'd like them to fall toward!). Guide them along with the top of the round brush. Keep hairspray handy to spritz in while drying. At this point they should have some volume, but be comfortably set to the side.

Step Four: Continue drying the rest of your hair, but be careful not to mess with the bangs. Finish off with some hairspray and you should be good to go!

luckily, my bangs stay to the side!
but it's still physically impossible to straighten my hair...
i bet it if got a japanese straightening treatment
they would still be curly, haha

I want bangs about to my nose but i take ballet and i need them back out of my face. So should i get them cut and play with them or leave them alone?

you can get them cut and have bangs, just be prepared to have to pin them back all the time!! xoxoashley

i have really puffy and frizzy hair. Strands of my hair like stick out and I can't put my hair down at all. How can I stop all the frizz? Hairspray doesn't work.

hey! try to put a relaxer in your hair, you can find them at any drugstore and there are a lot of cheap ones. xoxoashley

personally if your on a tight budget go to walmart and get "L.A. LOOKS MEGA MEGA HOLD SPRAY GEL" It will hold your bangs down heres the steps
1.Get your hair wet
2.pull bang away from the rest of your hair
3. spray the gel and let it naturaly dry
You have bangs to the side

I have a quick question. I run a lot and I sweat in my hair. Well, sometimes I don't have time to wash my hair. So, if I'm going to the movies with my friends my hair smells dirty and it is hair and not playful!!
Is there anything I could do???

hey if you are going to the movies, and you dont have time to wash your hair, then put it up and wear a headband to cover it up! xoxoashley

wow. i kinda have the same problem, except my bangs are grown out. my friend that has side bangs says they are HORRIBLE and annoying, but they look really good.

Flutestar- you don't mod to other people. You mod to the mod. It stands for 'moderater' they answer your questions. You just start out with, "dear mod" or something like that...and mods are real people, that just their, 'nickname.'

I have bangs and never know what to do with them they are always looking terrible and stringy! I like when they are freshly blow dryed!! {It gives bangs volume!} I have really flat hair so what I do is when you get out of the shower/bath towel dry for 2 min until hair isn't dripping wet then flip head over and blow dry the back {stay in that position until hair is comepletly dry} then brush out sprits w/ hair spray or liquid gel and your ready!!

I wanted to get side bangs but I do ballet and I know I could just pin them back but we go to competition alot and when you pin them back they don't look as clean. Is there some a certim length or style of bangs that I could get that I could still but them in a ponytail and then in a bun?

hey, if this is right, the bun isnt exactly on the top of your head but its pretty high up. talk to a hair stylist about your situation and they will do their best to cut them the right length! xoxoashley

I really didn't want to because i really like him. He nodded that it was ok and i could tell that he was bummed. i felt so bad! I would do anything to keep that adorable smile and those shining eyes happy. I asked my mom if i could say yes, and she said no. I concluded that i should just call him, but i don't know what to say. the only thing that i want to say is yes. I really need help. i am depressed. What should i say to him on the phone? Thanks.

I just told my mom that I might want to get side bangs and she said, "but you never wanted to get bangs before!" I told her because it was the annoying ones that get in your eyes, but she just got all huffy. I don't get her!

Everytime I like something know matter what it is, if I tell my mom she says something like,"But you never liked(or wanted)that before." Or, you are just want to be like so and so." Why does she do this to me? You don't have to have liked something forever, and besides, as you get older you like different things. I have stopped telling her I am into something or that I want to do something, because she'll do this. HELP!
