HEALTHY RECIPES: Fruit Kebobs

What You’ll Need:

*Wooden shish-kebob sticks
*Fruit possibilities: kiwi, pineapple, strawberries, navel oranges, red or green grapes, watermelon, melon, papaya
*2 limes

Note: Sometimes the grocery will sell fresh pineapples with the top, core, and skin removed. Buy one of these – you can see if it’s ripe and it’s a lot easier than cutting it yourself.

What You’ll Do:

1. The kebobs need to be made the day of the party so they don't deteriorate, allowing enough time to cut up the fruit. Wash and dry the fruit as needed. Cut into one-inch pieces. Make sure that fragile fruit such as kiwi and papaya are cut into thick enough pieces so they stay on the sticks.

2. Figure out a pattern for your sticks such as melon-grape-strawberry, repeat, etc. Put the fruit on the sticks in that order, leaving room on each end for handling. Cut the limes into wedges.

3. Lay the sticks on a round platter so the ends are around the edge of the circle. Place the lime wedges around the outside of the platter. Place a flower in the middle of the platter if you have one. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until serving time.

Tools:

*Cutting board
*Paring knife, chef’s knife
*Wooden kebob sticks

What is a really healthy summer drink like lemonade? I love lemonade in the summer, But it has sooooooooo much sugar!! Also, I am feeling really lonely, which makes me feel not so great about myself. When I'm around my friends, I feel like I'm pretty and feel good about my body. I feel so sad without my friends.

Hey girlie- it's best to talk to your doc about this sort of stuff cause there is all sorts of research goin' into it--- but...why not start switchin off with some yummy decaf teas? It'd be oh-so-zen of you. I love green tea--- try it! XOXO Samantha

Julie Jean on 7/18/2008 4:17:19 PM

this recipe sounds great!! but don't forget to soak the wooden sticks in water before you make it. cause if you don't then the sticks might splinter as you add the fruit. =]

jaccdeevazz on 7/23/2008 2:05:47 PM

Oh my goodness this looks so good but i would use blue berries, watermellon and peaches...YUM!!!

brandiemichelle01 on 8/2/2008 4:21:51 PM

all i can say is YUM!!!

fitzgibbon_713 on 8/3/2008 3:43:00 PM

ok. that looks good. i somtimes add maple syrup to orange juice(just a lil but tho) and add some fruit. it tastes soooooo good!

kitkatgal on 8/7/2008 12:46:46 PM

I dissagree with buying the pineapple pre-cut; because you get more bang for your buck when you buy it with the top and skin on, you dont waste all that plastic they package it in, and waste the extra pineapple they throw out to make it fit in the containers. Also, I find that fresh pineapple tastes more fresh and tart than pre-packaged.

kathygurl13 on 8/7/2008 9:22:56 PM

Hey aropostale chick! Long grain brown rice is a better option than white rice. It is mega healthier for you and it has a more earthy taste than white.

kathygurl13 on 8/7/2008 9:25:44 PM

Hey Julie Jean! Trying out decaf is also a good option. It has all the same antioxitants that are good for you, but without the caffine that some research says can stunt your growth.
Though, if you don't won't stains on your teeth from caffinated or decaffinated coffee, stick with the tea. I like mint sleepy time tea, lemon zinger tea, peppermint tea, black tea, and green tea from Celestial Seasonings. I wouldn't suggest buying it from a grocery store if your going to get a lot, it gets expensive fast. I get it from Amazon.com and local discount grocery stores. Same tea, better deal. Hope you find what you like!
