What's a period?

 

 

Menstruation is totally normal. It usually happens to girls between ages 9 and 16. Simply put, getting your period means your reproductive organs have started cranking.


Starting to menstruate—or worrying about when you will—can be a little stressful. But, there’s really no reason to freak. All women get their periods at some point, and you will, too—whether you like it or not.

Yes, it can be totally inconvenient, and some aspects can be pretty uncomfortable (like killer cramps—ugh!). But, it really is an amazing thing. Nature in action!

im 12 and haven't gotten my period yet. i hear your only supposed to get discharge a couple months before your period, but i've had it a lot longer than that. a lot of the signs have come up, but it seems like i should have gotten mine already. my sister got it when she was 10 or 11, and the same with my mom. about six months ago my doctor told me itd come really soon, but it just hasnt. Whats wrong?

im 12 and i havent gotten my period yet but ive gotten signs (breast pain, discharge, little light pink spots and cramping) also both my mom and older sis got their period when they were this age.... my older sis started about his time of year 2 years ago... is my period coming soon cuz i really wanna get it.... also im scared about putting in a tampon when i get it any tips??

Hey girl, take a deep breath and know it'll come when it's time. You're totally normal. As for inserting a tampon, just follow the package instructions. For your first period, though, I'd suggest using a pad just to because it's more comfy.
