Nighttime Bed Wetting: Whats wrong with me?

Dreaming about peeing is likely your body’s way of trying to make you aware that you need to “go.” But when you sleep through it, well…

If it happened once, don’t sweat it. Even if it occurs occasionally, it’s not uncommon: About 3 percent of kids under 14 wet the bed. Dr. John Gallehr, Carita Peace Center, Louisville, Ky. explains, "either your brain isn’t shutting down urine production at night or you don’t wake up when your bladder’s full. Over time, your body learns to do both."

Try this: 1) Don’t drink liquids a few hours before bedtime. 2) Set an alarm for 2 a.m. so you can use the bathroom. 3) Get a Potty Pager (pottypager.com). It will wake you up when you’re about to go—and train your brain to gain control over your bladder within a few months. Drier days are ahead!

MOD!!MOD!!MOD!!MOD!! I'm 11 and I STILL wet the bed.I have ever since I was 5.I am going to a friend's sleepover.1#What do I do ?? 2#Is it normal at age 11!!!??? Could you awnser before 10:10 PLEASE!!!

Hey girl,
It probably just means that your bladder isn't fully grown yet.  I'm sure the problem will go away within a year or two.  But if you're really concerned, ask to go see a doctor to get a professional opinion and see what else you can do.  For now, if you don't feel comfortable sleeping over someone else's house, you can ask your parents to pick you up early (around 11 or 12 at night) and tell your friends it's because you have an appointment really early in the morning.  good luck and keep your chin upSmile

I used to wet the bed a lot. It was terrible. Once, it happened at a sleepover. That was really embarassing!
I grew out of it now though.

ok so I have been sick 4 the last 3 days and I have stayed home from school the last 2 days and idk if I should go tomorow cuz I have a really bad headace right now and we had the math test today but we can make it up if we missed it so I went to the doc yesterday and they said I was just fighting something off so Idk if I should go 2 school 2morow or not cuz right now I fell ok Frown so do u think I should go tomorow or if I should just stay home one last day to make Shure I'm fine

Hey babe, I think you should wait until the morning to decide. There's a reason you can make tests up for sick days like this so if you're feeling up to it you can always go and maybe leave if you feel sick at school or just stay home to give it another day to be sure you're ok. Talk to your parents about it to help ya. Feel better!

i had a bed wetting problem for the longest time, but you'll grow out of it eventually. I'm 14 now, and I didn't stop wetting the bed til i was 12!

i dont wet my bed anymore

chocolatelover13 on 9/19/2009 7:53:56 AM

I used to wet the bed a lot. Then, after a while, I just peed in my pants. I grew out of it though...when I was 11. So yeah, no worries, it WILL end! That's just cuz my mom said I might be near my first period.

TwiSapphire on 9/18/2009 10:44:36 PM

I wet the bed- super embarrassing at sleepovers. A lot of times I dream that I have to go to the bathroom, and I think I'm awake, so I pee. It's horrible at sleepovers- my sleeping bag is soaked, and I always pack extra undies just incase! Glad it's normal!

SummerRox on 9/11/2009 9:13:05 PM

I havent wet my bed in a while but a few times when I woke up in the morning it felt really wet down there like I had wet the bed but then I noticed that I didnt.

So I didnt know what the wetness was from and it was a weird feeling but I was just glad I didnt pee in my sleep. And if I did it was only a very small bit.

luckykel on 9/10/2009 8:38:04 PM

I used to bed wet rvery night. I didn't do for a couple of years then I did last night. I'm glad it is normal.

kiwi827 on 5/7/2009 6:33:27 AM

Hey babes,

That's a tough one.  Maybe speak to the rents about checking in with the doc about various methods other than meds that can help you.

chicchick12 on 2/24/2009 7:16:22 PM

i feel sorry for whoever does!! I used to and i didn't feel okay even going to my bestfriend's house for a sleepover!

sunshinesmile on 1/31/2009 9:33:59 AM

happens to me too ;~( but not evrynite like wehn I was littler.... It does get better believe me.

SSaDiE on 1/8/2009 6:42:55 PM

Yeah...I've been wetting the bed since I was young and I still haven't really stopped...even though my lil sis of 8 has. It worried me for a while and then I talk to my mom and she set an appointment with the doc. Now I take these pills that keep me from wetting and I'm not afriad of sleeping over at a friends house or imbarressed about it. It's a life savor!!!

KristieCoo on 11/18/2008 2:27:25 AM

i always pee right before i sleep. lol. i never had a bed wetting problem even when i was little, but whenever we went on trips or long car drives id have to pee every five minutes. i always made my parents stop at gas stations. then id wake up in the middle of the night and pee every five minutes. for a while, they thought about taking me to a doctor. lol. but no worries cuz i grew out of it. Tong

PrettyNPink on 11/2/2008 7:34:04 PM

It helps if you go right before you sleep too, even if you dont really have to.

aubjordan on 10/14/2008 5:52:28 AM

i wet the bed too-unfortuantly. It is really imbarassing especially if it happens at sleep-overs...i try not to drink anything like two hours or so before bed and it usually helps.

hockeychic101 on 8/27/2008 6:17:48 PM

wow this is good advice because i wet the bed and im almost going into high school. ill try them and c if they wrk. : )
