Your Guide to Picking the Right Bra

 


Sizing things up
Your bra size is made up of two parts. The first number is your frame size (30, 32, 34, etc.) the second letter is your cup size (A, B, C, etc.).
 
To figure out yours, take a tape measure and measure snugly around your ribs, just under your bustline. If the measurement is on an odd number, add 5. If it's an even number, add 6 (for example, if you measure 26 around, you're a size 32). Total them up and that's your frame size.
 
Next, wrap the tape around your body again, this time measuring at the fullest part of your chest. Do this standing up straight, checking in a mirror that the tape is level. Subtract your original frame size from this measurement. Then check the chart below to figure out your cup size:
 


Bra Fitness: How to tell you’ve got the right stuff
You’re fairly sure you have the right band and cup size but something just doesn’t feel quite right. Let us assure you that there is one word that should describe any bra no matter what your chest size—comfortable. You have to wear one every day and you better make sure each and every one of them fits so well you’ll forget it’s even there. Well, almost.

Fit problem: I’m spilling out. Cups that are too small need to be larger (and vice versa) but a changing the cup size can also change the band size. The C cup on a size 36 is the same as a B cup on a 38. If you go down a band size, you’ll go up a cup size. So try a going a step up and down on the band and cup size to get your perfect fit. And don’t forget about half sizes and “nearly” sizes from makers like Playtex.

Fit problem: My band is riding up in back. Your bra band is too loose, your cups are too small or both. Try going up a cup size or down a band size. And remember that a large bust needs a wider, closer fitting band than smaller busts to provide proper support.

Fit problem: My straps are sliding off my shoulders. The easiest thing to do is tighten them up using the adjustment on each shoulder strap. If you have very narrow shoulders or if they slope, look for more sports-bra type cuts that have wider straps placed closer to your neck.

Fit Problem: My straps are digging into my shoulders. Your band is too loose band or cups your cups are too small. If your bust is larger, you also might want to look for a bra with wider straps.

Im 12 and I haven't gotten my period yet but I've had discharge for 8 months. I want to know more about getting your period (how it'll feel, what to do, etc.) but my mom doesn't tell me anything and I feel really akward asking her about it because it seems like SHE feels akward too! Hey babe, periods can be an awkward topic, but they're just a fact of female life. So sometime when it's just you and your mom hangin' out, ask her if you can talk to her about something private. Just be honest, and tell her that you know it's awkward, but you wanna be prepared when you get your period. She's a girl, too, so she'll understand.

Hey chica! If your bras aren't fitting you, you have to tell your mom so you can get a bra that fits you. There's really no other way around it unless you go shopping without her.

MOD!!!!!!! I measured myself and it came out to be a 30B but i don't think my boobs are that big. I'm usually a 32 or a 34A. But the band IS a little big but if i try a 30A my boobs will spill over. so does that mean i am really a 30B? My mom will probably think its too big she tells me i wear my bras too big, but if i get a smaller size the cup is too small and i spill over. Sorry its a little long, but THANKS!!!! Smile




Hey girl!!  Next time you go shopping for a bra, you should try asking someone who works there.   Even though it's a little awkward, they will always be willing to help you find the right size and measure you correctly, that's what they're there for!!  Here's also a link you should check out about buying bras!! My mom got me 2 training bras a while ago but now I am finding that I don't have enough. Even if i wear one like 2 days in a row they end up getting smelly (i sweat alot!) or dirty. How am I supposed to tell my mom i need to get some more? I am very embarrassed... And also if I ask her, what should i say?

If the bra is peeking over your shirt, then it is the wrong bra for that shirt! With tanks, you should wear strapless bras so that the straps don't show. They also usually are lower so the top covers them.

Just talk to your mom about it... She went through the same thing when she was your age.  Sure, it might be awkward at first.  But, it's less awkward switching from a training bra to a new bra, than it was when you asked to get a bra... She will understand!

Hey girl, I'd stick with a training bra for now (you're a little young for a cup bra; your bod is just starting to grow). You can always have your chest measured at a department store too to get their take on bra size (they're experts)

I measured myself, and got 30D. duz that sound right, because to me, 30 seems really small, but D seems really big. Is 30D a normal size?

 

I think there's a chance it could be right but you don't normally see that size out so I think you might have measured wrong. I know at some department stores in the lingerie section, they have people that can do bra-fitting for you, if that might help.

Hey girl! Definitely invest in a sports bra, and you can always try out the next size up to see how it fits. If it's not comfortable, then stick to the size you have, but you can always choose a different style!

i just did the bra size test on the site and my frame measurement was 25" which is a 30, and my cup measurement was 30" which i checked was over a D cup size...but I'm perfectly fine with the 32As that my mom just picked out compared to her and said fit me...
was i doing the measurements wrong or should i get new bras? I've been wearing the same ones since summer soo...




Hey babe, it's definitely possible you could be doing the measurements wrong. Ask your mom about it, but if you're comfortable in the bras you're wearing then you should be fine.  It's a good idea to get new bras when the ones you have get worn out though!

When we go bra shopping, my mom only lets me buy tan, white, and black bras. I have one pink one. But @ my dance class, the only way we get to accessorize is through our bra. Some happen slowly and some happen fast!  It's important for you to feel comfortable and enjoy wearing your bra.  You could get measured in the store to clear up any disagreements between you and your mom!

Hey chicky, don't fret over your small chest. You're soo young and you have lots of growing to do, so your bod will develop more. But to make your chest look larger, start wearing printed and ruffle tops. Layering more than one tank or cami works too. Your bra size is completley normal. Every girl's bod is different, so what's normal for you may not be normal for someone else and vice versa. Safety pinning your bra straps keeps them from showing. Target, Wal-Mart and K-Mart have cute cheap bras. No prob girly, I'm here to help no matter how many questions! Smile

MODMODMODMOD I try 2 b confident and relize im pretty and stuff but i cant! I can't even fit into most traing bras because the cups are 2 big!! Thats really pathetic for a 12 yr old. I just wanna be pretty like other grls but I'm not. And because of this i can't wear mopst clothes unless they have an Xsmall or XXsmall. And I'm way 2 skinny. Its disgusting how skinny i am. When I'm wearing a regular tee shirt u can see my ribs! And of course when ppl see me they just geuss that I'm anerxic or something. MODMODMOD I'm extremly flat-chested...my boobs haven't even started devoloping yet. I'm not even going thru puberty yet and i'm 12! I have one friend who has c-cups and shes 12 too! Most of my friends wear a or b cups and they all make fun of me. Most juniors clothes can't even fit me...and other ppls make fun of me. I want clothes that fit and peers who don't make fun of me.

 

Hey chicky, unfortunately we can't change what people say or do, but we can work on ourselves. Being flat chested is nothing to be ashamed of. There's so much more to a gal than just her chest. Personality, intelligence and talent anybody? You can't make your chest bigger, but you can make it look bigger. Try buying shirts that have ruffles going down the front or tops with prints and patterns, like polka dots. Forever21 and Wet Seal have some awesome ones for cheap.

Hey girl, the smallest size I know of is 30AA, but different brands run differently in sizes. I'd recommend going to the store and trying on different brands of bras. You'd be surpised at what you'll find!

My bra's have been herting so bad if I don't adjust them like every 15 min. It is like hitting my (not under your armpit but closer to your chest and shoulder) and its really bugging me! I think the straps are tightened all the way and stuff.

Make sure you're buying the right bra size. The numbers in your size refer to the width of your back, so it's super important that you have the right one or else you'll feel the discomfort you're describing. Also, loosen the straps! They're adjustable so you can make sure they're at a level that's most comfy for you.

Hey babe, it's nothing to be embarrassed about. Girls grow in that area which is totally normal so upgrading to a bigger bra just makes sense. Next time you're with your mom in a casual setting, like a car, hint that you need a new bra. Tell her yours is getting old and you'd like a new one. Well, the reason I asked it is because I take dance and my breasts...aren't too big but wat is weird is I want the smaller. Most of the girls in my class have like NOTHING!! I'm only 12. Yay! I figured out how to make my own tape measure!
1. find something that has inches on it like a ruler or metal tape mesure anything that tells you how long an inch is

2. get out some of that white chotch tape and stick it on to a flat surface

3.mark all the inches along the tape (if you have a ruler that is only 12 inches you move it down and keep goingbut dont mark down one on the tape put down 13 and keep going from there)

4. Once you get to a number of inches that is about 10 inches bigger than you around you peel the tape off of the surface

5. lay the tape on the ground on the non sticky side and you get another piece of tape that is just as long as your first one

6. now match the sticky side of tape to the other tapes sticky side all the way own but make sure it is straight

7. Now follow the way to mesure on this web site Laughing

Oh I can totally relate to that. except for the sexy body part. It started last year and since I have a bigger bust than a lot of the girls at my school that all most of the guys in my class cared about. So they would start talking about it to me and I would feel disgusted. And there was one kid who actually kept trying to hit me there. If I was u I would do anything to keep them away from me as in pushing them away when they grab u or like stomp on their feet when they even get close to you. I hope it works.

And btw a girl's bust istheir private area so yes it hurts rele badly so don't worry ur not alone. Plenty of my friends and I have accidently been hit there and we just laugh about it so yeah! I have trainers now that im in 5th grade i feel i should use them i feel fat I know it dosent tie inot the bra thing its just in fifth grade I hear they weigh you in front of ppl and I weigh 100! thnx for the advice i'mma see him tomorrow! and i'mma tell him! also i'm not that bold! but i'm working on it! i'm reading this book called'dateable' and it's really good a couple worte it together! the girl was writing half of it for the guys to let them in on how girl thinks and the guy wrote the girl half so the girls know what the guys are thinking and what to do and not to do! it's really helpful!

i like this guy(L) and he likes me too. but he tells his friends he likes me then he tells me he doesn't. then his friends are like no he's gonna ask you out and he has had 2 chances to do it and he hasn't taken any of them. also i try to talk to him but he is so shy it's like he's just staring at me and not listening.... it's so annoying it's like talking to a brick wall! and also if he does ask me out and i say yes i'm gonna want to talk to him! and i try to but like i said i get zero response!!!!! it gets me frustrated how do i break him out of his shell! i mean i talk to his bff more then him and L is the only reason we're friends.
