My wisdom teeth are coming in!

Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars that usually develop when you’re about 18—at which time, you will suddenly become all-knowing. Just kidding. These teeth serve no purpose, except to possibly cause serious pain and irritation.

Wisdom teeth can come in sideways, angled or downward, pushing other teeth out of alignment. “It’s difficult to brush these teeth because they’re so far back in the mouth,” says dentist Dr. Ramin Tabib of New York. “Because they are so hard to clean, tartar and plaque build-up, combined with food getting stuck underneath the gum can cause cavities, infection and inflammation.”

Dr. Tabib says every jaw is different, so when your wisdom teeth appear (and most people get ’em), your dentist can determine if your jaw is wide enough to accommodate the extra teeth. But you’ll definitely want them removed if you experience infection, pain or impaction, in which they are blocked completely or partially from breaking through the gum.

And if you’ve had braces, wisdom teeth can make straight teeth crooked. Best to get ’em out.

I'm 12, and I want a nose job. Like, ASAP. If you saw my nose, you would understand my sitch. I'm already doing the research to find the best surgeon and the price ranges and everything! The only prob is, my parents would never let me go for this. How can I convince them to let me get my nose done?

Babe, you are beautiful just the way you are! Plastic surgery usually isn't recommended for people under 18, because our bodies are still changing.  Your nose makes you unique, you are special for being different. Try to enjoy what you've been given, just think if you lost your sense of smell how dull the world would be!  For now, try and accept your nose and focus on the better things in life!

My wisdom teeth haven't come in yet. The dentist said they were coming in when I'm 17. But I remember when I was growing teeth all the way in the back of my jaw and it hurt while they were growing in. but it doesn't hurt anymore.

MOD The problem with my teeth is that they are really close together so food get stuck easily and I already KNOW I have a few cavities but when I went to the dentist, he said I didn't have any. He gave me toothpaste for sensitive teeth and even though it helped my sensitive teeth, it didn't get rid of the pain in my molars. so what's happenening?

my gums have been hurting/itching really bad around my molars recently. I brush my teeth and floss, so i hope its not an infection. What is it and i can i make it stop?

Hey babe,

You might be brushing or flossing too hard. You should also try a mouthwash like Listerine or something that will kill an infection, in case you have one.

hey, um i actually have 2 questions.
1. How do u know where to answer questions? like do u go thru pages and stuff that wants to be posted or something? haha just curious
2. Sometimes i cant tell what im feeling. Like especially if i listen to calm type music. Even if its happy music... Like i want to feel happy, but i have mixed emotions. It doesn't happen a lot, but is there something behind this? I dont have anything wrong in life, its just love songs/calm music brings out some emotions. Ya its kinda a weird question haha thx mod Smile

Hey girl! I am not sure. Your emotions can change easily, so thats normal.

I am dreading my wisdom teeth. I know people who have had them taken out and they said it was very painful and a terrible experience.

I'm 14 years old and I just had my wisdom teeth taken out 2 days ago. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. They put me to sleep so I didn't feel anything, and now I am taking pills for the pain. The worst part is that my cheeks swelled up and I have to go to school tomorrow with puffy cheeks. =(
