How can I make my school uniform less boring?

We know that school uniforms can be a drag, but here are a few tips to turn them from completely drab to totally fab. At least you know what you’re wearing every day…now it’s time to accessorize!

Depending on how strict your school is, leggings (patterned or plain), cute knee-highs or snazzy spandex to make you stand out from the crowd.

our school is so awfully strict!
no makeup, no nail polish, no earrings, no more jewelry then one bracelet OR one necklace, only brown black or navy shoes.
and our uniform is absolutely HIDEOUS
on gym day it's a white polo shirt tucked in to school gym shorts or sweats, and on regular school days a white polo tucked into a plaid skirt with knee socks and a pull-over navy sweater. I hate it and I'm SOOOOOOOO sick of it!
I can't really do anything pretty with my hair either - cause the air in school is so like dry and i naturally have really wavy hair - so no matter how much time i spend and how much hairspray i use, it always just goes back to being natural and it looks really ugly and messy. I can get away with some makeup but not a lot. I did get cute shoes but still, I feel soooo ugly during school. How can I make my hair and nails and makeup look better without getting caught or being too flashy?
PS - my hair is like about an inch or 2 passed my shoulders with layers and like Demi Lovato bangs, and it looks awful when its wavy. Please help i'm soo sick of it




Hey babe, unfortch there's not much you can do because of the dress code. You could get a manicure with a clear or light pink polish for your nails.

What I do is wear my hair in a different way and earring and jewlery that are cool. I also have a short skirt a tight polo and american eagle flats.

my school wears uniforms too we have white polo shirts and khaki pants shorts or skirts. we also have blue or red sweatshirts vests sweaters and fleece things. we HAVE to tuck in our shirts or we get detention

That completely sux for your really strict schools! I guess you probably can't wear arm socks. The only piece of advice I have for you is get a sweat band (or other tight fabric thing) and wear it under your jacket (if your school makes you wear one) so, even though no one can see it, you know you have something fun and unique on.

reasons why this didnt help at ALL:

1. we cant wear leggings at my school
2. can only wear either plain white or black shoes
3. whats the use for bags when our books are so light that we can just carry them?
4. we can wear glasses, but those are a little "out there"

my schools not that strict but Its my first time at private school so i dont realy know. One thing I have learned, having gone to public my entire life and just recently switching to private, is that private school girls are a whole lot meaner. There cliquey and vicious. Pluss at public school I was one of the richest kids there. Now im *definatly* not. Its weird because at public school I learned it was hard to be the kid with the big house and the right brands. I never once felt anything but envy for the other kids. But now its the other way around. I think im learning alot from it.

Hey girly! It depends on the school, some schools make you wear the uniform and whatever else you want when it comes to accessories, other schools' dress codes go for accessories too. --Sammi

Hey guys! Sup? I go to a private school and we have uniforms :-(. We have to wear plaid skirts/jumpers (jumpers are elemtentary only, thank gosh), tuck in our shirts, and on Wednesdays, we have to wear blazers and button down shirts :-(. I would LOVE to wear leggings under my skirt (plaid, ick, but we if we wear leggings, they have to be down to our ankles. I could wear jewelry, but no one else does. I do wear some awesome flats once in a while, but I'm the only one in my grade who does, so it's kind of awkward. As for headbands, I'll wear them once in a while, but they're not really my style. And I have glasses, so fake ones are out of the running. Does anyone have other tips to spice up my uniform?

On another note, my dad just accepted a new job, and we're going to have to move again (We just moved from Ohio exactly three years ago and now we're moving back). I'm not crazy about that, since I just made really good friends, and my crush likes me now. My dad said I could decorate my new room, but that's really the only plus. Does anyone have tips about how to stay in touch with old friends, and make new ones quickly? And how do I break the news to my BFFs (My mom doesn't want me telling people until the FOR SALE sign is up)?

i almost think it's cruel to have all the kids dressed in the same ugly outfit. they can't show their style or what they're really like inside. they're just another robot from that school.

im glad my school doesnt have uniforms but i still get yelled for wearing shirts tat dont have 2 inch straps and wearing too short shorts or too short skirts.

****MOD***** (& girls <3) Hey can anybody help me I have a serious fashion dilemma! So I'm really tall for my age (5 ft 10) and I'm pretty skinny but I have wide hips & a uh..."pronounced" behind if you get what I mean lol. (Not huge just pretty big). What type of pants, jeans, or shorts should I get (style, design, cut, color, etc.) so my butt & hips don't look that huge and it is well fitted on my legs (I have pretty long legs btw for my height). Ahhh GL you don't know a lot about uniforms. Anything not in the schools colors is forbidden so for me only golds and blues. And different colored shoe laces? IF the school has a uniform policy they will have teachers enforce the policy. My teachers send me to the office anytime we aren't wearing anything "uniform" appropriate. The only possible things on that list are the glasses and the watch. Good luck with convincing your teachers to do THAT chickies. Nothing is ever like TV.

i hate my school!!! our uniform is soo strict. no make-up(not even on pix day!), we're only allowed to wear leggings wen its cold and they have 2 b plain black or navy blue!!! we're not even allowed 2 carry bags with us from class 2 class(all my classes r on the same floor in the same hallway,except for one that is on the next floor,but still...)we had to wear dress shoes(yes that means ugly leather skecherS!but i got away with brown adidiasSmile)until this year. mow we get to wear gym shoes or shoes with backs and SOCKS-there goes the option of totally adorable flats.the only things i could wear freely are the shoelaces and headband!!!

I love these suggestions, but I'm not quite sure how they could work for a school uniform.
At my school, we're required to wear a plaid skirt, white knee socks, saddle shoes, a white blouse, and a navy v-neck sweater. So, regretably, the ideas y'all provided about socks and shoes won't work with many schools' uniforms.
I do, however, love the hair, glasses, and accessories ideas. I already wear thick black plastic frames by MiuMiu, and I get TONS of complements on them, from both guys and girls. And, girls are always rockin' fun hairbands and cool earings!

I know theres alot of conflict over this but wherever you go (public school or private), whatever you wear, people are going to judge you. its like a constant addiction for some people. not just in school either. so you just need to learn to be yourself and not care what other people think about you and then it won't even matter...AND WHATS WRONG WITH JC PENNIES OR MARSHALS!?!??!?!

some of those are great ideas! the thing is my school is so strict. but as far as uniforms go.. kinda cute. white, blue, or red shirt. plaid skirt/ blue shorts. but no dangling earrings, no bags, deff no leggings or colored socks!!so basically the only fashion thr is shoes, o well.

i havent gotten my period and i want to be totally prepared in case i do in school. so i have 4 pads, and some gray sweats. but i want to put this a bag but more like a pouch that i could put in my locker and i dont hav to worry bout it. wear could i get a pouch bag? lik i dont want a tote or a purse. but nothing to big? Hey girly! You don't even need a bag, you could just get a mini little wallet or wristlet from somewhere like Claire's where they aren't expensive. Even something like a soft pencil case would work, just something that isn't clear! --Sammi

Hey girly! Every girl is different, so it could be because you're getting your period or just because you're getting hungry and then you get a stomach cramp. Just watch out for it, but it isn't necessarily a definite sign that you will be getting it in the next few weeks. --Sammi

Heyy MOD I want something REALLY cute to wear for picture day this year! (It's my last year there and I go to a Catholic school) So I was thinking maybe something with my black leggings but I don't know what I could wear with them! We're not allowed to wear any jean material and If I wear like a dress with them the Dress has to come down to my knee I think and the sholder straps have to be like at least an inch or 2 wide so ya. My mom is sending me to a strict privite school and here is the dress code no jewlery except stud earings. White long sleved blouses. Black knee lengh skirts. White tights. Flat black shoes. No Make-up. If you have long hair it must be in two braids. I am going to hate it.

At my school the uniform is a polo shirt and trousers. You aren't allowed to wear colorful socks or shoes or jumpers over the top of the uniform or you will be sent home or you will be told to take the jumpers off or necklaces. You also aren't allowed to wear earing incase ther's a fight and they get ripped out and basically no makeup only foundation and mascara!I still do though all my friends do we wear bright socks loads of rings and bracelets and necklaces and earings and wear bright makeup and jumpers and the teachers just tell you to take them off but once they've gone we just put them back on again LOL.
