Sadly, alcoholism is an enormous problem in the United States. More than half of all adults have a family history of alcoholism. And one out of three kids lives with a parent who is alcohol- or drug-dependent. Aside from risks such as blacking out or being injured from falls, research shows alcoholism increases chances of heart disease, liver cirrhosis, depression, brain damage, cancer, stroke and suicide. Nearly half of all fatal car accidents are alcohol-related. Alcoholism usually cannot be controlled by willpower alone. There is no known cure, but it can be treated. Treatment often consists of detoxification, prescription medications and counseling. Regular attendance to Alcoholics Anonymous (alcoholics-anonymous.org) meetings can be highly successful.

My parents have drinks in the fridge since six year ago that they never touch, and usually, just eventually throw out. They are awesome role models. They teach me to fight my own battles, to study hard, and to spend your precious time doing something other than trouble!

We now abuse alcohol worse than teen boys who are the same age as we are. That means we will have more problems with things like school and being a good friend to someone. I know with my friends some of them brag about drinking and it drives me crazy. 1 in 4 of us teens have a sexually transmitted disease, which is worse than even boys have and that means we are doing things a lot of them arent and without using protection. And I think drinking might be one of the reasons. That is why I dont drink and why I wouldnt do it around boys because a lot of time you might end up doing something stupid.

I'm reading a book called Runner and the main character, Chance, his dad's an alcoholic, but he still loves his dad. It's a good book. ~lasagna~

The best things in life arn't things. My dDd is an alchoholic and it is hard living with that. When your a alchoholic you can't even get most jobs because they make you take a drug test or see you acting that way on the job. You don't benefit from drinking alot. You can't walk right, talk right, or think right. And that is very sad.
