So, like a lot of people, I was totally unaware of the Twilight saga until it became this crazy phenomenon a few months ago. In truth, the thing that caught my eye was an MTV special about the
Twilight movie, starring one of my Harry Potter faves, hottie Robert Pattinson. And I instantly made it my mission to get my hands on these books as soon as humanly possible. Much to my disappointment, I was number 327 on the library waiting list for the first one, so I hopped on amazon.com and ordered the entire series. The moment the package arrived at my house, I was locked in my room, ignoring texts from my friends, and was barely able to put the book down long enough to catch some shuteye.
After racing through the first three books, the thought of waiting over two weeks for the final one, Breaking Dawn, was unbearable! But it was totally worth it. I tried to slow down my fast-paced reading so I wouldn't miss any little detail and when I finished the book, I couldn't wait to see what you girls had to say about it and if you loved it as much as the first three. So, here it goes.
Discussion time...
1. Was the wedding scene what you expected or would you change anything?
GL Callie: I thought the wedding scene was beautiful and I was so happy that Bella finally admitted that she was happy about getting married and let herself have a great time at the reception. Mostly, I wish Alice could plan my wedding for me. It really sounded like a fairy tale. Of course, leave it to Jacob to ruin the party by getting all angry and protective. I would have kept almost everything the same, except I wish we got a more complete description of her dress. Maybe Stephenie Meyer wanted us to create our own vision of a 1918 Bella?
2. Why do you think Bella was able to control her emotions and thirst so well as a newborn vampire?
GL Callie: This is a tough question, but I remember Edward saying that falling in love with Bella completely altered his state of mind, and I think that since Bella had that change occur in her while she was still a human, she was able to hold onto it once she became a vampire. She already found her soulmate and with everything they had been through together, I think her love for him is more powerful than all the other things she expected to experience as a newborn.
3. What was your reaction when you found out that Jacob had imprinted on Renesmee?
GL Callie: To be completely honest, I was totally freaked out. In the two middle books, Jacob was so in love with Bella before her baby was a part of the picture. So for him to imprint on Bella's daughter seems like a betrayal of her trust in him. I know he can't help it, but he made it way worse when he told Bella that he could share Renesmee, like he has more of a claim on her than her own mother does.
4. Which vampires' powers do you find the most interesting? If you could have one of their powers, which would you choose?
GL Callie: I loved all the new vampires that were introduced but I think my favorite was Ben because he was so independent and very moral. Even though Amun created him, Ben wouldn't allow himself to be controlled by him or told that he wasn't allowed to stay with the Cullen's and be a witness. Ben's was my favorite power and I'm really interested in what made Amun think he would have such an extraordinary power before he made him a vampire. Like Bella's ability to keep her mind private when she was human, what was Ben's "power" as a human that became concentrated as a vampire into being able to control the elements? So interesting...
5. If Stephenie Meyer were to write books from another character's perspective, whose would you want it to be (besides Midnight Sun from Edward's perspective)?
GL Callie: I would love, love, love to read a book from Renesmee and Jacob's perspectives, but years into the future. I want to hear if Nahuel would actually be competition for Jacob and if Renesmee gets a chance to choose who she's going to spend the rest of her life with. I also would like to hear more background story on the couples, like a collection of all the love stories including Carlisle and Esme, Alice and Jasper, and Emmett and Rosalie.
