My period comes out clumpy. Ew.

 
I get brown clumps in my pad when I get my period, and they freak me out! What are they, and does it mean something’s wrong?

There’s nothing like some brown clumps to remind you that periods are kinda, well, icky! But fortunately, those brown clumps are also perfectly healthy. Phew!
 
Basically, when a girl’s menstrual flow is fast, it’s red. But when it slows down, it becomes brown due to exposure to the air. Plus, periods are all about your uterus cleaning itself out, so you’re also shedding the lining of your uterus. That means clumps and clots are not only OK, they’re expected.

Hey girlie,

Yep, it could be the beginning of your period. Or it could just be discharge and your period will come later.  The best thing to do is stay prepared with a pad/tampon in your purse and wait to see what happens next.

MODMODMOD! i kno this article says that the brown is normal but i got it at the end of the month and it isnt heavy but it stains faintly like blood. then i got it the next month and then i skipped like 4 months and i got it briefly and now 3 months later approximately i hav it again! i hav read up and gotten confused answers---is this my period or is my body getting ready to hav my period? if it is my period is that normal to hav no blood just the brown? thanx sooooooo much Smile




Hey girl, the brown can be dried blood which is normal. I'd say it's spotting. Have pads ready and know your real period may be coming super soon.

Hmm...if the brown stuff is clumpy, I would see a doc just to be on the safe side.  It's prob a problem that can easily be fixed with something he prescribes.

Toxic Shock Syndrome. Its when you leave a tampon in for a really long time and it causes toxins to get into your system and it can kill you. Just change your tampon regularly and you'll be fine. xoxo kerra

Hey girl, you should keep pads on you at all times. As for your period, you can't control when it starts. Just know you're fine. When it comes, it comes.

You might be regular right now, but you might become more irregular later. If this is normal for you, it might just stay that way. You don't HAVE to be irregular.

Hey girl, every girls body is different, so although you have the symptoms of an incoming period, you can't put a date on when you will get it. Discharge is completely normal for girls though, so don;t worry about that unless it is a different color, texture, or smell.

There is just ONE thing I dont understand about periods: Why is the first one so lite and the rest hevy? The first time I got my period, it was so light you couldn't even see it. The second time, I was at my grandma's house and I bent over to pick something up and I could feal something wet and sticky EXPLODE into my panties. I went to the bathroom to see what it was and it looked like a badlefeild when all the people had been killed. I was SOOO scared! Why does that happen?

Hey girl!  I'm not sure what the dots are, but it sounds like you are just having dischare.  Usually that means that you are starting to develop and you'll get your period within a few months.  No worries! ~Kristen

I have been on only one time before but like...i would prefere to use tampons but im only 12 so im not sure if im to young :s my mum said i shoudl wait till im 14 but im almost 13 and i think i would be more comfortable with using tampons?? My period always is brown. It's never red, but BROWN. It's strange.
And also, I only bleed like 1 TIME my whole cycle. I bleed once, then I put in a pad and I never bleed again! Until I'm caught off guard the next time. It sucks. I hate periods!!!Frown

ok, no prob, i'll explain my problem again....
so pretty much everyday, i get this stick-ish, clear stuff in my underwear! its really annoying. this has come up in past GL articles, like this months and way back like 2 years ago.....
it happens both in and between periods and it doesnt smell or anything but its irritating!
