Hey missy, you could make posters that advertise your babysitting buisness. Post them in your neighborhood, school, local mall, church and drugstore. As long as you spread the word that you babysit to different places, you'll start getting some calls. Smile

I personally suggest to everyone about to start their Babysitting Business needs a few essentials to get threw the first few jobs.
- Training. Thought its not "needed" it looks great to parents, who will relax a little more with their kids in your hands. Along with you will relax too knowing you can handle most emergencies.
- A Private Line. You don't need a private ground line, but I would suggest you use your cell phone. It can get crazy when calls get all mixed up.
- Organization. Print off at least 5 of the Information Sheets above (or you can make your own with all the same details or more) and get a few 10 cent folders to organize your things in. One folder for: Information (the sheets above). Another for: Babysitting Log (see bellow). And another one for: Payment Log (see bellow)
-Babysitting Log. I know it sounds silly, but it's VERY important to keep a Log of your babysitting jobs. Just tittle it with the family's last name, date, hours, and kids. Ex: Johnson, 1/2/10, 4pm-6pm, Bailey. And then give a brief summary (yes the good AND the bad) of the entire job. That way next time you babysit for them, you can go back and see if you really want to take on that job.
-Payment Log. This is to keep track of all money you earn. It's really simple. Alot like the Babysitting Log. You Put the date at the top of the paper, and underneath write the last name, hours, and money earned. Ex: 1/2/10 Johnson, 2 hours, 14$. Then you can take your hard earned cash and tuck it away in your wallet. And you'll always have doccumentation of how much you earned.

MOD MOD MOD!
So if you are an intern at GL what are the responsibilities? and do you have to become an intern to become a MOD?

Hey girl, interns do anything and everything.  When I was an intern I wrote copy and I helped come up with stories and I got to sit in on celeb interviews. It was GREAT! To become an intern you have to live in Baltimore and apply for it Smile xo JANA

Hey! To start babysitting, ask your mom or dad to ask their co-workers if they could use a sitter. Start out by watching 5 - 8 year olds, that don't require a lot of attention but are so fun to play with! Bring slong movies and snacks for them to watch, and make sure you aren't too strict. Call ahead for information on family pets or allergies, and who's getting you home. It's easier than you might think. Smile

And P.S. If you are not comfortable sitting in a certain situation (newborn baby, vicious dog, bad neighborhood), let the parents know! They can help you find an alternative (like having the kids come over to your house)! Don't be afraid to speak up!

For more babysitting advice, comment on my profile! I'll get back to you in about 2 days. Thanks!

I live in a small neighborhood, with about 3-4 younger kids and i've tried almost everything to get a job (flyers, small talk, asking my rents to bring it up, ext.) and when i was outside talking with my friends, my age who had just moved to my neighborhood some of the people i have been asking to babysit for came out a yelled "Hey, i got your babysitting flyer and i might take you up on the offer" they were talking to my new friends who had just moved here. i just don't understand what i did wrong?

Hmm i dont know what you could have done wrong. Maybe try to ask your friend about her babysitting of your neighbors kids, and if they ask her to babysit and she cant, you should be the first to offer to do ti for them. Once you get a few jobs, families will come back to you. Just be a proactive as possible. Good luck! xoxo kerra

MOD MOD MOD! heyy i have a few quick questions. im 12, live in Baltimore ((like GL ;D)) and im really good with kids and like anyone, could use the extra money. do i need a license of some sort to babysit? is it legal for a twleve year old to babysit? i babysit my little brother and sister all the time, but my parents dont pay me becuz i never ask and my money is kinda their money. anywayyz, there's a bunch of kids in my neighborhood i could probably sit, but one of my neighbors babysits anyone for free anytime, so idk why i'd even try! my friend also wanted to try babysitting with me--how do we get started? THANX SOOO MUCH!!! SRRY THIS IS SO LONG! <3BEASTIEZ

Hey girl! You can look into taking a babysitting class or a cpr class. Then offering to sit for a few houses around your neighborhood and letting them know you're certified. They should automatically toss you a few bucks for looking after their little ones!

There are these 2 adorable girls that live up the street from me and always come to my house to c if i can play.. I love to watch them while they play out front, but whenever they ask their parents if i can babysit they always say "no." what should i do? my mom has been looking into first aid clases and cpr classes because whenever some one gets hurt I always panic and dont know what to do... any tips?

Hey girl! I say the classes are a really great idea! The parents may feel a little better about leaving their daughters home with you, then! Take them and see!

Heyy I'm 12 and I have my babysitting certificate from the red cross, how much should I charge per hour??
thanks!
-lizzy<3

Hey girl! When I used to babysit I used to leave it up to the parents. Generally they give you a pretty decent amount of money. I never charged any money and always got more than I expected.

MOD!
I live in CO and I was wondering if I needed a license to babysit? Thanks in advance!

Hey girl, you def don't, but you can get certified from a babysitting course. While not required, it def helps you look more employable for your neighbors.

While babysitting my younger cousins, I was surfing the Web when I came across a site that was still on the screen from someone else using it. The site was called AcceptEdge and was really cool. It helps narrow your search of colleges in the US and tells you which ones you would be likely to get into to. I think it was up there b/c of their older sister, but since I am 15 and about to start thinking about colleges, I thought it was really neat. It is definitely something that I will use in my future college search. You guys should check it out too!

Hey girl, why not try putting flyers up on a community bulletin board or around your neighborhood? You never know who might need a little help nearby and now you're certified.

MOD!! I Love Little Kids, I love to Babysit, but I'm short. and because of that parents don't think I am mature enough!! What should I do??

Hey girl!  For starters, try sitting for people you know.  Relatives, neighbors, fam friends who know how mature you are will be fine with letting your babysit.  Once you have a li'l experience under your belt, then you can go after other fams.  You can let parents know that you have tons of experience, and show 'em you're mature by arriving a little early, checking with them to make sure you've got everything you need, and just being polite.  Good luck!! Hi! I'm 11 (and 1/2, LOL), and I think (I know this sounds rude but I'm just being honest) I'm pretty mature for my age. I was planning on starting w/ mother's helping, but my neighbor called and asked if I could babysit their two kids (1-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy) for two hours... tomorrow. I'm trying to get as much info as possible b4 my job. I feel comfortable because they live just across the street and my parents will be home, and because it's from 9:30-11:30 AM so it'll still be light out, but I'm not quite sure about things such as what to charge. I was planning on 14 dollars TOTAL because they are young children, but now I'm rethinking it and I may charge 12 dollars. What would you do? Thank you so much!
CassieAnn

Hey babe,

I think 14 dollars is a fair price to say if they ask you.

MOD!!!
i got my first gig on friday (can't wait!!!) im perfectly comfortable with kids but i need a few tips......
1) what should i charge???? im gonna be there for a full 6 hours (7 pm - 1 am)but he'll probably be asleep for like 3-4 of those hours!
2) what do i do to keep him occupied??? hes like 4 or 5 years old.
3) what should i keep with me at all times just in case something happens?
4) what do i do when hes asleep that would be appropriate for a babysitter???

Hey girl! You could charge minimum wage or a little higher..whatever your comfortable with. You can usually watch tv or do homework when he is asleep. You want to keep a phone with you just in case of an emergency

I can't tell if this guy likes me or not. He doesn't flirt, really, or get flustered when he's around me, but I catch him looking at me sometimes, and when I talk to him, he ALWAYS makes me laugh UNCONTROLLABLY. He also looks me in the eye when I talk to him. Does he like me??

Hey babe,

He clearly likes you at least as a friend if he's making you laugh and really paying attention to you. You might just not recognize his way of flirting. Get to know him better and you'll find out for sure!
