When will I get my period? I need to know!

 
Most girls get their first period around 11 or 12. However, some girls get their period as early as 9, and some as late as 16. The truth is, every girl is different. But we can assure you that, sooner or later, you will almost definitely get it.

Q: Once I get it, how will I know when it’s coming next?

A: For the most part, girls get their periods every 28 days or so. While some can predict the exact day of their next period, other girls have irregular cycles and may be off by a week or more. You may be even more irregular when you first start getting your period, skipping a whole month or two. This is perfectly normal—nothing to panic over. Says Jerry, 12, “When you first start getting it, you can never predict when it might strike. I once got mine twice in one month.”

Q: I’m terrified I will be caught totally off guard. What can I do?

A: This is the extreme fear for girls. Says Kristi, 10, “I always hear about girls going to dances in white dresses and walking out with a big red spot!” First of all, of the hundreds of letters we received, only three girls said they were busted in public with a surprise stain.
   
But, OK, there’s certainly a fair chance you’ll be surprised at least one prepped. Keep a few pads in your locker and a sweater you can wrap around your waist, just in case. Our readers also say they keep spares for friends, which is a smart (and generous) idea.

im 12 turn 13 nov. 14, 97 i have had hair down there for a while underarm hair there since the beginning of fifth grade and some pimples on my rehead! but no discharge.... when do u think i will start? and how long after u get discharge will u start?

MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!!!!! I have all the signs of my period coming- breasts for 1 and a half years, discharge for 8 months, hair everywhere, and I'm 12. My mom got hers when she was 12. My discharge used to be sticky when i had an infection. But now its just all liquid, like really thin liquid. as thin as water. Is this normal?? Is this a sign?? When will i get my period??




Hey girl, everything that's going on is normal for a girl your age. I honestly cannot tell you when your period will come, except that you will get it sooner or later. Just be patient, you're on the right track and it will happen eventually. Good luck!

MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!!!!!!! I am 12 years old, and have never had my period. Ive got allllllll the signs- breasts for 1 1/2 years, pubic hair for 1 year, discharge for 8 months, armpit hair for 10 months. My mom got hers when she was 12. Now I have a couple questions: Is it abnormal that i've had discharge for 8 months, and STILL dont have my period? When i went to the doctor for an infection he said that 8 months was quite a long time. And, when does it sound like i'll get it?

 

Hey girl, I know it can be frustrating to wait for your period.  Unfortunately, I really don't know when you will get it!  Discharge usually comes 6 months to a year before your period.  As long as you are taking care of your bod and checking in with your doc like you are, it should get here when the time is right - you just have to wait!

MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!!!!!! Why isn't the tampon working??? there's that big piece of skin/tissue in the way. Every time I try to put it in, i can't get around that piece. It hurts too. What is this piece and why is it hurting???

Oh i didn't try to tackle it by myself. she's helped me but we can't figure it out. It will solve it because my mom specifically looked up my type of infection and that was a remedy. Do you know what that big piece of skin/tissue is??? And why I can't get around it??? And why it hurts???
