Crazy Cravings!

 

Whenever it’s that time of month I get my period I always crave unhealthy foods. For example, I will crave candy, fast food and chocolate which totally wreck my eating healthy plan. I have tried dried fruit instead of candy, and nuts instead of potato chips, but it doesn't work.


Sometimes it gets hard to concentrate in school or at home while feeling these cravings. Also, if I do have fast food or something I have cramps and don't want to work out extra. Please help! Smile

Hey girl,

I can totally relate to your situation here. Cravings can be such a pain especially when you’re already dealing with all those cramps! But, don't sweat it! There are so many ways that you can totally deal with all those temptations and enjoy yourself.


First off, whenever you’re craving chocolate, why not find something that’s healthy with a li'l  bit of chocolate in it? For example, try chocolate flavored yogurt (don’t go near the pudding though!). If you look in your local supermarket, you'll see all different kinds of yogurts that are low-fat and low-sugar (usually called the “light” kind). It's healthy, satisfies  your sweet tooth and is a great alternative to a candy bar.


Bonus about this? Research shows that cacao, the main ingredient for all those yummy chocolaty snacks, is actually good for you as an antioxidant. The only catch is to find snacks with high cacao percentages and low sugar.


Let's talk about the fast food issue. It's def a tempting choice for a meal because it’s created to be, well, delicious! Whenever you’re craving a big fat burger, don’t head to the nearest drive thru! Go home and make your own healthy burger instead. When you make your own food, you control the amount of sauce and saltiness that most restaurants use excessively. You also have the power to put more nutritious ingredients like fresh veggies in your burger.


You may think that juicy patty isn’t good for you but meat actually contains lots of iron that you lose from letting out blood during your period. When you create you own meal you’re avoiding real fast food...for something healthier with the same great taste!


Lastly, when you are crazy for candy, you’re probably craving sugar. The easiest way to solve this problem? GUM! It’s known that chewing gum helps you forget about your hunger (or unhealthy cravings in this case) and with all those different kinds of flavors it shouldn’t be a problem to fight off temptations.


Basically, the key to resisting from cravings is to find substitutes that are better for your body and that can satisfy your needs. I know where you are coming from. When I am in the mood for something salty, sweet, juicy, or sour. I eat some pinapple for me it cures all cravings. and It is healthy to. Give it a shot. But remember it doesnt't work for everyone

It is totally normal!I have those too!what I do is instead of eating lots of sweets,I eat good things!and if that does not do the trick,drink some milk.

Hey girl,

Your best bet is an overnight pad. Every brand makes one. They're longer and wider so they catch leaks before they happen. Also, see if you Aunt has an old towel to prevent you from leaking on the sheets. Hope this helps!

you should be active when you get you period girl. i've had these cravings too and its not too pretty when you just eat and eat. like GL said, get something they suggested and go for a walk or run. and if you dont feel comfortable leaving home just in case you get some more major bleeding, just walk around your house. it'll banish the cramps! i've done it!

I have had that experience before..the best thing to do is to chew gum so u want be tempted to eat the unhealthy snacks u r craving! Hope this helps!

Hey! I need advice from anyone who has had their period or can help me! I really wanna know if I might get mine soon.
K so
-i have had breasts for nearly 2 years (since like summer 2007)
-I have recently gained a lot of weight since about April
-I have had discharge for a long time but it has increased since about April too
-My mom got hers when she was 12
-I have been getting minor cramps in my tummy lately
-I started shaving cuz i have darker hair under my arms and on my legs
-I have had pubic hairs for like 2 1/2 years
Please help! i don't know if i will gto it soon or not

If you're craving something, I say just eat it! It's not a big deal. I mean, if you're sitting down and eating, like, a whole bag of chips, THEN you should cut back, but especially during my period, I just give in to my cravings and I've stayed average weight.

I don't eat alot at school and my friend is all worried that I am anorexic but i just don't feel like eating. She now is making me eat or telling the nurse I am bulemic which im not but I know she wants me to be healthy, I am jut no that hungry. Also today a guy that sits at my table made a comment about my weight about how im anorexic and it got me really upset. My usual meal is a water and a granola bar and smartfood,

 

 

YOu may not be anorexic but what you are eating doesn't sound filling. Tell your friends that you do not appreciate this and tell your mom to go see a doctor about this. You may not be bulimic or anorexic but you could have some sort of eating issue u are not aware of.

dang, im lucky! i never crave sweets when im on my period.. i eat sooo healthy when im on it, so that keeps my weight pretty balanced.. im 5'3 and i weigh 110 and i work out every other day soo.. lol i guess thats y.. oh yea i just rememebered i crave peaches when im on my period.. haha its weird, but i eat them like crazy when im on my period.. im eating one right now and im on my period lool

Hey babes,  Vary your workouts.  For cardio go swimming, play sports, walk, run and also incorporate yoga and pilaties for toning.  Try working out with friends as well.  XO Lori

I sometimes have pain like that too. If you ask your mom or dad, they can probably give you a pain reliever (Advil, Motrin, etc.) and that helps me a LOT, so it might help you too. But always ask before you take a medication! And if you can, talk to a school nurse about it.

my joints in my arms and knees keep poping, for no reason, and it hurts really bad. once it pops, it like stays in place and it hurts to move it back. not only are my joints poping, but for the past week, every once in a while (no more than 5 times each day) i will feel a sharp pain in either my knees, shoulders, or my elbows, and today, my jaw hurt so bad, i didn't really want to eat. i can't go to the doctor's because my family's health insurence lets each one of us have one visit per year, and my parents probably wouldn't listen to me if i told them about the pain. am i just imagining the pain or what?




Hey girl! It sounds like what you're experiencing is growing pains. You're body is growing and developing and sometimes that can cause pain in your joints.

yeah so i have glasses but im going to try contacts for the second time
well i just recently noticed that i have these weird things that are kinda like dark bags under my eyes. im sure theyll go away.
but im really self conscious about them.
what should i do about them in the mean time?
















Hey Girl, Just stick some concealer on there for now. Ya know, it happens to the best of us from time to time. I switch from glasses to contacts a lot and sometimes straining my eyes makes those lil bags so keep that in mind. Putting an ice cube on the area for a few mns should tighten it up temporarily, too. xo Annemarie

It's hard to tell you what to do without knowing what type of hair you have, what your uniform looks like, and what your school allows. A lot of skaters go for short hair cuts with lots of layers. Even long hair goes well with layers. You can also look into having side swept hairstyles.

MOD MOD MOD MOD Does concealer or foundation clog your pores? If so, are there any types to not clog your pores? I've heard acne foundation is good, it clears acne and covers it up, I've also heard that the mineral kind is good too! And what about concealer? Without knowing what your skin type is, it's hard to tell you what's better for your skin. Any kind of make-up, foundation, or concealer can affect your pores but with the right cleansing, they can be cleaned.

What you want to do is to research some places in your community. There might not be anywhere close by, but if you ask around, there are always public places where you can learn or simply use as a place for gymnastics.

One thing you can do is to constantly remind yourself of the consequences of going over board on the food. In other words, you have to be determined and have strong will power because no one can control this for you.

so i used 2 b really good at gymnastics and i was really in2 it. but abbout 3 or 4 years ago my mom asked me 2 quit (she gets mad at me if i dont do things HER way) so i did. and now im allmost done with 7th grade and i really miss. i have tried to talk 2 her about going back 2 the old place where i was but she says that there are no non-competive class for 13 year olds. for my birthday i was gonna ask for 1 or 2 private lessons so i could get my tumbling down and i cood rejoin at my age group. wat shood i do bc i REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY miss gynastics. plzzzzzzzzzz answer

You could ask for a few private lessons, but I don't know if you could expect your parents to pay for competitive gymnastics after the private lessons.  -lauren

Mod! I got picked as the most friendliest superlative in my school. And for some reason me and about 8 other kids have to give a speech about why we're thankful for being picked as that. I'm really nervous in front of crowds so I don't know how to do that. What should I do?

Theyres is a type of birth control called Seasonique... you only get 4 periods a year. Ask your mom! My mom said yes, when I want to start using it. (My periods dont bug me much)
