I just got my braces off and my teeth are straight, but they’re yellow! Will anything help whiten my teeth?

Bummer. But wait—it’s probably not as bad as you think, and there are ways to turn those pearlies white. William Hull, DDS, says bleaching brightens teeth that are discolored, stained or darkened. The chemical solution is an oxidizing agent that is painted onto the teeth, and a special light activates the agent.

There are two types of bleaching. Chair side bleaching is done at the dentist’s office in a few half-hour visits. With Nightguard bleaching, a mouth guard is made for the patient to wear at night with pre-measured amounts of bleaching gel. The American Dental Association confirms that bleaching is safe but recommends a dentist supervises the treatment.

I agree with the others, try the Whitening Strips! They are kind of expensive (the smallest box of Colgate Whitening Strips is about $20!) but they'll last you almost three weeks! Just remember that teeth whitening can make your gums sensitive, so switch your toothpaste, as well! (I recommend Colgate Sensitive!)

 Hey girlie, you can try brushing your teeth baking soda or buying teeth whitening tooth brush and mouth wash.

Hey babe, I use whitening toothpaste and it really does make a big difference. Other than that I'm not sure but you can always check with your dentist!

My teeth are very yellow, i tried one of those @ home whitening kits but it made my teeth SUPER sensitive, so i tried white strips and that made my teeth even more sensitive, i herd brushing with baking soda instead of toothpaste whitens but will it hurt? and if it doesn't whats the best way to do it?

 

hmm, i've never heard of the baking soda trick--but there are some whitening toothpastes that have baking soda in them! and also there are whitening toothpastes made for sensitive teeth--this might be a great alternative to those harsh kits and strips for you. ask your dentist for more suggestions!

i have braces too. i just got them on in January this year. they actually don't hurt as bad as i thought they would. i'm def. worried about having stains and yelllowed teeth but i guess i have to wait and see... the thing is i have white satins on my front teeth that goes about half-way up the tooth because i used to eat toothpaste when i was little. lol. my dentist and orthodontist said they can't be removed because they are on a certain layer of my teeth ( or something like that) so it's impossible to remove them. :'[. i can't wait until my braces are off!

I'm in seventh grade, but I still haven't had braces even though I need them REALLLY badly. The reason I don't have them is because I still need to lose four teeth. I'm really embarassed to smile with my mouth open, because it looks terrible. Is there any way to make my teeth come out faster? : (

Hey you know instead of going to the dentist/ortho and paying to get it done, there is a much simpler solution:
Try mixing one tbsp salt with 2 tbsp of baking aoda. Brush the mixture on your teeth and voila!! You will be surprised at how much whiter your teeth are. It may take a few times to get them as white as you want, so do it once a day until they you are happy with how they look. Use this trick whenever you want your teeth to look a little whiter and shine a little brighter!! Smile

Hey Girlie, I totally understand your fear! I just got eight cavities filled (ugh!) so you've asked the right person. The main thing I wanna tell you is that if you have the option to spread it over two or three visits- DO IT! Your face is going to be SO numb after a few cavities and you are going to be so tired that you won't be able to sleep through all six. Plus, bring a book or something to occupy yourself. The shot takes awhile to set in, but once its in, you'll be fine. Good luck! xo Annemarie

Hey girl,

Talk to your mom calmly and tell her why you want to wear contacts. Maybe it will be easier to play sports, or maybe you've been feelin' less confident because of your glasses. If she still says no, maybe you guys can go out and get a cute new pair of frames together--if you have to wear 'em, why not rock 'em?

I use deodorant (Teen Spirit Stick) and I still sweat a lot! I try not to put a ton on, but I try not to have too little, as well, and it doesn't work! I don't have giant pit stains, but there's a lot of sweat. I don't know what to do! Plus, I'm not comfortable with talking to my mom about things like this. How do I stop the problem?

Hey chickas,
I would definately try the dentist bleeching before whitening strips. It will work more quickly, and you will for SURE get your money's worth. That is just my opinion thought. And Also to REBECKAGRL21, I would try stronger deoderent. I would also keep it in your locker or back pack at school. I used to have this problem, but as long as I shower everyday and keep deoderent with me at school to have, i'm good. Hope this works.

MOD at school or anywhere i start to sweat, like really badly. when i am alone in the bathroom, i can see pit stains, even though i wear deodorant (secret brand), so i am always wearing sweatshirts because i am embarrased.

Hey babes, Try Dove or another deoderant that is a bit stronger.  Sometimes this happens when you go through puberty.  The sweatshirts might cover it up but it'll just make you sweat more.  If you're still having issues even after changing deoderant than speak with a doc about it.  XO Lori
