I have my period, but Im still flat-chested!

 
Hey, what do you have against being flat? Someone in your family likely has genetically passed down her small chest—maybe your mom, dad’s mom or great aunt. So even though you’re going through puberty (getting your period is a sure sign that things are moving along), your boobs probably just aren’t built to burst out of your tank tops.

There’s till hope, of course. Your breasts should continue developing until you’re at least 18, says Dr. Adelaide Nardone, gynecologist and medical advisor to the Vagisil Women’s Health Center. You might also see an increase in chest size if you gain weight. For now, be patient. No pill or exercise will do the trick. Besides, you’re beautiful as is—think Kate Hudson! If you still feel self-conscious about your grapes not looking like melons, try a padded bra.

Hey girly, brown spots are a sign of spotting, and it usually means that your period may be on its way. However, when it will come, and how long it will take is unpredictable.

Hey girlie, everyone's different so that could be perfectly normal. If you go into a store like Victoria's Secret they can measure you for free so that you get the right fit. Also keep in mind that if it fits right, it should fit comfortably hooked on the last notch (the tightest one).

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD I'm a 34A and I'm 11, and I'm 68 lbs. I know, I'm only like 4 foot 7. I am very moody, get backaches sometimes, and every other thing you get before your period. but i don't know if i have discharge, i wear like all light pink to white colored underwear, so i can't tell if i have discharge. but i have 1 purpleish blue colored underwear and it's like little bit of water is in there. is it discharge, because i've found that for 13 months now, so is it discharge, and if it is, when will i get my period, according to all of the things in my qeustion??? Hey, I really can't tell you when you'll get your period except that you will get it eventually. What you're finding is probably discharge, which dries clear or whitish on your underwear. Everything sounds normal, so just be patient for your period. Good luck!

i had my period already but my boobs have stayed the same size, im a 34A but when i have it they seem bigger and dnt fit in my bra, also does wearing a bra like 24/7 and only like changing it in the moring, cause them to be like saggy or is it like bad for them, cuz my friends say itll make them sag if i keep wereing bras all the time and their not gonna grow, is it true? -thnxx <3

 

Hey girlie,

Nope, wearing a bra all day won't do anything to change your boobs.  It's nice to give yourself a breather though - do you have to wear it while you sleep?  It isn't bad for you, but it's easier to relax without one!  But even though you've had your period/gone through puberty, that doesn't mean your boobs will automatically be bigger.  Everyone's puberty stage is different and yours were just naturally that size at the end of it.  They might grow as you get older and they might not - it's up to your bod!

AAAAAA!!! I think I just got my period becuase this morning I woke up and went to the bathroom. I wiped and there was A LOOOT of blood, so I put on a pad and then went to the bathroom again. NO BLOOD ON TH PAD!!!! So I took it off and had to go again like an hour later and then there was a blood stain in my underwear!! But I don't have cramps or headaches or anything!! Is this normal?!?! Hey girl, your bod's growing at its own pace so just give it some time. They'll be right soon, just wear the appropriate underwire (a training bra, for ex.) for now.

Hey chica, since you're a little shy about talking to her face to face, write a letter. If you write her a letter, it will be easier to approach her. So put the letter on her desk, bed or wherever, wait till after she's read it and then talk to her. But you don't have to be nervous to talk to her, she's a woman and she's gone through this before so she'll be able to offer lots of advice. (a text could work too) Smile

Chest size varies totally from person to person. I had a bit of boob before my period, and grew quite a bit a few months just before and a little after, but i have some friends who have their period and are almost totally flat chested, and wear a bra just so its no akward in the change room. both are normal, and its really hard to compare yourselves to your mothers for 2 reasons. 1 she is a grown woman while you are still young and develpoing, and 2 many women's breats increase slightly in size while and after having a baby. I feel like I am behind some of my friends and usually it doesnt both me but some of my friends are sprouting. One of my friends claims since she has been on birth control her boobs have gotten to be the size she wanted. I am not sure if birth control does that for everyone but it seemed to for her.

And since I want to wear a nice dress for a few Christmas parties I was hoping that I could fill it out but now it seems like I may have to wear something else.

Lots of girls don't start developing until later. I know you feel self-conscious about it, but you will grow soon! Until you do, the trick is to dress in flattering tops and dresses. A sweatheart neckline is flattering on smaller figures. The best thing to do is to try on lots of different styles and see which is the most flatttering!

Hey girl, first of all, you can't compare yourself to your mom and aunt. It's not comparable. As for your weight, if you're underweight, I suggest that you see a doctor because although it might not be necessarily bad, but it's not good for you either. As you get your period... you enter another phase of puberty, however, by no means does this phase put a hault on your growth.  For some, it might as they genetically are supposed to stop growing at a young age but for most the growing doesn't stop and I would be suprised if it did in your case!

I'm flat too, and that bugs me. But one time when my french class went to Quebec, we played limbo, and I won! But the only reason I won was because the girl I was against hit her boobs on the limbo stick! So hang in there girls! We'll get our breasts eventually!

*MOD** im 13, 5'3" and 96 pounds i think i might be underweight. my mom says im not, and you cant see my ribs, im not anorexic/bulimic, uber-skinny or anything, but im still lighter than my friends (who are all skinny as it is) and i think im supposed to be heavier. any tips on safe, healthy ways to gain weight? thanks

I'm 15 years old and I have growth hormone deficiency. I've been taking growth hormones since I was 5. I still don't have my period and I barely have breasts. Does the gh affect puberty, cause the delay and can it cause me to be infertile?

I have such a flat chest and im 14! I dont have my period either! Im so embarassed to go to a pool with my friends and if guys are there im way self contious! How do I find a cute suit so i can hit the pool? And where? I cant seen to find the perfect one!

Everybody's body is different and there's no need to be self conscious about yours. Pick out a suit that you really like and that you feel like you look your best in. It'll help give you the confidence to forget whatever you don't like about your body. Check around stores near you, and try online if that doesn't work, though it's usually better to try on a bathing suit before you buy it.

Milk helps your bones stay strong so it's great to drink but no, they don't make your boobs grow any bigger.

i am already a 38C in the sixth grade and i turned twelve less than a week ago!! my bffs are only A's and one of them doesnt even need a bra yet!! i am so embarrassed!! also i am overweight and get made fun of by a bunch of guys in my class. i am so insecure about my body do you have any tips on how to lose weight(yes my doc recommended it) and be more confidednt about my bod?

Don't worry. i'm 11, and have little boobs..yet I have enough boobs to wear a padded bra. For you, on the other hand, patience is the key. Nothing you can do will make you grow boobs! Just be patient! Your grapes will turn into melons before you know it!

Just because we get our periods dont mean we will automatically get big breasts. They may change a little but they may not. My mom has had hundreds of periods and she still complains about her chest size sometimes. So it is more be genetic than anything, I am just glad that mine arent small like some of my friends.

im really really smart. im not trying to be concited, but ive had the highest grades in my grade since probably since kindergarten... its great, the techers love me, and i never get in trouble. The only problem is is that everybody sees me as a nerd except a few ppl. im in all advanced classes, adn when ever we come out late, ppl will be waiting to go in and they will be like "nerd, nerd, nerd, o wait. he's not a nerd. nerd, nerd, nerd, Deffenitly a nerd!" ect. the ppl they say arent nerds are guys that play sports are mocho guys, ect. But I am a sporty girl!!! I was on "A" team Volleyball and basket ball, started EVERY game for both, and scored either most or second most points for our team in track EVERY week! how can i get ppl to stop seeing me as a nerd??? i dont even study!!! its just something that comes naturally to me...

Hey girl, it's totally normal to have an irregular period whether it was late or early. As for the tampons, some recommend that we don't use tampons until we've done "it," but it really depends on the person. If you really want to use tampons, try convincing your mom with legitimate reasons. <3 Jeannie

Ok so I've had my period since the beginning of this yeear. It's been pretty regular and stuff. but i started using tampons my last period. im on mine now. last time i used tampons, they hurt to take out. like there wuz barely any blood on the tampon. and it didnt expand. but the next day it wuz heavy until i used a tampon! wuts up?????

 

Hey girl, when you're using tampons it can hurt or not depending on your flow. Somedays it's heavy and somedays it's really lite, up ot the point where your tampon is of little use. Don't worry about it because you're perfectly fine! <3 Jeannie

i have had my period for about 2 1/2 years longer then all my friends. most of my friends are bigger then me in the chest area and everywhere else. i realized that the more weight my friends weigh the bigger there chest is. does your weight have to do with your boob size???

MOD! I think I'm getting my period because I've had discharge for at least 10 months now and my chest and back is sore. not to mention I've been really emotional. The only thing is i've been like this for a few weeks, so I don't know if i'm getting my it or not.

let your mom know that you've started thinking about your period, and that you'd feel more comfortable if you felt prepared. more importantly, let her know that you need HER help! i bet she'll be flattered that you asked Smile try practicing with light tampons first, then move on to regular when you're ready. good luck!
