Hi, I'm Paulette...
Hey GL chicas! My name is Paulette. I interned at GL back in fall 2008 and in January 2009 as an editorial intern. It was such a great experience that I came back this summer. Third times a charm and now I'm lucky enough to be a a fashion intern! I go to school at Towson University in Maryland where I major in Journalism. I also have a great interest in fashion.
...And I <3 clothes
The best part about my job is being able to look at all the clothes, and accessories featured in the magazine up close. Every time I step into the fashion closet, I feel like a kid in a candy store. One of my biggest responsibilities as an intern is organizing the fashion that comes in, and putting together all the fashion returns. I bet you're wondering what those are. Every time GL has a photo shoot, it's my responsibility to organize EVERYTHING that the models wear – from hats to shoes and everything in between. After the shoots are over, I have to make sure that all the clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. are returned to the right peeps.
It's fun! I spend my day taking down garments from the GL fashion rack and sorting tees, jackets, dresses, skirts, shorts and anything and everything by brand. Other duties as a fashion intern include prepping clothes for photo shoots, attending fashion shoots and writing articles for Girlslife.com.
Keeping a list...you gotta stay organized!
Tribal and neons and patterns – oh my!
You chicas may be thinking about summer, but here at GL we're already thinking back-to-school. I got a sneak peek into the hottest trends way before they hit stores. As I was looking through all the fashion accessory goodies, I def saw some trends. There were lotsa bracelets and bangles with African-inspired patterns and bold neon colors. I also found the cutest headbands! Hair accessories have feathers and bows in all sorts of colors is a trend that will be big this fall. When it starts to get cold in the fall, you have to pick up a few pairs of colored or patterned tights. I saw some animal print ones in blue and even pink. Funky tights are def keeping my legs toasty when the temps start dropping.
Look at those cool headbands – so fun!
Why being a fashion intern is my dream come true
One of my fave things to do is pretend I'm a stylist. I love getting up every morning and looking through my closet for an outfit. Some of my fave fashion things are belts, dresses and earrings. I think belts always add that extra li'l somethin' to an outfit. I really can’t stand to wear pants. If I could, I'd wear a dress everyday. I also love all types of earrings from hoops to pearls.
I hope all the fashionistas will love the insight I gave about working at GL. I'll be organizing all the fash for ya, stay tuned in to the latest trends...oh and I'm also a mod after hours. Keep looking fab, girlies.
