My sixth grade year was horrible. At the beginning I had a great time, then about a month before winter break things got nasty. I finished sixth grade, but I heard from my seventh grade friends, that seventh grade is the worst.
Now I'm scared to move up. Help!
-Scared of 7th Grade
Hey girl!
Nasty, huh? That doesn't sound too good, at all. And I know how you feel: moving into new grades unfortunately means new levels of stress and new commitments, new teachers, new routines, and new experiences. Eek!
But not to worry: since seventh grade is going to be new and scary for everyone, you can all conquer those seventh grade jitters together! Let your friends know that you're nervous about movin' up a grade, and they'll let you in on their secret worries about it too – things are way less scary when you know you're not alone! Talk to friends you have in your grade about ways they are thinking about handling the transition – maybe something they suggest, or something they are doing, will help you out, too.
Turn your focus onto things that will make you excited for the year ahead instead of things that will make you dread it! Ask friends who have already been through the seventh grade for some helpful hints, and ask them about their favorite (instead of least favorite) parts about being in seventh grade. Your mom, dad, mentors, or teachers might remember great parts of 7th grade, too.
Put those horrible sixth grade days behind you, and look forward to a great year as a brand new seventh grader! Every school year is what you make it – make sure your seventh is even better than your sixth.
Good luck Girlie!!
