Blast from the Past: Daring Decade-themed Sleepovers

Check these out, too...

  • 100 ways to have a blast this winter
  • Cupid cuties sleepover
  • Sleep like a zombie slumber party
  • 100 secrets to a super sleepover
  • Classic '90s teen movie marathon sleepover

Looking to add a new chapter to your sleepover history? Take one from the books. Invite your BFFs over for a blast from the past and try out old-school fashions, food, movies, and music. Whether it’s ‘50s classic or ‘80s rad, we’ve got the decades covered so you’ll be rocking ‘round the clock.

‘50s Swell

Let the good times roll. From rock 'n' roll to soda shops, the '50s marked the emergence of the teen culture.

The Attire: Have your friends dress in poodle skirts, cardigans, blouses, cat-eyed glasses, and scarves. Think of the Pink Ladies from Grease for a more edgy look.

The Grub: Go for traditional malt shop fare like cheeseburgers, fries and milkshakes. Don’t forget the ice cream for ice cream floats!

The Flicks: Pop in Grease and Back to the Future for some retro classics.

The Tunes: Be sure to get plenty of Elvis Presley. Try "Suspicious Minds" and "Hound Dog" for two very different but equally rollin' hits. For more rock, dare to grab a decades hit disc. We also suggest "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry.

‘60s Hip

Peace, love, and happiness, sistah! With the U.S. at the cusp of major social change, the ‘60s brought the hippie counterculture and legends like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

The Attire: Peasant blouses, flair jeans, and hairbands or flower clips. Peace sign necklaces and smiley faces (they became very popular in this decade) are a must!

The Grub: The ‘60s were all about trying new things. Try different ethnic dishes or have a buffet. This is your chance to test out that new dish you've been scared to try!

The Flicks: Try movies like Hairspray and Across the Universe for modern tribute flicks. For a more authentic ‘60s feel, go for the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night or the glam Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The Tunes: The Beatles and the Rolling Stones are a must. You can't go wrong with anything by these two groups, but start off with "I Want to Hold your Hand" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want." Keep the groovy music marathon going all night long!

‘70s Groovy

Take it to the dance floor, ladies. Winding down from the wild ‘60s, the ‘70s marked the emergence of disco and go-go fashion.

The Attire: Patterned dresses and big hoop earrings and hair. Don’t forget the go-go boots or platforms!

The Grub: Keep the glam disco scene alive with some party fondue! Cheese fondue for dinner and chocolate for dessert. So yummy and fun!

The Flicks: Go for a '70s classic like Saturday Night Fever. It’s bound to keep you dancing all night long.

The Tunes: Get moving to some funky beats. Chances are you know (and love!) "Stayin' Alive," "RESPECT," "YMCA," and "We are Family!" And try some modern techno with a disco vibe.

‘80s Rad

Go all out, girlies! From funky fashion on shows like Saved by the Bell and valley-girl slang, to poppy tunes by Madonna and hair-sprayed hair, the ‘80s were a colorful decade that paved the way for history to be what it is today.

The Attire: Go for Madonna-inspired ensembles (dresses, jean jackets, gloves, and necklaces). For extra-fun, don workout-ready spandex. No matter what you wear, don't forget to tease that 'do.

The Grub: Play up the the colorful theme and go for an '80s classic: Jello pops...or Jello anything for that matter! Keep the food vibrant and you can't go wrong.

The Flicks: Go for ‘80s classics like The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, and Sixteen Candles.

The Tunes: Put Madonna’s earliest hits up at full volume and get rocking! It's all about fun in this era. Rock out with your girls to other classics like Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield."

what animal/pet should i get? My Family and I want to get a pet any pet but what kind. We are always home during vacation and weekends both of my parents work full time my sister and i have school we have no small children and i dont know what to do oh and i leave for school at 8:10 a.m. and my sister gets home from school at 2:45. My mom sometimes eats lunch at home during the schoolyear. do u have any ideas what animals we shoul get. (no hampsters or weasels.)

Hey babe,

I have experience with dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, mice, rats, bearded dragons and ferrets. They each have upsides and downsides. Any pet is going to be a lot of work and a little bit of unavoidable smell. Rodents are the smelliest, but they're pretty easy to take care of and the smallness makes them cute forever. Reptiles never shed and don't smell as much, but they're less cute. Fish are the easiest and the most convenient, but they don't do much. Cats and dogs are the most fun to have, but they're also a LOT of work. Think about what works best for your family and what you guys think is most important.

P.S. when all three of us hang out i fell kinda left out.

Hey babe,

Try centering on activities that will get you talking like truth or dare or never have I ever. They're classics and they get you guys talking and bonding so maybe their relationship can include you too.
