Blast from the Past: Daring Decade-themed Sleepovers

Check these out, too...

  • 100 ways to have a blast this winter
  • Cupid cuties sleepover
  • Sleep like a zombie slumber party
  • 100 secrets to a super sleepover
  • Classic '90s teen movie marathon sleepover

Looking to add a new chapter to your sleepover history? Take one from the books. Invite your BFFs over for a blast from the past and try out old-school fashions, food, movies, and music. Whether it’s ‘50s classic or ‘80s rad, we’ve got the decades covered so you’ll be rocking ‘round the clock.

‘50s Swell

Let the good times roll. From rock 'n' roll to soda shops, the '50s marked the emergence of the teen culture.

The Attire: Have your friends dress in poodle skirts, cardigans, blouses, cat-eyed glasses, and scarves. Think of the Pink Ladies from Grease for a more edgy look.

The Grub: Go for traditional malt shop fare like cheeseburgers, fries and milkshakes. Don’t forget the ice cream for ice cream floats!

The Flicks: Pop in Grease and Back to the Future for some retro classics.

The Tunes: Be sure to get plenty of Elvis Presley. Try "Suspicious Minds" and "Hound Dog" for two very different but equally rollin' hits. For more rock, dare to grab a decades hit disc. We also suggest "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry.

‘60s Hip

Peace, love, and happiness, sistah! With the U.S. at the cusp of major social change, the ‘60s brought the hippie counterculture and legends like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

The Attire: Peasant blouses, flair jeans, and hairbands or flower clips. Peace sign necklaces and smiley faces (they became very popular in this decade) are a must!

The Grub: The ‘60s were all about trying new things. Try different ethnic dishes or have a buffet. This is your chance to test out that new dish you've been scared to try!

The Flicks: Try movies like Hairspray and Across the Universe for modern tribute flicks. For a more authentic ‘60s feel, go for the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night or the glam Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The Tunes: The Beatles and the Rolling Stones are a must. You can't go wrong with anything by these two groups, but start off with "I Want to Hold your Hand" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want." Keep the groovy music marathon going all night long!

‘70s Groovy

Take it to the dance floor, ladies. Winding down from the wild ‘60s, the ‘70s marked the emergence of disco and go-go fashion.

The Attire: Patterned dresses and big hoop earrings and hair. Don’t forget the go-go boots or platforms!

The Grub: Keep the glam disco scene alive with some party fondue! Cheese fondue for dinner and chocolate for dessert. So yummy and fun!

The Flicks: Go for a '70s classic like Saturday Night Fever. It’s bound to keep you dancing all night long.

The Tunes: Get moving to some funky beats. Chances are you know (and love!) "Stayin' Alive," "RESPECT," "YMCA," and "We are Family!" And try some modern techno with a disco vibe.

‘80s Rad

Go all out, girlies! From funky fashion on shows like Saved by the Bell and valley-girl slang, to poppy tunes by Madonna and hair-sprayed hair, the ‘80s were a colorful decade that paved the way for history to be what it is today.

The Attire: Go for Madonna-inspired ensembles (dresses, jean jackets, gloves, and necklaces). For extra-fun, don workout-ready spandex. No matter what you wear, don't forget to tease that 'do.

The Grub: Play up the the colorful theme and go for an '80s classic: Jello pops...or Jello anything for that matter! Keep the food vibrant and you can't go wrong.

The Flicks: Go for ‘80s classics like The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, and Sixteen Candles.

The Tunes: Put Madonna’s earliest hits up at full volume and get rocking! It's all about fun in this era. Rock out with your girls to other classics like Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield."

what animal/pet should i get? My Family and I want to get a pet any pet but what kind. We are always home during vacation and weekends both of my parents work full time my sister and i have school we have no small children and i dont know what to do oh and i leave for school at 8:10 a.m. and my sister gets home from school at 2:45. My mom sometimes eats lunch at home during the schoolyear. do u have any ideas what animals we shoul get. (no hampsters or weasels.)

Hey babe,

I have experience with dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, mice, rats, bearded dragons and ferrets. They each have upsides and downsides. Any pet is going to be a lot of work and a little bit of unavoidable smell. Rodents are the smelliest, but they're pretty easy to take care of and the smallness makes them cute forever. Reptiles never shed and don't smell as much, but they're less cute. Fish are the easiest and the most convenient, but they don't do much. Cats and dogs are the most fun to have, but they're also a LOT of work. Think about what works best for your family and what you guys think is most important.

MOD! i have to wear a t-shirt with my performing art's camp's logo on it for the performance. what can i wear to look cute while still wearing the t-shirt???

Hey girly, now is the time to accessorise! Throw on a cute headband, and some funky jewlrey. Try polishing your nails. Since you have to wear your camp's logo t-shirt, pair some cute bottoms with it. Maybe a stylin mini skirt or some fab jeans. Don't forget about your shoes!

MOD MOD MOD what's a cute outfit for being on the road? it'll be four hours. i also want to know how i keeping feeling fresh and not bored on the road!

Hey girly, well a road outfit needs to be one that is both comfy and chic. So I reccommend wearing a blouse, either a simple  one or one with ruffles, some jeans and cute ballet flats. Throw a headband on and maybe a necklace and bracelet. Bring along an ipod, or a book to keep you non-bored.

I would really like the 50's one I think. It is probably just because I really love Grease, but still. Hey girls! If you watch a movie and are planning on staying up most of the night, always stick it in in the evening, like around 7:00 so you wont fall asleep.

At the end of th eyear dance i asked him to dance but his friend had alresdy asked me (i had said no) so he said no to me. I'm worried that it'l be really wierd between us even though we've always been friends. what should i do?

Hey girl!  It may be kinda awk at first, but if you start talking like usually and joke around, things will be back to normal before you know it!  if you don't act like anythings wrong, he'll be more comfortable too.  Best, Kristen

These r super cool ideas...but if u ever have a regular sleepover with a lot of friends, try these ideas:
A DIY slip-n-slide....put all the sleeping bags 2gether and put a few pillows at the end against a wall.that way if u go 2 far, ull hit something soft.
Have a karaoke contest..me and my friends luv karaoking together to lotsa ppl like the jonas brothers miley cyrus metro station and a bunch of others.
Make a sketch comedy..put ur acting and writing skills to the test by creating sketches like the ones in 'Sonny With A Chance'. Or make a drama or action sketch. Film it and post it on YouTube. Who knows, maybe it'll become a hit and eventually make ur way 2 Hollywood.
Have a crazy fashion show..mix n match clothes everyone brought and c what rockin styles u can make

Hope u guys like my ideas!!

in desperate need of help! my dad has total anger management problems as well as control issues. everything I do is monitored!!! luv the sleepover ideas but I'll never use them Frown for me it's no sleepovers, boys, make-up, nail polish, too cute of outfits for school, heels, facebook, reading before bed, one day without washing my hair, shopping when he's in a bad mood (most of the time), on the phone after 10, choosing when to go to bed, and trust me the list goes on. sometimes I find myself crying to sleep because I cant be a regular girl. everything I do depends on his mood and he always overrules my mom. most importantly trying to reason make everything worst by millions of times because he sees it as disobedience. he's very sensitive and can erupt in the blink of an eye. lastly he won't quit smoking and drinking beer no matter what I do. please don't think I'm exaggerating because I've lived like this for years and years and my moms had it much longer. just recently did I open up to a counselor who's not answering my email so please help because I'll appreciate it much.
xoxo,
b

Hey girl, I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. It's tough when a parent is controlling and angry, and it can also be very scary. Unfortunately, I can't help you very much with this, which is why I'm proud of you for talking to a counselor, because I think that's where you can get the best advice. Check out the links on the page HERE for some extra help on what you can do in your situation. Maybe you should talk to your mom about having some family therapy, where you three can talk about how you feel with a mediator present. Good luck and stay strong, and please keep talking to the counselor.

okay so. my really close friend nicolette, who ive known for like ever(since kindergarden), is really getting into bad stuff. okay so ill tell you the whole story. she recently started hanging out with these bad kids. they are all really close to our age-14, except for one guy, his name is tyler and hes 19! They both like eachother. which is not illegal, but it can be. hes told her thats hes done just about everything(sexually), and he keeps on saying to her like hey you should do _______ this to me. like bad things you know 14 year olds shouldnt be doing. and she doesnt really plan on doing it, but i dont think thats the full truth, because she keeps on changing it, but she wouldnt actually do it but you know?. And also these kids smoke!!! cigarettes and pot. and nicolettes has been around them when they were high! and im like really? and lately shes been smoking cigarettes with them. this tyler kid actually bought her her own pack!! me, and my friends aleesha and danielle were like dude, nicolette, you really shouldnt be doing this, number one, you know smoking is dumb(oh yeah i forgot to say that she was gonna buy pot from this kid too!! but she hasnt smoked that before. and i told her if she were ever to ever ever do that crap our friendship is done. and i think that helped), and if you do anything with this kid, you parents can find out and they will kill you and he will get arrested, and that this is totally wrong. i mean shes not this kinda girl. she has a great life, and we dont want her to ruin it by hanging with these lowlifes. oh yeah. hes also been trying to get her to sneak out at night to go out with him. and i dont want her to do this. my friends and i really dont know what to do because shes like well cigarettes taste gross, but for some reason i like them. and i was actually gonna just maybe makeout with him and see where it goes from there. and we were like NICOLETTE really? your parents will KILL YOU! shes just not getting it. and i was talking to her cousin whos also our age and we are both good friends with and shes worried too! what should i do? its so sad and it doesnt seem like im getting sense into her. and also whenever i go over there she always makes me go hangout with these kids with her, and one time the underage kid, he lit up a cigarette and i was like nicolette, I HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOOM, PLEASE COME WITH ME. because ive told her before, i hate being around people to smoke but she didnt seem to get it, so i just walked back to her house and just peed, so i could get away from it and i walked slowly back and texted her sayying, hey i feel really uncomfortable with them smoking. and shes like alright well go back soon, but we didnt so i just went down on the pier, (she lives on a lake) far away because the kids were smoking! she wasnt though thank goodness at that moment. what should i do if this happens again?
what should i do with this whole scenario???
thanks so much for helping, i hope shell get some sense in her head!

Hey girl, it's hard to deal with a friend who you think is making some bad choices. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to stop her from doing what she wants. You can, however, talk to her about how her choices affect you and her other friends, as well as herself. Oh, and it is illegal for a 19 year old to be involved with a 14 year old, so maybe you should mention that to your friend, too. If she continues to make these poor decisions, it sucks but you can remove yourself from the situation and stop being her friend. You have done your part to warn her, and to tell her how you feel, but if she doesn't stop then there isn't much else you can do. Good luck!

MOD! I NEED HELP
what order do you put liner shadow and mascara on so it wont smudge at all and what is a really great makeup remover that get off heavy black eye makeup

Hey girlie, well I know when I'm applying my makeup I like to put the shadow on first, then the liner and finish it off with mascara, but as long as you're careful and take your time it doesn't matter what order you apply your makeup. For my make up remover I use a mineral organic  powder, but  check out Mac because they have some great products. Also try olive oil  or vaseline.
