Q&A

I think I have appendicitis. How can I tell if I do?

An organ with not much purpose sure can cause a lot of pain. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, one in 500 people comes down with appendicitis each year. “The pain is centered in the right, lower part of the abdomen. It’s associated with a slight fever, nausea, and loss of appetite,” says Dr. Philip Schoenfeld. Other stomach problems tend to get better and go away – appendicitis doesn’t.

If the pain continues for longer than six to 12 hours, or if you experience recurrent or acute sever belly pain, contact a physician – pronto! Appendicitis is nothing to mess with – it can cause the appendix to rupture or result in an infection. Surgery is necessary, but appendectomies are common.

my friend had an appendicitis. she said you'll know if you have one. she says it's a pain you've never felt before. it's sorta like you think you just got your period but didn't. and then when you actually do get it feels different and you just know.

Thank you Taeler!

Mod! I have a question. Ok, so we were learning about heredity (Traits passed down from generation to generation) in science and we were talking about learned traits and inharited traits. One of the examples for inharited traits were disieses. My dad has had leukimia TWICE and I was just wondering if I could get it. I asked the teacher and she said there is a big possibility. My dad asked his doctor and he said there is NO CHANCE AT ALL. I'm so confused!

Hey girl! Sounds like you are getting some different answers. I'm not totally sure about this one. I would talk to your own doc and see what kind of risks are possible for you!

I kept on having these sharp pains on the sides of my stomach and I thought I had appendictitis but my mom said it wasn't because she's had it before. but i was still scared about it because i learned about it in 4th grade and i was so interested in it that i kinda took it too seriously.

hey 2 tell if you have greasy hair, run your fingers through a part that you think isn't greasy, then close your eyes and feel a place that you think is greasy, that's what I do. Make sure you run your fingers through back.

P.S. when you're hair is greasy DO NOT WEAR IT DOWN! my friend does all the time and it's super disgusting but don't worry your friends have all had days just like that. hope i helped!!!

Elle-
When your hair is greasy it typically feels a little wet and like you put gel in it. Theres a girlie in my homeroom with greasy hair and its super noticable! Remember to wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner every or every other day to avoid it! Hope this helps!

XOXO-
Kayla

MOD MOD MOD !!!
Ok everytime I shave my legs my thighs are still always hairy. It really bugs me. I have tried shaving in little strokes up down and sideways but nothing works. Any tips ?
-<3- Bre

Hey babe,

Just shave slower and only in one direction. Longer strokes tend to work better. Make sure you moisturize before and after and use enough pressure.

in december, i got really sick my mom gave me everything she could but nothing seemed to help, that day i was at school the pain was so bad i couldnt stand it and i always hold it in. later at night my mom took me to the clinic, they said it might be appendicites,i asked what that was and i saw my mom tearing up, she took me to the hospital right away, were i spent my whole night until they translated me to a room. 1 hour later, the doctor comes in and tells me t hat in an hour i would go into surgury, i was only 12 but it still makes me cry. if i didnt go in at that time i couldve died, so dont let time pass and go to a doctor.

amr.freak on 8/29/2009 1:07:07 PM

when i was in 4th grade, i got appendicitis. luckily, my mom is a nurse so she could tell, but don't be afraid of it! it's way different than a stomach cramp, and you lose your appetite completely. i started throwing up on the way to the hospital, although it came on suddenly. the day i started hurting, i was fine up until 4 PM. i went shopping, played tennis, normal things. then i just got really bad pain. but it's nothing at all to worry about - extremely painless and no complications. i don't even have a scar because they remove it different now! so no huge stomach scar! Smile **did you know that scientists just found a use for the appendix now? google it, its on yahoo! Laughing

i had my appendix out recently, and the pain i had was usually once a month, so i thought i was having my period but i checked and no blood. it started as a teeny stomach and grew and grew into a very intense pain. i was lucky and got it removed before it ruptured. thats just my story and maybe it can help u out a bit

jegentry on 8/26/2009 9:43:14 PM

Thanks for the info iC3CR3aM! Pretty cool!

AcePrincessGal on 8/26/2009 8:25:14 PM

I heard that too, iC3CR3aM.

I know that in countries where they don't have sanitary drinking water, the people use their appendixes.

Actually, I found out not so long ago that the appendix might be a not so useless organ. Because long ago as a cause of evolution the appendix helped fight diseases because it produced white cells and "good bacteria". That was at the time of the Stone Age. But because now we have clean drinking water and we mostly cook everything. The appendix have no more work to do. Scientist believe that the inflammation might be due because "the appendix is an organ whose time has passed has itself become a concept whose time is over."

Just a little information I though you should now.
