I think my friend is anorexic. I want to talk to her and help her, but every time I try she gets really angry with me!
I’m really sorry to hear about your friend. I know it’s going to be hard to reach out to your pal, but don’t be discouraged. I promise that you can help your chica.
First, try talking to your gal just one more time (if you really feel like she won't listen you can try to give her a little letter with all of this in it!). Get her one-on-one—def don't call her out in a group situation where she could feel cornered. Start the convo off by telling you chickie how much you love and care about her and what a great person you think she is. Let her know that you're her pal and you're always there to support her and listen, without passing judgment. Tell her that you notice that things seem a little off with her lately...and then ask her if something's up.
If you give her a chance to speak her mind, she might admit her problem. Who knows? Her eating habits may have changed due to an even deeper issue. If your girl admits that she has a prob, let her know that you're gonna help her through it and support her, but urge her to seek professional help as well.
Seems like she's in denial and all her odd behavior is still there? It might be time to turn to an adult. Have a private talk with a guidance counselor or maybe your mom about what you think is going on.
It’s not going to be an easy task helping your friend, but keep on caring for her. She’ll appreciate it and realize that she can get through this tough time with your support.
