Pretty Pillows That Pop!

Say goodbye to drab and hello to dramatic by adding a splash of color to your bed: Dye your pillowcases for an instant room redo.

What you’ll need:

•   A plastic tub
•   Rubber gloves
•   A white pillow case

• Dye (try Tulip Custom Dye Color Kit)

Here’s what to do:

Pour one gallon of steamin’ hot water into a plastic tub or your stainless steel sink (don’t forget to plug it up first).

Measure 1/4 cup (4 Tbsp) of salt and mix into the hot water.

Follow the instructions provided with the dye on how to create the color and measure out the proper amount. Stirring carefully, make sure the dye is fully dissolved.

Place your pillowcase into the dye. For a fun ombre look, we left a portion of the pillow case out so that it remained white.

Stir the fabric around in the dye for 15 minutes.

Let your pillow case soak in the dye for 45 minutes—coming back every once in a while to stir it.

Once you take your custom colored pillowcase out of the dye, rinse it under cold water and then machine-wash it in warm by itself.

Let it air dry away from direct sunlight. Once your pillowcase is completely dry, slip it over a pillow and toss it on your bed. Fashionable and functional!

Tip: The fabric dyes work best on natural fibers so try something like cotton, rayon or silk to get the brightest color possible.

my bedroom just got painted green and purple but the green turned out sort of gray tinge and the purple too............. what should I do to liven things up a bit? I am a very lively person...

If you can't touch up the paint, then bring some more liveliness to your room with bright lamps and rugs. You control what's in your room even if the walls seem to be fading.

i would do the pillow cases as zebra stripes. my room is going to be green in about 2 weeks. and then im making my blanket and pillow cases and curtains zebra stripes. its going to be soooo cool.

This is kinda what me n 2 of my friends had 2 do 4 an English project...we tie dyed a white sheet n it turned out ssooo good!!!!!here's what we did:
take a plain white sheet, pillow case, sock etc. and tie a few rubber bands around it in diff ways
next, put the dye color of ur choice(we used yellow), pour and mix it into the bucket of hot water...
Now, use ur hands to swirl the sheet around for about 15 minutes
when it's dry, put diff colors in spray bottles, then spray it around the sheet or pillow case
it is soo much fun cuz u can make ur own designs too

to first comment: another idea is if you have curtains over your window then use a pretty ribbon to tie them!!! trust me it really helps.
