School

Private or public school?

I go to an all-girls private school where I have to wear a uniform. It seriously stinks! I want to switch to public school because I can wear whatever I want, there will be boys and I will be able to go to school with my BFF.

But if I change schools, then I will leave everyone I've been with since preschool. I've never changed schools, so I won't know what that's like. HELP ME!

Hey girl, I understand exactly how you feel. Why? Because I’ve been there, lived through it and...guess what? It’s not so bad! I went to private school all my life, an all-girls school in high school and wore a uniform until I went to college. It may seem awful at times, but looking back I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

Dress up your uni

Sometimes it sucks to have to wear a uniform. But think of the money you save on buying the latest trends and the time you save trying to decide what to wear every morning. Instead of dreading your uni, find little ways to spice it up so you stand out from the crowd. If you’re allowed to, paint your nails a bright color. Add a funky ribbon to your ponytail. Change up the shoelaces in your school shoes.

Eek...school without eye candy?

Now for the boys. Yeah, it can get boring at times. But think of how much better school is without guys. You don’t have to spend forever on makeup in the a.m. because there’s no one to impress. Boys aren’t there to tease you every time you turn around. You can throw a tampon across the room to your friend with no one to judge you.

It's all about your besties

And, most importantly, it gives you time to focus on your studies and your relationship with your girlfriends. Remember, boys make come and go, but your girls will be there forever. And if you’re still itching to change schools, make a list of all the pros and cons before you make a decision. You can spend time with your BFFs and guys after school and on the weekend. But your education has to come first. Good luck, hon!

Lots of love,
L’Oreal

I've had my period for almost exactly three years, but its still extremely irregular. Id this normal? Also, whenever I try to use a tampon it really hurts to put it in. I can never get it in all the way. Is there something wrong with me?

Hey babe, it's normal to be irregular for a few years so I'm sure you're fine but I would talk to your doc just to be sure. Also , many girls struggle with tampons for a while so be sure you read the directions in the box. Ask your mom or a friend for help too and if it's still not feeling right, stick with pads and try again later.

MOD**** Okay so IM in 5th grade and i have been at the same elemantary my whole school career so far. I get made fun of on a regular basis. I have tried to ignore but now im getting really frustrated. When I tell a teacher they say to not be a tattle tail and just shake it off. Well, I have been trying to shake it off for 5 and a half years. When I tell my parents they just say Shake it off. HELP! What should I do?

Hey girl, you need to set up a conference for your parents and teachers, so they will know how bad this teasing thing is. Tell them everything you just told me about how you get made fun of on a regular basis and how it's been going on for five years.

MOD MOD MOD!
I am in advanced classes and it is confusing sometimes but I like the challenge, plus the regular classes are way too easy. I'm happy with my grades, but my mom is always pressuring me! For example: One time when I got a B on a report card my mom blew up at me and was sooo mad! I don't know if she expects me to get all As all the time, but she is always pressuring me. Whenever I'm pulling a blank on my homework and I ask for help she just says: You should know this! and leaves me to do it by myself. My dad always walks me through something when I need help, but he works when I get home from school so I have to ask my mom for help. What should I do?

Hey babe,

Talk to your mom about it and let her know that pressuring you won't make it any easier to succeed. Ask her for a little more room to do your work the way you need to.

My teacher made me cry a lot of times. I went to the counselors, trying to resolve it, but he made it worse. When i went to her class, she was just yelling at me. I have to 'arrange a meeting' with her and my counselor, but I do not want anthing to do with her! Help!

Hey babe,

It will be tough, but having your counselor there when you talk to her will really help the two of you come to a compromise where she stops yelling at you. It's important to make your relationship with her work since she'll be grading you for the rest of the year, so even if it's tough this conversation will really be the best thing for you. Just keep reminding yourself of that and you'll get through it!

MOD*********************************************** I'm in 8th grade and I go to a catholic school. Unlike my BFFs, next year I'll be attending a public school where my mom works at a daycare for the babies whose mothers are students there. Well, my BFFs keep making fun of the school I'm gonna go to, saying things like I'll get pregnant and shot. It hurts me, because I've actually met the girls who have had babies (they HAVENT) and they're really nice people. And let me just say, the catholic school they're going to isn't all perfect either. How should I respond to their mean comments? Thanks and srry this is so long Smile

Hey girl! That's not too cool of them! Tell them what you told me and tell them how happy you are to go where there are some different types of people around! Let them know you will miss them too, though!

MOD*MOD*MOD*MOD* I have these two friends who I can't help not bieng warm to them. I'm not completely mean but they did a lot of things at the beggining of the year that caused ALL my friends to hate me and one of them tried to find a lot of excuses to leave me out of things. Then when I decided to stop socialising with those two friends, ALL my friends stopped talking to them and said they do the same things to them. Any tips to sort out the drama? Thanks MOD

Hey girl! Try talking to everyone. Getting everything out in the open will help you gals feel better about all the rumors and drama. Dwelling on the probs will only make them more drama-filled!

Sometimes BOYS can be such a distraction. In some ways going to an all girls school would be good for our education but bad for our social life. I love boys even if they are immature and a pain. I dont know what I would do without them. I am just really attracted to them especially the cute ones who have nice bodies, but who isnt.

luckykel on 10/5/2009 3:03:51 PM

i go to a private school, and i think it's great. of course, my school is co-ed so i can't say much about the all girls school scene, but as for the uniforms, it's really not that bad. you don't have to spend time in the morning thinking about what you're going to wear, and nobody can make fun of what you're wearing because you're all wearing pretty much the same thing!
if you want a bit of variation, put a couple pins on your lapel (if you wear a blazer), or if you wear a kilt, add a nice charm onto the kilt pin. also, if you wear makeup, don't be afraid to be bold with your colours (same with nail polish).
hope this helps! (:

MODMODMODMOD my brother has been in college for like 2 months. he says the smartest kids there were homeschooled. they were smarter because they took college classes in what would have been their jumior and senior years of highschool. so next year my parents were thinking of homeschooling me well like the group of parents who homeschool their kids all chip in for people to teach all the kids and one of friends is in it and says she likes it. but my dad said i would need a little more iniciative but i dont understand what he means. he knows im intelligent enough to handle it but im not sure if i should.

Hey girl!  It sounds like your dad means that even though you're smart enough, you will have to work harder and be more involved because the classes will be more challenging.  Whether or not you should do it is totally up to you.  If you're a smart girl, you'll be successful no matter what. Best, Kristen

whether you switch or not doesn't necessarily just depend on ur feelings it also depends on wat county u liv in. I liv in a county where skewl systems arent *the best*. In my hi skewl, a boy got stabbed to death by another student and there a ton of gangs lookin for recruits. Sure u hav 2 wear a uniform & theres no boys, but that meens less harassment & distractions, unless of course ur county has a good system. Then by all means, go ahead!

He's awesome and all,I've known him since 3rd grade but sometimes girls try and use me to get to him because they like him we are so close. Also, girls judge me because I hang out with him say I'm a slut.Help??

Hey missy, when girls say those things to you just ignore them. They're just jealous of you and your guy friend's relationship. And the next time a girl tries to use you to get to him, tell them you can't help them. That if they interested in him, they should approach him themselves. Hope this helps! Smile

Hey babe, if it's a rule then there's prob not much you can do about it. Get in touch with the student council though, and see if this discussion has come up at all and if not, suggest it.

i go to public school. i say switch bcuz all the $$ you 'save on fashion trends' goes straight into the private school funding. then again i never went to private school of any kind. if you switch to private, kids may tease you or make fun of u, but there are good people and bad people everywhere.

Okay, so I really like this guy at my school. He's new and he's from another country, but he speaks English really well. He has absolutely NO friends here except for me, since I've been hanging out with him and he likes talking to me. Thing is, he has a girlfriend--who lives in a different country from him, and whom he's never met!! He talks to her on skype and he's video-chatted with her some, but that's it. They've only known each other for two months, too! He only JUST mentioned it to me, I had to pry it out of him. How do I get him to realize that I'm here for him now and that his relationship isn't exactly a healthy one? Thanks!

Hey girl, I know it's hard, but you've gotta step back. When a guy's in a relationship, he's off limits. As a friend, you can give him advice, but you can't make his decisions for him. All you can do is be there for him so someday if they don't work, there might come that moment when the two of you will.

Okay, so today was the meeting for the school play, The Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe. Only I missed it, because I wouldn't have had a ride home if I I stayed. I mentioned that to the director, but I can't help but feel bad about it. I feel like I'll never able to be there for things ( tennis team, student council, etc), and it's begining to annoy me.
I also feel that I won't get a good role. I don't need to become the star, but just someone of interest. Like nothing with replicas ( the nuns, the townspeople). I am sick to death of getting those parts, then I have to watch people who are decent but I could out perform get the good roles because they 'look like the character'.
How do I increase my chances? I already have one mark against me. I have a segment of the script.
Also, do you think it is a bad thing to drop small roles? I used too, but now I'm second guessing it.

Hey girl, before you get your time in the spotlight, you've gotta work your way up. Take the small parts now and hone your skills. Let the director know your interest and sooner or later you will get that supporting or lead role.

superhannah on 10/1/2009 5:31:22 PM

I always wanted to go to an all girls school, with uniforms, it seems much nicer and easier. School is about education and a it of fun, and your motives for swiching schools don't seem that strong. You can see your friends, meet up with boys, and wear what ever you want outside of school. You don't need to leave the people you've known practically your whole life.

well i kinda like this guy and im pretty sure he likes me back because he always wants to work with me or be my partner in class, i am the only girl he talks to, he's really sweet to me, and I see him looking at me through the corner of my eye in class. the problem is, he never had a gf and is shy about his emotions. also, my friend texted him and asked if he liked anyone then specifically my name, he said he didt like anyone and he liked it that way. idk why he said that though because i am almost positive he likes me back. do you think he likes me? should i ask him out? how? lol thanks mod!!!!!!!! Smile

Hey girl, I'd trust your guy's words on this one. He might like you a lot -- just as a friend. I know it may be hard, but if you're curious if you can be more, you can always hint you wouldn't mind going out with him sometime -- just a 'lil something. If he catches the drift you like him, he may be less nervous to admit he feels the same way himself. That said, if he doesn't, then you won't have to push it. Take it easy and give 'lil hints and see where it goes.

There's this guy in my spanish class that's really cute and i want to get to know him better, and he sits in front of me in class. But, the problem is, i havent talked to him at all(oh, and he just switched to our class last week)! What am i supposed to say? I dont wanna tap on his shoulder and be like "Hi!" or anything embarrassing. I was thinking about asking him what a word in spanish means and then building from their. If you have anymore ideas, i would REALLY appreciate it! Thx!!!

Hey girl, your idea sounds like a way good one. Try asking about the class and see where it goes from there. From word to teacher to classmates to friends to weekend -- it just builds up, senorita. Now it's time for you to take the first step!

well i want to go to a private skewl next year now that ive been thru 2 public skewls i think it depends on ur personality to decide whether to go to a private skewl or not its up to u but dont panic ppl r there for u and dont just go becuz ur bff goes there maybe next year sumbody new will go there and ull have 2 bffs and guys rnt worth hassle u still get to see them, date them, etc. so dont think private skewls r bad just kno that u dont liek them becuz they r boring or wutever not because ur bff isnt there.

ps uniforms express urself but u can still wear ur own stuff on weekdays and it must help not having to get up too early to find ur clothes or debate whether to pikk them owt the day b4 and no girls care because their all wearing the same thing.!!!!

Switching schools would be scary, but you did say you would be with your BFF so you would know someone! And there are sure to be kind people looking for new friends!
