A couple months ago, GL intern Allie wrote about the ah-mazing Operation Beautiful (where you leave notes in public places, in hopes to end “fat talk” among girls and women). Turns out Caitlin, the girl who started the project, is so inspiring you’ll never wanna slack off again. Get this…

Operation Beautiful is being made into a book! How cool is that? I love the idea of having a positive read to flip through.

Caitlin runs and cross-trains a lot, and does charity races. She also works full-time, goes to school part-time and has two different blogs. (Note: I can never say I’m “too busy” to exercise again.)

She’s vegetarian. I’m an omnivore, but think that guys ‘n’ girls who go veggie are really cool. Maybe I’ll finally try this idea.

So, girlies, who’s been inspiring you lately? Have you accomplished any of your BIG GOALS yet? Have you posted any Operation Beautiful notes?

this is an amazing idea. everyone is beautiful in her own way. this is how i found out about it : I am on swimteam and i have alot of muscle and im only 5'4 (im 13. i was at the mall trying on a dress and a random girl walked up to me and told me if i wanted to look good in that dress i needed to lose weight because i was too fat. that hurt me alot so i went into the bathroom . i started to cry and then i looked up. a note said "you are beautiful. no one can tell you otherwise". that was when i found out about operation beautiful.

Okay so Im gonna be turning sixteen soon and Ive been working on the GED practice test. My plan was to finish all I need to know to graduate this year then next year take fun classes part time at the highschool. Well you can't go back to school if you take the GED and I don't know if I should just take it and be done with school this year. Thats kind of a scary thought and I don't know if Im ready to start out on my own. Please please help thanks!

Hey girl! You should talk to your parents about this school situation. They will have good input and you shouldn't do something unless you are ready.

hey mod, I gain weight very fast. Since the beginning of the school year I've probably gained almost 10lbs. I gain so much weight during the school year then I try to work it off throughout the summer but there's just too much to take off! I've been eating right and I've tried to exercise everyday but school makes me really tired and sometimes I just don't have the time to! I don't have gym this semester but I do next. This is really bothering me, but being 'heavier' does run in my family. I get really upset and I beat myself up over this. What can I do?

Hey girl,

Even if you are eating healthy foods, your portion sizes might be to big. Try making them a little smaller and avoid drinking sodas. If it is bothering you, you can see a doctor and he/she will tell you if there's something else going on that's causing you to gain weight. Good Luck!

How can I get closer to a guy that's only in my band and choir classes? (Only one class per day)? We're both really kind of shy about that stuff, I think, but I think he likes me too. What kinds of things can I say to him without seeming overly desperate? In other words, how can I start up a casual conversation without seeming clingy and random and obvious? Thanks so much in advance, and sorry about the whole thing that this has absolutely nothing to do with Operation Beautiful and how long it is!

Hey girl, how about asking about the band? Start with small talk about school and go from there. Figure out your transitions before you start talking and like a good piece of music, just go with it. You'll be fine.

Hey girl, try talking to him during lunch or joining an activity with him after school. Does he play a sport? Attend one of his games. Be creative, girlie. If there's a will, there's a way.

Ok, so I asked this before to a diff mod, but didn't get a satisfactory answer. I am going to France to see my grandparents this christmas break. My grandparents there aren't doing too well and my dad is afraid this may be their last year. I don't know them very well, and since they speak French, it's hard to communicate. Most people would be excited, I'm sad. I wanted to do christmas with my grandparents in New Mexico like we always do. I don't like change. Plus, I'll be celebrating my b-day in France, my 13th birthday at that!!! So it's got me totally depressed and I miss my grandma like crazy cuz shes back at her house after staying with us for awhile. I feel selfish tho, cuz this my be my granpa's last year. How can I hype myslef up for this trip? Don't say just think positive or anything,I mean like what can I plan or do to keep myslef excited and busy while waiting for this trip??? THX!

Hey girl, first of all, that's way cool you're going to France. I'd love to visit. But I'm going to be honest with you. It's so hard when people you care about may not last a little longer. Things that can get you excited? Well, all the fun things you can do with your grandparents. Make a list of things you want to do with them -- places you want to eat, things you want to talk about, movies you want to watch, etc. This may be your last chance to do it with them, girlie, so make it last. I think this is a pretty cool idea.. Being healthy is important, but so is being confident in what and who you are. Sometimes it's hard to balance and decipher those things. This is awesome..

Hey girl, why not try putting posters up around the school or talking to your teachers about starting a club for the operation? That way you'll be spreading the love, getting more involved, and doing it all in a totes legal way!
