We Tried It!

Going Semi-Vegetarian

I can’t remember the last time I ate a steak—  I haven’t eaten pork or red meat since high school. I stick to a mainly vegetarian diet. I enjoy fish sometimes and maybe the occasional baked chicken breast. So, I guess technically I am a semi-vegetarian.

My appetite for red meat became nonexistent when I learned about animal cruelty. Eventually, just the thought of eating a hot dog literally made me queasy.  It wasn’t too hard to make the switch. I come from big Italian and Polish families and both love to base their meals around animals that go “moo” and “oink.”

I held my ground and was eventually got used to finding tasty veg alternatives when eating the meat-filled meals with my family. Surprisingly, the biggest struggle for me was the loss of A1 Sauce. Suddenly, I had nothing to soak delish steak sauce in! No biggie though, now if I get a craving for it, I just add it to baked potatoes or eat it with yummy fish.

I make up the protein loss with veggie burgers, nuts (almonds are my fave), and natural peanut butter. I love veggie stir-fry. Hummus is always top on my grocery list. It’s high in protein, iron and vitamin C, which are all important in every diet! I also love sushi (of course!) and all kinds of curry.

I’m not cheering all you girlies on to go veg or go home.  I am encouraging any of you who are or who are thinking about becoming vegetarians to make your own healthy plans. You don’t have to follow every rule and recommendation. I certainly don’t and I’ve been sticking to mine for years. If you’re passionate about your diet, whatever your reason for it may be, you should find a way to make it work for you!

Go veg its awesome, animals are tortured and put through heck just for us to have one meal, and they are injected with poison and hormones, and not eating meats reduces chances of cancer, heart disease, some cancers and much more

abercrombieluvr on 11/7/2009 7:40:41 PM

YAY! GO Semi-Vegetarians! I started last February and haven't gone back. Though my mom tries to give me food with ham or something in it, I always catch her. I started because a friend of mine explained to me that I didn't have to go full vegetarian... I could be a Red Meat vegetarian. I love it and, though I have nthing against eating Red Meat, the thought of eating a steak now makes me cringe. It's another way to go green and stay healthier!

SEMI-VEGETARIANS ROCK!!

lily_bug9996 on 10/13/2009 6:57:24 PM

i;m vegetarian

twilightgirl/taylorfan on 10/4/2009 1:09:20 PM

I don't eat meat at all. i never have and i never will. go semi vegetarians!

crackercrumb3 on 10/3/2009 8:41:06 AM

For me, this would be a challenge. Could I manage for a day or a week? Definitely. Forever? No. Also, I think that it's part of the food chain. We are supposed to eat cows and pigs and such, and there are things they are supposed to eat as well. I'm not against people being vegetarians, but I think that if I were vegetarian, it would be for health. But I'm COMPLETELY against animal cruelty, cows being fed harmones, etc. I haven't had a cheeseburger from Mickey D's in forever! I'm trying to be healthy, and I find that unhealthy meats just don't work. That's why I eat fish and meat where no hormones were fed to the animals, and not from those AWFUL animal cruelty farm places.

cassieann23 on 10/2/2009 7:15:36 PM

i've been a vegetarian, always will be.......GO VEGGIES!

_paramorelover on 10/1/2009 6:36:17 PM

I could never go vegitarian. i eat meat almost ever day. my dad is really big on meat so i think i get it from him. But congrates on those who can.

gymmonkey on 10/1/2009 6:29:30 PM

My mom is a vegitarian. I tried going vegitarian once, but it is so hard when you've been a meat eater for so long Frown

FibromyalgiaSUCKS on 9/30/2009 7:08:22 PM

I think the is awesome! Unfortunatly, I can't eat soy(I'm allergic to it) but I only eat a little bit of chicken or fish 1-2 time a week. I wish I wouldn't have to eat any meat, but if I didn't I'd probably get really sick.

So, GO SEMI-VEGETERIANS!!!!

Hi! I'm Aubrey please visit my profile!

I'm a full Vegetarian which means I eat no meat. That includes no chicken and fish. I eat cheese and other dairy as well as eggs. I did it for the animals because they are slaughtered everyday. I think its horrible that people say they love animals and then eat them a minute later. I also did it because of my health because you can get diseases much easier because of the extra fat and chlorestral. I also did it for the environment because they overfeed cows that they kill for us to eat. They cut down lost of trees for pasture. P.S. Semi-vegetarian means that you eat fish but nothing else. Some people think fish don't feel pain. Chicken is a meat however so this is not a vegetarian case. Please, go vegetarian and go to my profile if you want more info.
Thank you!

glamgirlteen on 9/29/2009 9:08:36 PM

i cant become a vegetarian
im allergic to nuts
plus i like meat and seafood to much

CiCi840 on 9/29/2009 5:59:28 PM

Plus i feel reeeally bad for all the cows and pigs that r tortured from the fast food restaurants. technically it is natural to eat chickens and fish b/c we've been doing it 4 centuries. but its not natural to stock up all our cattle and swine wit drugs and then eat them. its not natural or safe. once again, GO SEMI VEGETARIANS!!

camlyn50795 on 9/29/2009 2:43:15 PM

Thats actually a really good idea. My mom grew up in nc so shes used to a semi-vegetarian diet of only chicken and fish. And im fine with that. after seeing that movie super-size, i can only eat but so much pork and beef anymore. (even though burger king is soo tempting) GO SEMI-VEGETARIANS!!!!!

camlyn50795 on 9/29/2009 2:40:11 PM

Meat was provided to eat.

Animals were provided so that they could be killed, and we could eat them.

I like meat. I'm not the worlds biggest fan, and I don't eat as much as a lot of people, but I love anything with A1 sauce. lol

I believe that we should eat it in moderation as with everything else in the world, but people who go all "no meat" are a little bit crazy. You can't get all the nutrients you need anywhere else.

Go semi-vegetarians!!!!!!! You guys rock! Smile Smile Smile

cutierockerangel101 on 9/29/2009 6:59:15 AM

Ha cool... i considered it, but i love burgers.... the only thing i would eat is beef tho... no pork, chicken, or any other animal, and i would rarely eat fish. but today i made an oath that it would be my last day eating meat for a really long time (how convenient that i found this page hehe)
If any of you girls out there wanna work together on it, we can support eachother Smile

camel490 on 9/29/2009 12:41:18 AM

I would totally be a vegatarian but all of my fav foods have meat in them (exept, like, cake, or something.) I already don't eat pork and lamb, but I love steak (my dad's specialty), chicken (its a main ingredient in my fav food), and turkey (I use it to make my signature dish!) But I love veggie burgers and that kind of thing and fish and a lot of fruit and vegetables, as long as they are fresh. So, yeah. Smile

Miss~Piggy on 9/29/2009 12:26:16 AM

I want to become one, but parental units say no..);<

I'm a vegetarian. Not a vegan. I still eat fish, but that's it. Whenever i see a chicken nugget or bacon or something like that i think of the poor little cute animal that died, then i gag, grab some nuts or something, and walk away.
Really, nothing "made" me become one. I thought it would be cool, so i gave it a shot. it was difficult though because my mom would make chicken or pork meals all the time. i hated the smell, and i would make a salad or something.
I encourage people to try the lifestyle, but I don't force people to. It's their choice, they know what's best for them. I'm just glad it's gaining popularity now Smile it makes me happy.
Hahaha i could never be vegan. Cheeze and milk are the best things out there! Tong

sballgirly on 9/28/2009 11:16:46 PM

ive been a full vegetarian since i was a baby no one else in mi family is though so its really hardi dont like boca burgers but i lurvvvvvvve morningstars barbeque chicken wings (there soy)

sweetbelle2 on 9/28/2009 11:03:32 PM

That's cool! My family eats a lot of meat too (mostly chicken and steak, but sometimes pork). I mostly like eating meat, but sometimes I have thought about being a vegetarian. I don't think that I will, but I still think that it's a cool idea! Smile

ShopperSoccerGurl on 9/28/2009 10:05:16 PM

i'm vegetarian as well :] believe it or not this is either the 7th or 8th year and i've only cheated once out of all of those years! I'm proud of people who even just try it! It's an awesome lifestyle that gets stereotyped by "preachers/so called hippies".

pizzagirl543 on 9/28/2009 9:51:08 PM

pizzagirl543 on 9/28/2009 9:50:52 PM

i'm not at all like that, meat is really good for you (and tastes GREAT) as long as it's not really fatty, and fish obviously doesn't have too much mercury, or else no one would eat it, and it's also really good for you, it has omega 3. i grow up in a rural/farming community and my dads a farmer, AND the reason God put those animals on earth was to feed us, they HAVE a purpose.

ann-a-babe on 9/28/2009 9:49:59 PM

im a full vegetarian, meat is bad for you and fish can lead to mercury poisoning, chickens are injected with poison before they die and pigs teeth are cut out of their mouths

abercrombieluvr on 9/28/2009 9:12:02 PM

that's so true! i'm a vegetarian & it's important to stick by your lifestyle & not be influenced by your friends or family. NONE of them r vegetarians & they pick on me all the time about. i just shrug & say "oh well," cuz really it's their prob if they think it's weird to stop eating meat.

tammyakamiko on 9/28/2009 8:51:45 PM

i would but i love steak 2 much. im reading a book about fast food n it has alot bout animal cruelty. mayb ill change my opinion by the end of the book. i hav 2 finish half of it by weds. so i gotta read! i got like 2 chapters 2 go but there long. its Fast Food Nation if any1 wants 2 read. its alot bout mcdonald. who new the ppl who founded there own restaurant dont even own it anymore. they were run out of business by there very own restaurant. isnt that sad?

i_rock_big_socks!!!!! on 9/28/2009 7:54:29 PM

i could never not eat a burger again! it would be waaaaaaay to hard! of steak! but the number one thing that bothers me is when people are like "do you know whats really in the burger?" or whatever...its just like keep it to your self im trying to eat here! jeeeeeesh!

vana903 on 9/28/2009 7:48:02 PM

GO SEMI VEGGIES!!!!

iloveaerosmith on 9/28/2009 6:51:25 PM

i'm prob one of the biggest animal lovers in the world, and i totally support aspca, and all other animal groups, but i coudn't give up meat. i eat meat at least twice a week. and, meat is good for you, it's not bad for you. it's only bad if you eat too much of it. but good job all the vegiterrians, i know i couldn't do that.
