My BFF's dad is driving me crazy

My BFF’s dad drives me INSANE! Her parents are divorced and she spends weekends with her father. Weekends are the only time my bestie and I can hang out.

Her dad is mean, extremely judgmental and selfish. One time he took us shopping, and instead of letting me and my BFF browse, he made us spend the whole time picking out clothes for him!

He's also really overprotective of everything she does. I love my BFF but her dad drives me crazy. What do I do?

Hey Girlie,

It sounds to me like your stuck between a rock and a hard place. You can’t really tell your BFF that you don’t like her dad because, let’s face it, he’s her father and you don't wanna offend her.

Dealing with dad

Overcoming divorce is very difficult. Her pops most likely feels the need to be overprotective of his daughter because she’s his pride and joy, and he doesn’t get to spend much time with her.

For right now, I wouldn't approach either your BFF or her dad about the situation because it could seriously effect your friendship. It’s going to be hard, but you need to try to just accept how her dad the way he is. If you really feel like her father is having a negative impact on her, talk it out with a trusted adult and see what they suggest you do.

Remove yourself from the sitch...

The best way to solve your problemo? Try doing things outside of her house, so that you can spend quality time with your BFF instead of with her AND her dad. Invite her to sleepover at your place, have YOUR parents take you two shopping, go to a movie, or do something outside. You'll get to spend time with your girlie without the stress of her dad hanging around.

Stay supportive of her and your friendship and everything will work itself out. Good luck!

*****MOD***** I have a friend who really can be great. But here's the problem:She lies A LOT! She lied about having a cell phone (I found out while her mom was talking about that topic and how she wished she had one). She also lied about having problems with her teeth. She put these little disks (bingo chips) in her mouth and said they held her teeth in place. She forgot about them but now took it one step further. She put these plastic things in her mouth and said she went to the dentist, but the thing is...I had those same toys when I was younger. Plus, her case for them was one of those toys too. I tried gently to tell her a while ago before that that she has a tendency to lie, but she got really angry and asked for examples, but I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I only mentioned the cell phone. She denied having said that and now I don't know whhat to do. She can be great at times but I', sick of her constant lying to my face!

Hey girl,

Try to figure out why your friend keeps lying. Is it to get attention? Is it because she wants to impress people? Sometimes people lie just to joke around. There's not much else you can do if you've already tried to talk to her. You might just have to accept that this friend is one you only hang out with sometimes.

My best Friend McKinley her parents are divorced to and she goes to her dads on the weekends and we go to different schools so i cant see her on week days. Her dad is obnoxious and i cant stand it i just have to tell myself okay it is just a parent. Eventually i asked him why he was so difficult and there was no response, he also always made me leave and 7:00 when i slept over at her house. i see how you feel.

I know from expierience that divorce is not easy thing. One of the hardest things for me is switching houses my dad lives in the country and my mom lives in the heart of the city. I have had to miss so many parties 2 of them were my best friends parties. My dad is also overprotective. I know that it seems like you want to run into his face and be like LET US HAVE SOME PRIVATE TIME WILL YA but thats not always easy. What I would do is casually bring it up in a conversation about hangin out the weekend she is at her dads. If you say wait you will be at your dads right and then you explain why in a calm sencire way she might understand.

I have sisters, one is 14 another is 21 and I am 13.
My sisters are always taking my stuff and asking too much of me and treat me poorly.
I wake up in the morning not being able to change, brush my hair, and shave my legs because all the items I need to do that stuff are taken before I wake up. They say I don't have friends then bring their friends over and laugh at me (its not true though...)
I'm always called fat and ugly and stupid (I'm called stupid because, out of all the people in my family I'm the only one with natural blond hair not even my parents had blond hair) by them.
I'm always asked to help them find their stuff and help them get ready and much more. I can't do that when I hardly have time for myself and everything else and when I don't do what they ask they say they hate me and cuss at me. I'm always blamed on stuff too. What should I do!

Hey girl, I'm so sorry to hear about your sisters. That's way uncool of them. You should sit them down and talk to them. Tell them seriously what they do to you hurts. And if they don't listen? Talk to your 'rents about it, and they'll talk to them. You don't deserve to be treated like that. A fam should support its members, not tear them down. The good news though? Things can easily be changed -- you've just gotta speak up!

Hey girl, give it some time and see how your feelings cave out. It is totes easy to start liking someone because he starts liking you like that. But be careful, girlie. Think hard about it and go slowly. This guy has a reputation for asking out a lot of girls. Make sure you're not just another one.

Hey girl, I know it bites, but when a guy's going out with another girl, he's kind of off limits. Tell your friend to wait it out. Suggest she get to know other people -- preferably those who aren't taken by friends. It's never a good idea to date a friend's ex so she'll be better off meeting and getting to know someone who's single and sans that history or drama.

I have a similar issue to this one. My friend's dad is also divorced, and altho he is nice most of the time, sometimes i think he is a bit on the wacky side. for example, my friend and i play on our skl's field hockey team. Today, after the game, my friend's dad started grilling my friend about her mistakes during the game. Then, wen my friend went to go get something, her dad started TELLING ME how i'm only an "ok" player and that i need to be more agressive and work on other things! That made me so angry because, sure u can lecture ur daughter about it, but not her friend! He made me feel super bad, like I wasn't good enuff to make the team. What should I do if he tries to confront me another time?

Hey girl, I def know what that's like. The best advice I can give you is to grin and bear it. Say "Thanks Mr. Smith for the feedback." and leave at that. Be polite but don't add more fuel to a conversation you want to die out. When you can, find a chance to slip out and then laugh it off. You're fantastic. If it ever bothers you too much, talk to your 'rents about it too. They can always talk to him -- it'll be better coming from an adult so it won't seem disrespectful.

Okay so school is INSANE!{the homework part} I'm taking drivers ed and like EVERYONE is making comments how I NEED to study, i mean I want to, but it seems like there is NO time in the world to do other things with the crazy school schedule! Hey girl, having a less hectic school life all starts with getting enough sleep at home. Time management is the most important skill you'll pick up, so sit down each day and make a schedule for how you're going to fit everything in. What do you need to do today? What can wait until tomorrow? Pinpointing your priorities will allow you to keep your schedule from towering over you and work piling up all at once. Be sure to take a little time to do fun stuff too: whether it's watching your fave show or taking a run, it's important you balance so you don't burn out.

I was soooo excited for a pool party that was in my sister's college! It's in 2 days and I was inviting my bff and buying a new swim suit and everything!
I just got my period right now, and I'm so disappointed cause this is the 2nd time i miss it cause of my period :[
I'm too scared to use a tampon, cause i've never done it before and no one I know does use it..
I dont know what to do, because i had my hopes up so high!

Hey girl, just 'cause you have your period doesn't mean you can't go to that pool party. My suggestion is to still go -- just wear a cute pair of shorts and a bathing suit top. Periods mean you just can't swim but you can still have a good time. And if people ask? Just say you can't swim and leave it at that. Have fun, girl, and don't let your monthly get in the way!

Hey girl, when feelings start to fade, sometimes it's a good idea to take a step back and tell your guy 'hey, I really care about you, but I think we should take a break.' Hey girl, I know it may be hard but you've gotta take a deep breath. This guy isn't asking this girl out to hurt you and it's in no way deliberate. Chances are he just likes her and sadly, you can't stop or get in the way of it. My suggestion is to play it by ear. If he asks her out and they go together? Try not to be green with envy (it's WAY unflattering) and be happy that he's happy. Keep your eye out for that new cutie and even try to get to know this girl. Your girl enemy? She could end up being a good friend and if not, it never hurts to be polite. I know it's hard to move on from a guy but trust me when I say if it's meant to be, it will be. Just give it time.

he made you shop for him instead of leaving you two be? your best friend's parents shouldn't make you do things like that for them. i feel really bad for you-i wouldn't know what to do if something like that happened to me, but still-maybe hang out with your friend at school if you go to the same school, or just talk on the phone together. you should probably let their family figure out the whole divorce thing for a bit.
