No friends at my new school

 

I have been homeschooled my whole life and I recently started eighth grade at a private school. All the girls know each other, and they never talk to me. I try to be friendly and talk to them, but they just look at me like I'm crazy or something.


To make it all worse, I'm not like them at all! I have a completely different style, and I'm not a sports girl. My mom is making me do volleyball, which I hate. She says it will help me make friends, but it's not working. Sometimes the girls will say something to me, then I try to reach out, but I just can’t make any friends.


All of my friends live far away from me, and very few of them have internet, and lots of them can’t talk on the phone. I pretty much never get to talk to anyone outside of church or youth group.

Hey there hon, being different is nothing to be ashamed about. You should be proud to stand out from the crowd. After all, no one remembers girls who simply blend in. All you have to do is find some friends who accept you for who you are, which is awesome!


Do what makes YOU happy

First, you should be honest with your mom and tell her you’re just not that into volleyball. She will understand, especially if you’re not happy. Your mom really does have your best interest at heart—she wants you to make friends.


But the best way to make pals is to find girls who share some of the same interests as you. If you love the stage, join the drama team. If you can’t get enough of Twilight, join a book club. Most importantly, do what makes you happy—this way you'll make some pretty cool friends AND have fun.


Make new friends but keep the old

And as for your old besties, you’ll find some creative ways to keep in touch. Instead of e-mails, send handwritten letters. Yes, it’s a little old-fashioned, but it’s more personal. And maybe you can get together on the weekends for slumbies and movies. Best of luck, hon!

You might just be reaching out to the wrong group of girls. Join a club that interests you, the girls in it have at least one thing in common with you. You could probably find a few nice girls that you can keep a convo with and maybe make weekend plans.

Hey i have been homeschooled all my life 2. I went to a school this year and was pulled out becuse they did not teach me anything at all. I did not make any frineds there. But the school everyone in it lived nest door to each other. But it may take a few weeks to make a friend or two but by the end of the year you'll have lots of friends!!!!

im probably going to be moving to a new state within he next year and its going to be rly hard. pretty soon were going to visit a school there and i dont know how to act. i dont want to seem rude but i dont want to act like i want to be there and i definitly dont want to get depressed. any tips?

Moving is a huge adjustment! I did it when I was in middle school. Don't be rude when you are checking out your potential new school because if you end up going there you want to make friends. Try to smile and be friendly. If you are feeling a bit down just keep to yourself, but also keep in mind all the new experiences you are going to be able to have and all the cool new people you are going to meet. You'll be able to keep in touch with your friends via facebook and email and text, so you won't have to say goodbye forever. Chin up girlie!

MOD mod mod mod mod I just moved to a new state, a new town, a new school. I like it okay here, but I'm so depressed. I miss my old friends so much and nothing's the same here. Everyone has things to do on weekends and after school and I'm sitting at home crying. I'm just always so bored and sad and nobody cares. I've tried talking to my parents, but I'm more of a suffer-on-the-inside person. What should I do? I just want to go back home.

Moving is really tough. You feel like your torn in half because your body is in the new place, but your heart is still in the old place. Things will get better. You just have to give it sometime to adjust. In the mean time, try siging up for dance classes, or joining a club at your school. When you put yourself out there, you will start to feel more accepted and more at home!

okay so i did a really stupid bio project, and today was the turn in date. my project board is in the back of the class, waiting for me to explain it in front of the class.
i redid the experiment tonight, and i was wondering if there was a way i could explain to the teacher why i'm bringing in a different board a day after the turn in date.
im worried as to what she will say, considering i have had weeks to do this... :[

Hey girl, I don't know how your teacher will go for a complete redo but you could ask her if you could add it to your current project kind of as a Part 2. Explain your case. Each teacher is different, so you never know what she might say.

i have some guy questions. (i will number my questions). I like this guy. his name is andy. i talk to him all the time when we text. hey, i got a newcomer in my group and she keeps going off with this my friend randomly and talks to her all the time. A few of the girls in my group have noticed it also and are getting annoyed too. Whenever I asked why she goes off with this girl, she takes it the wrong way, she thinks im being clingy but I'm not! Really, it bugs me whenever anyone does that. Its really rude. Any ideas? My science teacher is always pairing me with this guy in our class who has ADHD that is really rude and really makes you just cringe when he walks into a room. He isn't even nice and chases people around the room with scissors.I know she pairs him up with me all the time because she knows I can handle him and do the work on my own but I don't think it's fair.Today he almost cut my hair off.She also refuses to send him out in the hallway or call his parents no matter what he does. What should I do?? This is affecting my grades--(I'm a straight A student) help!!

First, be proud of yourself for being able to be paired with this guy. Obviously your teacher respects you and thinks you are a great student. Second, talk to your teacher outside of the classroom or before or after class. She needs to know that working with him is affecting your grades and your productivity and you would like to be paired with someone else. If she doesn't listen to you then you should talk to your parents and have them talk to your teacher.

I got invited to this special boarding school in North Carolina. It's only 3 1/2 hours away. But my mom said she'd miss me too much and im scared to tell my friends. I'm willing to work really hard for the scholarship program they have but how do i convince my mom? i've tried that they have a 100% college acceptance rate. I've tried that it's an all-girls college (she refuses to let me date guys, or even look at them for that matter). I just can't think of any more good reasons she should let me go. Got any advice or reasons I might be able to use????

don't worry its always hard making new friends in a new school. why don't you try some club or sport you like so that way people get to know you and how you do in certain stuff. that way you will make new friends who have the same interest as you.

Hey girl, that sounds a li'l bit underweight but you know who will know for sure? Your doc. Talk to him -- it might be natural for your body frame (I know for plenty of my friends being a little underweight has been). As for your facial features, try going for a grey or silver eyeshadow. To even out your skin tone, you can also use some foundation or bronzer. Nail polish? Go for pink or red -- classic!
