A Week of Sheer Confidence

We’ve all had our moments when we shied away instead of taking charge. For one week I got rid of all my shy or timid characteristics and worked on being bold, to see just how awesome it would be to have sheer confidence.

In an effort to share my thoughts, like those confident girlies do, I tried to do my best to be outspoken in all my classes. I participated more and more and felt better about myself. I realized it was silly to hold back because of a fear of being wrong.

I changed up my outfits, too. Over the years I have developed my own style, not saying I don’t adore it, but I usually don’t try new things when it comes to my wardrobe. During the week, I dug out all those outfits that I had been too scared to wear. At first I was self-conscious of my new look but then I remembered I liked what I was wearing (that’s why I bought it!) and that was all that mattered. At the end of the day, it felt great knowing that I had put aside what other people thought.

Having this clearer look into myself I took the last step and brought my new found poise into my social life. For me, this was probably the hardest part. As far as my friends go, I am all about pleasing. I don’t want anyone’s feelings to get hurt and my way of making sure this didn’t happen was being passive in my relationships. This left me in the dust because I would end up being used and my kindness abused. After I spoke up for myself and told my friends how I felt I was amazed by the respect I received.

After living a week with a bright new attitude and a whole lot of confidence I will never go back to my old self. I love the positive image I have about myself and the respect I have been getting from others. I would highly suggest everyone trying out a week of sheer confidence!

Okay so at lunch I sit with these four girls. They are all softball players and never really talk to me. I try to talk but they never think what I say is funny or they never respond. Sometimes they give me weird looks. I know they're really nice and I can talk to them but outside of lunch. Like when it's at the lunch table, everything changes. I can't sit with anyone else because all the tables are full and thats where I have to sit. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Hey babe, maybe don't think so hard about what you're saying and doing with them and just go with the normal flow of the convo. If they're still ignoring you, try to seek out another group of girls who you think you could get along with and switch over to their table.

MODMODMODMOD hey well i have cool friends that r funny and stuff but sometimes i feel horrible when im with them. the person that i consider my best friend has other best friends and i always feel like im the 2nd choice but i dont want 2 tell her. im jealous of her other friends esp when she talks bout the fun things they do.another one of my bffs is...i dont know wat the word is...unreliable i guess.she will b so nice 1 sec & we'll make plans and the next she'll b making plans with some random person we r not even friends with, just a random person she barely talks to and of course they like her cuz everybody does. and our plans never even happen! sometimes its ok but sometimes it really hurts. its like shes the only person that can sit at every table at lunch but i still wanna b friends w/her. and she makes plans rite in front of me, ill be talkin 2 her and then,"hey fiona(random mean girl)lets have a sleepover 2morrow!"maybe she has a disease LOL..also sometimes she and my other friends put me down and that sucks and def lowers my confidence.my other friends r nice but we r not so close.plz help i have been crying myself 2 sleep sry this is so long

Hey girl! Try not to stress too much. Frienships can be really tricky. Just try to do your own thing and not feel too put down by your girls. It could be a great opportunity to branch out and meet some new chicks to hang with!

MOD!!!!!! I have a party tommorow and wanna straighten my hair. But, in this weather, my hair gets REALLY POOFY and FRIZZY (especially after a shampoo and blow dry , except, well at the salon). It's also very dry! I use L'oreal Anti-Frizz serum , but it doesn't help much. What else can i do with it?

this is totally random, but last year they combined 5th and 6th grade for almost the whole time and i met this girl.she had been coming to church for a while but we never really talked. i had seen that she had never had any friends so when she asked to sit with us during bible i said yes and ever since she has followed me around NONSTOP! the thing is is that she is kinda weird, and acts like she's in kindergarten.She always talks way to much and is pretty annoying. I moved up into the youth group in August, and she will be moving up next year and since they combine everybody that means I can't get away from her. i don't mean to sound mean or anything, but she doesn't let you breath. sorry this was so long

Hey girl, I know what that's like. When it comes to girls like that though, it's important to be polite. Introduce her to other people. Treat her the way you'd like to be treated. That said, don't be afraid to distance yourself. After she talks for a bit, tell her you've gotta go catch up with another friend but you'll catch up and talk to her later. Make sure you draw the line of when she should or shouldn't come and you'll be able to be nice and have a little breathing room of your own too.
