Does birth control help your period?

Birth control is a pill that stops ovulation. That means that an egg is not released from the ovaries.

There are many changes that the body may experience when birth control is taken. Periods can become lighter and more regular, a reason why some girls who have irregular or constant bleeding are prescribed birth control.

But birth control can also have side effects too, like weight gain, nausea, moodiness, and even in minor cases, chest and abdominal pains. If you think birth control is an option for you, talk to your parents and a doctor.

Well she needs to figure out what shes going to do. Whether it be an abortion or keeping the baby of giving it up for adoption. So i suggest you get her to tell her parents whats happened and go from there. Support your friend during this time, its going to be very difficult for her. My period is really heavy!! like one time i was wearing a superX tampon and i leaked after only about 2 hours! it's not that heavy all the time but i think more than average my mom doesn't know, but i also get bad back pain and cramps, what will help??

My period et really really REALLY heavy! What can i do? I've heard the birth control can make you gain weight...which isn't good because I'm a ballet dancer, and it's not an option...help!

Hey girl! Birth control reacts differently with everyones bodies. It won't necessarily make you gain weight. In fact, that may be a myth. It may make your PMS cravings higher,making girls snack more, and then gain weight. But just taking the pill and keeping your old habits shouldn't affect it. Talk with your doc about it, and do what would be best for your health!

since your mom had hers at 15, that's probably a good guess for you too. since you're starting to develop it might happen as early as six months to a year from now. Just keep being patient and let things happen in their own time!

my mom wants me to get it cause i have a type of cancer in my family and talking it can stop it from coming and i have only had my period once and i think i might want it cause it wont be irreguler.idk if i should get it cause of the side effects!!

i absolutely hate having my period. i get really painful cramps that are sometimes so bad, i can't even walk. even my most recent one, the ibuprofen i took before school didn't work! my flow isn't "heavy" but i find it a hassle having to make sure i didn't leak before i stand up. i gain like 5 pounds before my period and i feel really self-conscious about that. my period, also, usually will be within the same week (like one month it'll start the 8th, the next the 13th) but sometimes it'll skip a month, or start like the 20th. it's a pain in the heiny. should i talk to my doctor about going on the pill?

If its such a hassle, then i suggest you do talk to your doctor. They'll give you advice and help you decide if the pill is the right thing for you. Good luck! xoxo kerra

I guess birth control can have some bad side effects. But one of my friends who is on it because her parents said it would help her bad cramps and one of my very best friends who is on it because she has started having sex has never told me they wish they werent on it.

So for some of us, we may never have any problems from taking it and its a big help.

Does birth control make your breasts grow? And can you stop the weight gain it may cause? I might have to go on it because its been 2 1/2 years and its still TERRIBLY irregular!

Hey girl, birth control does not make your breast grow, but it will make you gain a li'l bit of weight (usually about five pounds, no biggie). Unfortunately, the only way to stop it is to get off it. Talk to your doc before you go on birth control. It's a big commitment and he or she and your 'rents should def be a part of your decision.
