Should I shave...down there?

 

My friends say they shave there pubic hair and I don't know what to do because my mom has never said I should.


I don't want to ask my mom because it's embarrassing.
 
What should I do?

Hey girl, when it comes to your growing body, there are some there's a thin line between things that are OK to say out and stuff that might be a big convo TMI. That said, when it comes to shaving down there, know it’s not something you have to do—in fact, a lot of girls and women don’t. Just 'cause your friends do it, doesn’t mean you should or need to do it, too. The best thing about your bod is you get to make your own (hopefully good!) choices about it.


Exercise the right to make your own decisions....

But when figuring out what to do about this sitch, ask yourself the following big Q: Are you comfortable with shaving there? Most women or girls do so during bikini season, but it’s getting cooler now. Is it necessary? If you think it is, crack out the razor and look for shaving cream for sensitive skin; your local drug or grocery store may have some shaving creams geared towards the bikini area. If it’s not for you, no biggie. In the end, what you do is no one’s business but yours, and it’s OK either way.


But don't be afraid to ask for guidance.

Remember, girlie, your bod’s going through a lot of changes right now. While stuff like this may be a li’l bit awkward, it’s important that you’re able to talk to someone about what’s going on. It may seem silly or embarrassing but believe me, your mom’s just there help. Don’t be afraid to reach out to her, your neighbor or even your guidance counselor or nurse if you need some advice on what to expect. All these lovely ladies have gone through all these changes and you can count on them as your go-to experts.


You’re one step closer to being an adult—inside and out. Sure it's time to make your own decisions, but don't be afraid to reach out to others along the way. Growing up’s your own journey, not your friends’—it’s all about the people and ride.

Mod whn should I talk to my mom about shaving down there i really get embarassed talking bout stuff Luke this to my mom I just don't know how I should approch her or what should I say to lead into it.

Don't worry -it's always awkward at first!  Why do you want to chat with her about this?  Do you want to ask her for tips or for permission?  If so, tell her that you think you would feel a lot more comfortable and you know it's a big commitment (my mom always loved to tell me that once you start shaving, you're gonna have to shave forever!), but you think you're ready to try it.  If you're just curious, say so!

I shaved my pubic hair once and it bothered me all day it was itchie and prickly is this norm if so is there anyway to help it not hurt so much. And I'm really embarresed to talk to my mom about this stuff it just makes me uncomfortable...

Yup, stuff like red bumps, itching, and prickly patches (that's just the shorter hairs that your razor couldn't reach) is all totally normal!  Make sure you: 1) use shaving gel, 2) PAT the area dry with a towel (don't rub!), and 3) use a fragrance-free lotion (like baby lotion) afterwards so it doesn't burn or get irritated.

If you cut yourself while shaving, then yes, Neosporin is probably a good idea to put on so you won't scar.

I don't shave down there. I wouldn't shave down there, If I were you. pubic hair grows back in very itchely.

I shave my pubic hair. I really want to stop because I know that it will just grow back longer and thicker. I wouldn't start if I were you. Wait til its time to wax because I am POSITIVE it is better than shaving. And slightly more painful...

hey girl i only shave down there in the summer but in the winter i dont really worry about it... but for when i do i bought this specail gel and razor at wal-mart im not sure what its called but you can probably find it anywhere.

You know how sensative that area is so I wouldnt be shaving all up and in there. There are chanses that you could cut yourself. Just be proud to be growing up and exept you pubes.

Is it mainly just us who shave down there or do guys also shave down there? I know some guys do because we talked about it in health and for other reasons I know but it just seems like we are the ones who usually do it. That doesnt seem fair but that is just my thought.

I have this weird habit that I formed two or three weeks ago to chew my lips whenever and now my lips are getting all chapped and sore. I always use chap stick, but it comes right off. Or it feels weird. I tried stopping but can't! What are the reasons people bite their lips and how do I stop?




Hmm try thinking about why you're chewing your lips? Is it a nervous habit? Are you thirsty? Are you hungry? Are you thinking really hard about something?

To try and stop you could drink water whenever you feel the need to chew your lip, or try holding a conversation with someone for a while. You could also try chewing gum.  If your lips are chapped keep applying moisturizing lip balm.  That should help Smile

MOD!!! hey i have really busy mornings so i have to shower at night which works out fine except when i wake up in the morning, my hair is really oily. is there anything i can do or any product that i can use to make my hair not oily in the morning??? please help! thanks so much! Smile

 

Hey girl! You could try something like leave in conditioner, it hydrates your hair, which may cute back on some of the oil in your hair. You could ask a hair specialist if there is anything that you could use in the morning.

I am so used to shaving down there it seems more normal for me not to have hair down there than to have hair. And based on my talks with friends most of them either shave it all off like I do or shave a lot of it.

And if you are just starting make sure you use a mirror and after a while you will get used to knowing just where and how to shave down there.

Hey babe,

start out with about 50 sit ups, 20 push ups, 20 lunges on each side and ten minutes of jumping jacks. From there you can figure out which areas you need to work harder on and how much more or less exercise you need.

mod mod mod mod mod mod mod mod mod mod mod okay so i live with my stepmom and dad. my stepmom only wears pads during her periods so i have to use pads too. i have asked her about tampons before, cuz like my mom, im a heavy bleeder, and she just said that they are for old women who have lost their virginity. I know this is not true and they dont make u lose virginity. what can i do? I dont want to go behind her back and buy them myself, and ive tried explaining before why i want them. help!! i dont like staining my clothes

I tried to shave my bikini line about 3 hours b4 I went 2 the cottage and I cut down there and I HURT SO BAD. I had 2 put on a band-aid because of the bleeding. But I'm ok now. When I first got pubic hair I shaved it off and it was itchy, I only shaved it tho because I didn't know what was happening. Comment on my profile!

MOD! Guy problem: About a month ago, I admitted to a guy that a liked him, but he said he didn't really feel the same way. But, for the last week or so, he's been really flirty so I asked if he still felt the same way and he said "I don't know right now." Hey girl!  You shouldn't start a relationship unless you're sure that you like this guy.  Do you like spending time with him?  Does he make you smile and laugh?  Does it brighten your day to see him?  If you're saying no or not sure to any of those q's, you should rethink your plan.  Before you become official with anyone, try going on a few dates first.  When the time comes, you can ask your parents if you're allowed to go out one night.  When they ask who's going, let them know it'll be you and a guy.  If they're alright with it, then great!  If not, try to see if they'd be alright with letting you go on a group date instead.  Best, Kristen

Hey girl, try eating fruits and veggies and drinking lots of water and natural fruit juice. Do lunges, jumping jacks, sit ups and push ups. Jogging and running helps too! Smile
