So here’s the sitch: it’s your bestie’s b-day. You’ve got the perf prezzie, but you’re looking for that extra something special to give her day a super personal twist. Stop right there, girlie, before going for the store-bought card.

The best gifts come from the heart and we’ve got three très chic ideas for homemade cards that are a work of art!  

Magazine Maven

  Give a back a bit. Grab a stack of your fave old magazines and cut out images that remind you of your pal. Not only is it eco-cool, but it’s a great way to show your BFF how much you know 'n' love her. Whether it’s for her b-day or fave holiday, use pics of clothes and celebs that match the personality of your super sweet friend. Arrange the snaps as a collage on the front of the card—complete with cut-out letters screaming “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” Oh, and be sure to add a pic of her with her fave celeb, too! Talk about a dream come true (well, almost!).  

Gallery Girl  

Give your card a li'l action and draw your friend a comic. The sitch? It’s your friend’s birthday, and she’s got to save the day. Channel your inner Picasso and have a blast drawing fun action panels on the front of the card. How to? First divide out each panel with a ruler, sketch each pic with a pencil, and then ink and color your card panel-by-panel. Sure, it’ll take a li’l time, but your card be one action-filled gift she’ll want to keep forever!  

Computer Chick  

Tech-savvy? Make your bestie's card on a computer. Grab images of her and her buds (Facebook albums, much?) and use a program like Word or Publisher to arrange the page layout of the perf custom card. Some programs even have templates to get you started. Be sure to experiment with fonts and colors to tie everything together.  

What’s Inside Counts  

Remember that no matter how stellar the outside of your card is, it’s what inside that counts. Write your pal a note telling her how much she means to you. Bring up the inside jokes you have. Talk about how valuable her friendship is and what makes the two of you work. Kinds words will make your girl smile AND they'll stick around long after the candles are blown out and her presents are unwrapped!

I always make my own cards! I have my own family card company, RD, and my parents actually PAY me to make cards! So fun! I use cardstock, stamps, pics, pens, markers, ribbon....anything! Love this idea because as one stamp of mine says: "Handmade with love"

Okay so my BFF and I have been friends since 2nd grade but now she's not that much of a (good) friend. She always gets her way at home and stuff but it's hard for me to say no to her. And my other friend Anna was going out with this one guy.(We'll call him John) So while John and Anna we going out, my other BFF texted John and said stuff like; I love the way you walk, I love the way you look at me, I love the way you make me laugh, I love the way you say my name. Hey girl!

My best friends are there for me no matter what. And they never judge! If I make a mistake, they are willing to forgive me. That's how I know. Plus, we have a TON of fun together.

I had to change churches, and I don't really know anyone there. The people I've "met" are pretty nice, but there are some people I want to talk to but I don't know how to break the ice. Whenever I go up to someone and say something like "Hi, my name is __", it gets pretty awkward. Do you have some advice for breaking the ice with guys and girls?

my bff has a very different reliougn than me and out of the 4 years ive known her, she's never been 2 my house and we have never had a sleepover. it really hard cause we can only hang out at school cause her 'rents and restrictive. HELP!

Try hanging out at school and go to the movies or mall if you can't go to each others houses! Let her know you want to be close with her and that you'd like to hang out more often! Maybe she'll talk to her parents about it!

Another idea - for my last birthday, my friend printed out a bunch of pictures of me that she had taken or gotten off Facebook. There were all these pictures of me with friends or doing stuff I loved. She put them all together in a collage on a piece of cardboard and gave it to me. I have it hung up in my room still!

Hey girly, you could get them purses(maybe the same one in different colors), jewelerey or friendship bracelets. Just shop around in New Orleans and check different things out. Have fun on your trip!

OMG! I make cards for my BFF and I take funny pics of celebs and arrange them on Microsoft Word and write hilarious sayings on them. She seems to like them more than the actual presents!!!

Hey Girl, there is no reason for anyone to be mad at anyone else, you were just joking around! You should definitely get her a present, I think it would really mean a lot to her! Visit your local craft store. A cool idea would be to take a picture of you and your BFF and place it in a plain picture frame. Paint the frame lime green (her fave color) and decorate it with her fave things! Totally cute! We love "do it yourself" projects!

My "friend" e-mailed me this message about my boyfriend and her. Yeah, it's true, she used to date him, but when you read this message, it doesn't seem like she's jealous at all. I called her and didn't get a message, and my phone is charging now, so I'll try again soon, but I need some advice. I personally want to be her friend, but every now and then, she'll get super mad because my boyfriend does something a little mean. I know he does, but he's my first boyfriend and he says that the first chance he gets, he's gonna make sure I have my first kiss.
Before, she said she'd give him however many chances, and I told her that a real friend wouldn't do that. She got mad, blah blah blah.... back to the point. I'm e-mailing her about it now as well, but I don't know what to say. I want to be her friend, but not if she keeps this up. I don't want to choose between her and Nathan, because I love Nathan, way more than my mom thinks I do.
Any advice on this?

Today, about half of the 7th grade went to an assembly (tomorrow the other half is going). We had this line thing that everyone stands on two separate lines and if u agree with a problem, step into the center or something. The questions consisted of "have you ever had a friend who let you down in a huge way" "have you ever been made fun of because of {such n such}". I cried a lot because they brought memories back. People looked at me and wanted to comfort me; even if they didnt, i saw it in some peoples eyes. I even looked at my best friend and she saw me crying but she started laughing, standing next to my other friends, but i saw that they didnt want to laugh. After school, people saw me and gave me hugs and a lot of people told me that they would comfort me if i needed it. But i'm kind of worried that people will start talking about it and looking at me weird tomorrow because normally, im a very happy person and people do not look at me like the crying type. What do i do if people do that though? thanks mod

um I have a LOT of friends in the grade above (8th) and i know tons of people and they kno me. My friends in grade 7 are sorta....kinda....REALLY mean to me, except like 5 of them (its a pretty big group of friends). Oh, just to point out, im not popular and neither are they. anyways, I really really like my friends in 8th grade, but next year theyre goin into high school and the year after that, im going to a diff high school than a bunch of them. i can still hang out with them on the weekends or something, but in the meantime i want nicer friends at school. You can try talking to your friends about how they're treating you and calling them out on their behavior or you can try to make new friends in your own class. You have some friends that you get along with, so I think you'll be okay even if don't do either.

ive made all these kinds of cards before.....they're so cute and my bff saves them each year, so i love to see how much we've changed over the years when the card has pics of us!!! ;D and this year she made me a bracelet and put it in a little box. so i made her a bracelet and decorated the same box, so it looks super cute! so now we have a tradition of making each other a piece of jewelry, etc. and give it in the little box! i know thats random but watever!

MOD I love my BFF. We have so much fun when we hang out together. But when we hang out in a group with some of our other classmates, it seems like she barely listens to me, ignores me, and doesn't even notice I'm there!
