5 Tricks to Make Your Halloween Healthier

 
We're not gonna spook ya and say you should avoid candy this Halloween (hey, it only happens once a year and who doesn't love a caramel apple?). But we do a have a few fab tricks if you're trying to stay healthy. Have fun, sweeties!

1. Get in Some Easy Exercise
Sure, you're probably runnin' around putting finishing touches on your costume but why not take a break for a sweat sesh? Our fave Halloween-inspired workout? Pumpkin pick-ups.

Warm up for five minutes and then start jogging. When you get to a house with a pumpkin on the porch, sprint--until the next house with a jack-o'-lantern outside. Repeat for 20 minutes, then do a five minute cool down.

2. Be Picky
This year, have discerning taste when it comes to the candy bowl and your pillowcase filled with treats. Hate Tootsie pops? Give 'em away or just avoid 'em--you don't have to eat every goodie ya get!

3. Eat Before You Go Out
Whether you're going to a scary film fest at your BFF's or trick-o-treating with your sibs, make sure to have a healthy meal before ya head outta the house. You'll fuel your bod with needed nutrients and it'll make it easier to pass on those Sour Patch Kids.

4. Stash those Seeds
The insides of a pumpkin are super-nutritious (those itty-bitty seeds are loaded with the mineral magnesium and help with bloating when you have PMS). Check out our fave recipe and then sprinkle them on your salad.

5. Floss!
All this sugar can be rough on your pearly whites. Brush and floss before you go to bed (don't forget to rinse after). And get in the habit of flossing nightly--you might even live longer because of it (a study showed folks who floss live 6+ years longer than those who don't). Plus, it'll help keep your teeth lookin' amazing.

MOD For about a month now i have been follwing your healthy you program - but only in the "eats" section. I want to do the workout parts too, but i feel really self consious whenever my parents see me working out. I also want to get a workout buddy to help me stay accountable and stuff, but i would feel really wierd asking that. What can I do to get over my shyness about exercizing? p.s. i even feel weird about running in my nieghboorhood, because i'm afraid someone will see me. haha Help?!? Thanks - KT

 

Hey girly, you don't have to be embarassed to work out. Everyone does it. And who said there was something wrong with a gal tryna be healthy? Ask one of your pals to join you. You guys could head to a gym or the park after school or on the in the morning on the weekend. And ask your 'rents to join in too. Tell them you trying to get healthy and ask them to buy healthier foods. Hope this helps ya! Smile

1. Go trick-or-treating with your buds or younger sibs.

2. Cuddle up on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn and watch scary movies.

3. Have or go to a Halloween party.
4. Stay at home and hand out candy to the little trick-or-treaters.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD The other day I woke up to severe cramping in my upper calf. It hurt so much I had to miss school because I couldn't even walk. It still hurts and I almost collapsed trick-or-treating. Is there anything I can do to make the pain go away or anything I can do to prevent it in the future? HELP!!! -Brit

 

Hey girl, just to be on the safe side, ask your 'rents to take you to the doc. I'm sure they'll know exactly what's wrong with your leg and give you some medicine to ease the pain. Smile

If you're not into sports with balls you could try swimming or track or dance, but any sport you try is going to require you to get into pretty good shape. It's on of the best things about sports - you get in great shape while having a lot of fun!

Talk to your mom about why you want to start exercising and see if you can convince her that you want to do it for healthy reasons. Then you'll be able to run without having to hide it.

I'm a track runner and I need to get plenty of aerobics working my legs but it's getting cold and I can't jog my usual three miles a day. Do you have a good workout I could use indoors that is advanced???

There are plenty of dvds for tae bo workouts that will be good cardio. You should also try jumping rope. It really works the muscles in your legs and is great cardio.

ok so i've been sick for almost 2 weeks now with swine! im sooooooo bored! i have makeup work but i cant focus on it.....thats not the prob though. idk what to do!! i've been watching tv for like 2 weeks now and im so bored with it. i tried reading but i cant get into my books. is there anything for me to do??? i've been through GL like a million times.
also, i was going trick-or-treating tomorrow then i was going to my friend's halloween/bday party but i cant anymore cuz im too sick. i feel really bad and im gonna be so bored! my mom said that she would get my bro and i a "special treat" cuz we're both sick but still. what can i do to have a better halloween?
