I recently found out about a chance for me to go to a boarding school. I think it sounds like a great opportunity and it's something that I'm considering (my parents are thinking about it, too). There's just one little problem...it's about five states away from where I live now! I don't know how I feel about moving away from EVERYTHING I'm used to for a whole year (well, except for holidays, but that's beside the point).
I'm really just asking for the opinion of someone not really involved in the situation. What do you think? Do you think it'd be worth it? What could I do to adjust if I do decide to attend? Thanks!

Wow, this sounds like an awesome experience. I know it's a lot to consider, so grab a pen and paper and jot down a list of pros and cons. Would you be happier sticking at home with friends and fam? Or are you more of an adventurer who loves being exposed to new places and situations? Talk it out with your BFF, your mom and your teachers. Visit the school and see if it feels right for you. Talk to students and professors on campus. Do the best research you can before making the decision.
Take a risk!
Sometimes the only way we figure out who we really are is by moving out of our comfort zone. Yeah, boarding school is a big move, but it's also a something that could really build character. I think you would learn a lot about yourself, have great experiences and probably make some great friends if you choose to go away to school.
Stay in touch
With the internet and cell phones, it's easy to stay connected with everything you love about home. Download Skype and videochat for free on the internet with your parents, friends and Fido, too. Sign up on Facebook so you can keep in touch via wall-to-walls and messages. This gives you the chance to read updates from home, and they can read updates about you.
Start a care package exchange with your friends. Every month you send them a letter and something personal, and they can do the same for you. You could make each other mixed CDs, send photo clips of Taylor Lautner (hottie!!!) or a really good book you just finished. If you do go away, ask the 'rents for unlimited texting for your bday or a holiday present. This way you'll have the freedom to contact your chicas with big news, or a simple "I'm thinking about you."
This sounds like a great opportunity, and there are plenty of ways to stay connected with friends and family while you are gone for the year. My advice is to do what feels right for you. Think everything through and maybe write a few journal entries to see how you feel. Good luck!
