Never know how to act at a party or wish you knew those secrets that would make everyone (especially your super-cute crush) notice you? We’ve got five foolproof tips on how to get tons of compliments, meet new people and grab the attention of that guy you've been eyeing forever.

Dress the Part

Ruffles, metallics, neons, fishnets—add somethin' extra to every ensemble. Creative combos like a little black dress and some shiny leggings will draw people in to compliment your outfit and kick-start your mingling. Unique pieces, like your grandmother’s necklace or a vintage tee are great conversation starters, so you’ll never be at a loss for what to talk about.

Make an Entrance

All eyes are on you when you walk into the party, so it’s important to look your best as you walk through the door. This can be the scariest part, so remember to take a few deep breaths before you head on in. Stand with your shoulders rolled back, head held high and back straight. Smile when you walk in and greet everyone you know. Your friendly, confident attitude will make you look comfy and guests will gravitate towards you.

The Eyes Have It

Confidence is one of the most attractive things to guys, and it all starts with fierce eye contact. Try using a colored eyeliner along your bottom lid to really make your peepers pop. Once you’ve got killer eyes, keep everything else pretty natural. Emphasize your cheekbones with a liquid blush or bronzer. If you're feeling super-daring, go for a bold look with bright red lipstick to draw attention to your mouth. Your crush will be so focused on you and your lips, he won’t notice anyone else at the party.

Strike Up a Convo

Mingle, mingle, mingle! Strike up simple small talk with the people standing around you. Find out where they go to school, what kind of music they're into, what their holiday break plans are, if they’ve ever traveled anywhere cool.... Friendships and relationships all start with the standard "getting to know you" talk, so get gabbin'.

Get Happy

The more you smile, the more people are going to want to hang with you. No one approaches the girl with a frown, so paste a grin on that pretty face and walk around. Everyone loves a chica with a sense of humor, so don’t be afraid to laugh at a funny joke (and feel free to makes some yourself!). Nothing says “I love myself” more than a smile and positive attitude.

ok i have a guy friend and we have known each other forever, we go to diff schools now so we only see each other maybe like 3 times a month...i REALLY like him and i kinda want his cell phone number because i dont have it yet. Is there a way to ask without sounding creepy or making it obvious that i like him?
P.S idk if he likes me because i was at this meeting thing with him and i had to sit next to him and he wanted me to be in his group and then i was holding open one of the doors and he held open the other so we sat next to each other later and i know he used to like me when we went to school together...thanks!

we don't wear dresses to our school dances, they end when school ends,all you do is stnad around in the gym, or sit on the bleachers, and if you're in 7th grade, you won't ever have true love until you're at least 16, but most likely when you're out of college.

Ummm brown or something funky like purple or green. Not brown though. I dont wear different eyeliners so that is pretty much the extent of my knowledge. xo JANA

MOD- so i am confused, i use black,mac, pencil liner but when i use a colored liquid liner do i still use the black eyeliner. and another question, how do you put liquid liner on? thanks! -birdie

Hey missy, nope when you apply colored eyeliner you don't need to use black eyeliner. The trick to putting liner on is to take your time. Stand in front of the mirror and pick which eye you wanna work on first. Close your eye, and take the lencil and slowly glide across your botton or top lid. It will take a couple trys before you get it right, but keep working at it. Your eyes will be popping in no time soon.

MOD!! what color of eye shadow and lipgloss would make my face pop most? I have brown eyes (sometimes chocolate, sometimes more hazel) and olivy skin.

Hey girl, if you wanna go dramatic, smokey grays are always best. I have olive skin too and for dramatic shadows, I always opt for a bronze-y brown (preferably with some gold flecks). Also a coat of mascara works wonders too. As for lipgloss, go for a deeper rose rather than light pinks and nudes.

I have green eyes that change shades of green depending on what I am wearing. I have fair skin and blonde air. What a fun project! This just requires some research. Hatshepsut had golden skin, so go for some gold shimmer shadow. Plus dark lipstick. Thick black liner is a must! Then maybe tease your hair to het it big and bold. Best,

First off, thank you for all you do!
Okay, so Friday after school there was a school dance, and my boyfriend couldnt come because he said that he had already promised to help out with a church fall festival. So later on that night, he got on Facebook and said he had just watched Paranormal Activity, which got me a little suspicious, b/c i didnt think hed have enough time to help out at the festival and watch a movie, b/c it was only like 10 pm. Later on that night, a friend told me that the church fall festival was Saturday, the next day! It really hurt me that he would lie to me like that. I decided to text him, (but i didnt bring up the lying) and when i commented on how the dance was boring, he chose that moment to randomly stop texting me, which made me feel worse and more suspicous. So yesterday, he got on facebook and i brought up the subject of him lying, he said he didnt lie, he had to set up desserts and tables. I wouldve believed him, but then he logged off as soon as he sent it! I made me feel horrible, he hasnt done anything like this before. But afterwords, i think he sent me something, but it didnt show up in my chat. so when i looked back through her conversation, i saw he sent "oh, so youre not going to talk to me? Whatever." and logged off! Now i think that he thinks im really mad at him and very stuck up. I tried texting him to resolve things, but he wouldnt text back. What do i do? Do I apologize? Should i believe him or do you think he was lying? Help! (P.S. he hasnt done anything like this before, and i still really really like him so i really dont want to break up with him unless you think thats my only option)

I think that if this is the only time, then you two just need to talk it out. But my impression when reading about your scenario was that in a healthy relationship, he should not lie to you and you should not be feeling insecure and untrusting of him. You did nothing wrong, but if you feel this way, that's almost a warning sign, in my opinion. Try to go on a fun date to rekindle the tense aspects of your relationship. Good luck! Best,

You should be cute but comfortable. If you have a cute patterned skirt you should wear that with a solid colored shirt. As for your hair, take a front section of your hair and braid it a bit and pin it back, its a very pretty way to keep your hair out of your face. Not to mention the braid will look precious as for makeup you should go light and just wear brown eyeliner and mascara to compliment your fair skin, but not wash it out like black liner would. have fun! xoxo kerra

MODMODMOD~~~ This might seem like a silly question, but I'm just a little worried. I'm in eighth, and I have this thing with seventh graders, and I think they're all so cute!!! This one kid, Nate, is one of my best sevvie friend, and I love him so much(not bf/gf way though). Today was the Middle School Dance, and I was teasing him, and when he turned around to call his mom, I checked out what he was wearing, and I noticed how small his legs were, and I was thinking, "awww!!!" He turned around and it looked like I was either looking at his butt, or checking him out, and he gave me this freaked out look, and like, left the dance area to play video games.... I'll probably bump into him on Monday, so should I just go about as if it never happened, or should I give him space? At the time, I found his expression hilarious, but through my cracking up, I didn't get to explain why I was looking at his legs...

Hey if you acted strange on Monday, it would just make things between you guys more akward, so when you see him in the hall treat him like you normally would. And if you feel you need to explain to him you were looking at his legs not anything else. P.S. there's nothing wrong with thinking seventh graders are cute, because they are.

I'm so confused! I liked this boy and he liked me, then my friend says he told her he didn't like me anymore. I was just like, whatever, no big deal. Then my other friend (who is really good friends with the boy) said he still likes me and only told my friend he didn't to annoy her! I'm not sure if I should be mad at him for lying or not...
