IN THE NEWS: Processed food leads to depression

Ever reached for Cheez-Its or Swedish Fish when you’re bored or bummed out? Not only are these snacks packed with calories, but new research shows there is a link between processed foods and depression.

Participants in a study were divided into two groups. One group ate a diet of highly processed food like lunchmeat, fried foods and high fat dairy. The other group was on a nutrient-rich diet, which included vegetables, fish and fruits. After five years, they were asked to fill out a survey about their depression. The people who ate processed food were more likely to be depressed than those who ate a diet of whole foods.

Antioxidants and way-healthy omega-3 fatty acids found in the whole foods diet could be a possible explanation for the results. Either way a balanced, nutritional diet with fresh food is the best way to stay healthy and be happy.

Blog it out...What do you girlies think? Do you ever feel depressed after eating lots of greasy food? Does your body love when you eat lots of fruits and veggies?

Hey,
Are they sure those people they tried it out on didn't have like something drastic happen to them in the past year or whatever? Cause processed food doesn't make me depressed even though my body loves it when I eat healthy. But I'm not a health freak so I don't know.

Well, I know the intentions were good, but I think they didn't do the actual testing very well. I mean, we all eat fatty foods once or twice, and they're making it sound like even if you eat a little bit of fatty food, your gonna get depressed, which isn't true. And we don't know what the point is of starting to get depressed, since they did only an all fat diet.
But with the people they tested on, what if they seriously effected their health?? What if the people started getting heart-attacks or strokes?? Or they only ate fatty foods for the rest of their life and never excercised?? They need to think just a tad bit more, even though they are nutritionists, scientists, or watevr

MOD MOD MOD!!!
How long should I hold a wall sit? What are some good ab stretches? Thanks!

Hey girlie,

Do the bicycle where you alternate moving the opposite arm and leg away from each other while laying on the floor in a ball position. Or crunches. Lunges are also great for your legs, butt and abs. Try doing the plank for one minute or holding a wall squat for the same amount of time.  Repetition is more important than time.

MOD****MOD****MOD****MOD
plz help
ok so do you know any ways to get fit (and a little thinner) by christmas? And i'm pretty healthly but i usaully don't get motivated easly

Hey babe,

It's all about motivation. Work out with a family member or a friend. Go for walks, do snow sports, go running, swim, try exercise videos like Tae-Bo or go to yoga. Make sure that you are eating healthy and stay about from fatty and fried foods. Drink plenty of water because it's easy to confuse thirst for hunger.  And make sure that you are getting enough sleep!

MOD!!!
i'm going on a foriegn vaction over the christmas break. where there going to be a lot of buffets, and some people gain alot of weight as a result (like 10-20 pounds) how can prevent my self from gain too much weight and still eat some of it. (after all i'm on vaction)

Hey babe,

Be active on your vacation through swimming or skiing or other activities that might be involved. And eat in moderation. Don't let your eyes be bigger than your stomach and don't eat only the junkie food at the buffet. Don't stress too much though because let's face it, you're going to be on vacation and you can always lose the extra weight when you get home.

aqua girl on 11/9/2009 9:43:48 PM

that is weird, but it does make sense, because if i eat alot of junk food i feel bad too.

aqua girl on 11/9/2009 9:38:42 PM

Ya I do it too when I'm bored, but not as much as when I was younger. There is more to life then eating. DON'T EAT AWAY YOUR LIFE!

Check out my profile; I give the best advice!

God Bless!

Abriella123 on 11/9/2009 9:22:14 PM

Yeah, I feel a lot better when I'm eating healthy than when I'm eating junk food. I think it has to do with the self-esteem that you get when you treat yourself right! But sometimes if I'm in a bad mood, a cookie or some chocolate CAN make me feel better! Haha I'd better work to break that habit...

ShopperSoccerGurl on 11/9/2009 9:16:11 PM

MOD MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!
I’m scared to use tampons. Does the 1st time you use them hurt, even if you insert them right? If I insert it wrong the 1st time, is there any damage it can cause?

Hey babe,

It won't cause any damage. Follow the instructions in the box. Also, try tampons with applicators that are much easier to insert. For more info, check this out: http://www.girlslife.com/hub/periods-period.aspx

im-a-dancer on 11/9/2009 5:07:06 PM

Ya, I haven't eaten something from McD's in FOR-EV-ER!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a plescitarian as of a few weeks ago, so I eat fish, but no poultry or red meat. Last night I had Tofurkey, Tofu Turkey (competely vegetarian meal) it tasted just like turkey.

Also, I got these cool capris over the summer and after a few months they didn't fit! After being plescitarian for a few weeks, the capris fit again! It is probably both from being plescetarian and from being healthier overall... although I just ate some banana bread

cassieann23 on 11/9/2009 4:44:27 PM

interesting....
note to self- be happy, eat less junk(:

horseloverhgv on 11/9/2009 4:39:11 PM

Every day I have the same routine. I eat a really healthy breakfast and not much for lunch so I'm starving when I get home. I eat a lot of unhealthy food then, and I've noticed that I become very lazy and unfocused as a result. I see the a bigger difference in my efficiency than in my mood, but it's definitely not good too eat sooo much junk food.

westcoastchick on 11/9/2009 3:51:33 PM

Wow. I guess I can see that. I'll have to try to cut down on junk food.

photographynut2008 on 11/9/2009 3:46:18 PM

GO VEGETARIAN! For more info, request it at my profile Smile
Save the animals, be healthy, and stop global warming by going vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian for a year and 5 months. What is it? A vegetarian is when your diet contains no meat. How does it save animals? It obviously helps to stop the slautering of animals such as cows and chicken. How can you eat them when they are so cute (they are your friends). How does it improve your health? It cuts out lots of fat and chlosteral and records show that vegetarian have a lower risk of obesity and diseases.Plus, reduces your chance of diseases and cancer. How does it stop global warming? Lots of energy is used in meat factories and butchering. The factory also creates pollution. It also kills trees so there is room for farms that kill animals for profit. Please help and go to petakids.com or my profile! Thanks for reading this! -Aubrey
