I have no friends. I’d do anything for one good friend. I don’t want to sit alone at lunch.

People say, “Just talk to someone,” but it’s not that easy.

Dear Friendless,

It’s not that easy, but it’s not impossible either. Try these suggestions.

#1. Notice if there is anyone new in school who may not have lots of friends yet and ask what she misses about her old school and likes about this one.

#2. Say hi to at least four girls each day and try starting a conversation by saying “That test was hard, didn’t you think?” or “Want a piece of gum?” or “Did you hear that…?”

#3. Join ballet, jazz ensemble, science club, yearbook, lacrosse, tap dancing, something!

#4. Call someone at home and ask about homework. Talking on the phone can be easier than in person, and you can even scribble a few conversation topics down ahead of time—I’ll never tell.

It takes courage, but if you are friendly (not clingy), and if you get to know people and let them know you, you will make friends. Keep noticing which girls seem happy to talk with you (versus the ones who act like they’re doing you a favor) and which make you laugh (versus the ones who make you feel stupid). Then don’t hang around the stuck-up crowd—even if they are considered popular.

there's this girl who's in my period 6 and 7 classes who i'm not friends with, but she has no friends and i feel bad so i talk to her. but she's annoying and (i hate to say it but its true) unpopular. i'm not the kind of girl who judges people like that, but its hard u know? and she is pretty clingy...
she tries to talk to me in the ways described, but when i answer, she goes, "i'm bothering you rn't i? you don't like me, do you?" and other things. i'm amazed that she can be so brave, but i make up excuses that r true like "no i just hate it that we took that test i think i failed" if that's wat she had just talked about.
also, she says "its my birthday!" and i go "happy birthday!" and she's like "isn't it weird saying that cuz we're not rly friends" and "r u my friend?" i shrug. "r u my aquaintence?" and i say ya i guess and she says "oh ya cuz u don't really know me...but we will be friends!"
i don't want to make her feel bad, but don't want to be friends with her...I have a whole trimester of school left! my other friends just shrug and walk away when they see her, but i try 2 be nice. people make fun of her too...

Mod *I need advice. One of my best friends is such a... I can't really explain. But she acts like she is better then everyone else, and she screamed at me and called me some stuff because I put her shoes on top of one our schools vending machines when we were decorating our school. When she had left them in the middle of the hallway. So I picked them up and put them there because 1- I thought I was being nice, 2- We always do stuff like that to each other. And it turns out that she had called her mom and told her she lost her shoes and her mom grounded her and took her phone away, so she blamed me for it and called me some more names. My other best friend who was there was like "Chill out she didn't know. Its not that big a deal." I really don't know what to do because she is making me make the sound "UGH" so much lately. And she ALWAYS comes to me for the answers to our homework and is always asking me to help her because I am smarter then her..which I don't like saying because it makes me seem like the one with the problem...but I really want to know what to do so bad!!!! Help ME!!!!!!

Hey girly, talk to her. I'm sure your friend has no clue of how she's acting, so you need to let her know her behavior is affecting everyone around her. Tell her how she's changed and how she is hurting your feelings. Your friendship is too special to break it up without trying to work at it, so talk to her.

Don't worry, i don't have tht many friends either. I have one best friend and she is awesome! really all you need to do is start hanging out with one girl that has similar likes and dislikes as you. sometimes we don't agree but we get over it.

Hey girl, it's frustrating that people are spreading rumors, but if you show people that those rumors aren't true, they'll see you for who you really are. Everyone may have their own groups, but you can always join in. Find someone who you would like to get to know better, or get involved in a club that does something you're into to meet people with similar interests. MOD my bff started ignoring me and i don't know why but she says she is still my best friend. i dont have a problem with that, i am just going to let her cool of and its working. my problem is if we stop being friends what are some other tips in making good friends? my mom doesn't usually let me invite people over and will absolutley never ever let me have a sleepover. she says when she was growing up you slept at ur parents house and not somewhere else. and she wont let people come to our house to. also, if i need help with homework i cant invite someone over to study with my mom makes me get help from her. i also am in 5th grade so we don't switch classes, only for advanced math. any more tips on making new friends?

Hey girl! Try talking to your bestie about the sitch. She may be going through a rough time a need some space. Try talking to some other girls in class and getting to know them. It's a great way for making a few extra buds!

Hey babe, you just be a friend to her and just let her know that you don't believe any of the stupid stuff people say about her. Also, stand up for her when you see people being rude so she knows that you really mean what you say. Encourage your friends to get to know her better, too.

Hey babe, she's lucky to have a friend that cares like you do. Just let her know that you're there to talk if she wants but don't pressure her if she doesn't. Maybe you can plan a night in for just the two of you and have lots of fun watching movies and playing games just to keep her mind off of it.

Hey girl, it's totes natural for a girl to start falling in like with a guy friend. The thing to do? Take it easy. Remind yourself he's just your friend, that's all. If you think he might be interested in you, try flirting. But if something doesn't seem right, put your feelings aside for now and see where they go. If you're meant to be, you will.

Hey babe, I would talk to your ex-bff and tell her that you want to start over because you miss her. Try talking to your crush one-on-one and when the time is right, ask him how he feels for you and tell him how you feel.

Hey babe, unfortch there's not much you can do to control this issue. Your parents I'm sure have considered their family options and have chosen to just have one child. Ask your parents if they'd set up play dates with your cousins more often and let them know how you feel. You can always talk to your school counselor about it, too.

guys i need advice!
my friends are always fighting over little things and i hate it!! they are currently fighting over an idea me and my other friend pretty much came up with! they worst one this year was about those bracelets "bangles!" it was so stupid and every time i even find out about it the next maybe 10 mins or so i am having to chose side! i hate having to do it so do you guys have any advice on either how to keep them from fighting or me getting in the middle

ModModModModMod! Hi =] Welll, my dentist pulled out a tooth which was totally not ready to come out, and it took like 10 minutes to pull it out. But after that, my gums (ewww) got swollen up on that side of my face, and so one of my cheeks looks SOO fat, and i had to go to school like that today! I have no idea when the swellings gonna go down =[ Is ice the only thing that helps? Is there anything that helps or makes the swelling harder to see? Thanksss <333 =D

Hey girl! I think everyone has been in your situation at some point. I wouldn't worry too much about the swelling. Just put ice on it... maybe take a motrin or tylenol (this can help with pain and sometimes with swelling). However, the swelling will go down when it's ready. You should be fine in a few day!
