Have a Tasty and Healthy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is all about being appreciative for what you have, and spending time with the folks you love. The feast is a huge part of the day, but it doesn’t have to be a nutritional nightmare.

We’ve got a few do’s and don’ts to make the holiday a little healthier!

Don’t skip breakfast or lunch.
It’s tempting to eat a tiny breakfast on Turkey Day, knowing you’re gonna fill up later. Truth is, eating before the big feast means you’re less likely to be totally ravenous at dinner. Then, you’ll be able to nosh on your favorite seasonal foods, instead of filling up on cheese and appetizers.

Do take it slow.
Try putting the brakes on your bites, instead of shoveling food into your mouth. Eating slower means you savor what you’re eating, and makes you more able to recognize when you’re full. Instead of focusing solely on the grub in front of you, take sometime to enjoy the people and the happiness of the holiday.

Don’t nosh the crunchy stuff.
The skin is the most fatty parts of the bird, and offers almost zero nutritional benefits. White turkey meat, on the other hand, is a great source of lean protein.

Do get some exercise.
Who wants to move around after such a big meal? Instead, try to work out before you head to the feast. Try some power yoga or a kickboxing DVD. Or, get the family involved and go for a hike. You’ll get an instant uplift and feel energized all day!

Don’t miss out on dessert.
Hey, Thanksgiving only happens once a year—don’t deprive yourself of a fave dessert. Have a small slice of a pie you heart, or a couple of your Aunt’s famous pumpkin cookies. Part of eating healthy is learning moderation!

I need advide. Theres this guy I've liked for a while. We weren't really friends or anything, but we talked sometimes. And two days ago, my bff txted me and told me to check out his facebook profile. HE HAS A GIRLFRIEND NOW! I was so upset. Do you have any advice as to how to get over him? Or to get him to like me? thanks

Hey babe! If he has a GF, it's time to move on.  Try spending time with other guys and distracting yourself by doing things that make you happy.  Do your nails with your girls or go shopping.  Dance to your favorite music or bake cookies and watch holiday movies.  Thanksgiving is almost here and that should be a good distraction too!

I was wondering if you knew a good tinted moisturizer that will give my fair skin a healthy glow while....1.) not looking fake for winter 2.) not breaking out my skin and 3.) covering blemishes and flaws. THANKS MUCH!

Hey babe! Try a tinted moisturizer that says: Oil Free on it.  That will prevent breakouts!  For fair skin try the lightest tinted moisturizer available. I like Neutrogena and Almay cosmetics. The drugstore should have tinted moisturizers that are a good quality but also a reasonable price!

Mod,
I kinda just need someone to talk to for a sec; I kinda need to vent about something I don't understand. So, the other day my mom said that we don't have a lot of money right now when I mentioned this one winter coat that I really like (and want for Christmas.) It's really one of the only things I want for Christmas( i only REALLY want, like, 2 things.(and that's the truth!!)), and it's $70, when before my mom was going to buy me an ipod touch ($200!!!) I don't understand, since what I want now is much cheaper than what I wanted before. And, I understand that we don't have a lot of money right now; I get that, but she's just kind of not making any sense right now.. I don't want to make her unhappy by bringing up all this over again, but I don't get it... Have any advice? Thanks SO much in advance, Mod!

hey babe! I know what you mean. Parents can be so confusing in this economy, but she just wants to make you happy.  Maybe she thought that the ipod touch meant a lot more to you than the jacket.  You could sit down with her and let her know you don't care about the ipod.  Let her know you don't want or expect a lot for christmas, and you don't want her to spend a lot of money on you.  If she asks what you want, let her know the only thing you care about is having a nice new jacket to wear.  This way you're asking for something functional and important to have, as well as something you really want.  Good luck babe.

MODDD! i need some help!
so i really like this guy, James, but i have heard all these crazy rumors. my crush is shy, but he gets embarrassed when someone brings me up. LIke once, he said to my friend who likes one of his friends "i cant believe you like Joe" and she said "Well who cares that i like Joe, you like Hannah and she likes you!" and he got VERY red with a "i cant believe you just said that out loud and in front of everyone look" i was right there, but neither my friend or him knew i was there cause i was on the other side of the lockers. Thats just an example of stuff happening every day about us. But one of his friends says he doesnt like me, but a couplke others say hes like obsessed with me. and a few say he just likes me a lot. But im not sure who to believe. But today, my friend was being weird and saying "i have orange eyes" so i was like "james, does fareeha have orange eyes" but he ignored me. his friend said "hannah and james are flirting!" and he just got a little red and turned away from me. what do you think him ignoring me means? do you think he likes me? what should i do?

Hey girl, if your crush is shy and you're unsure about how he feels, why not make the first move? It's embarrassing for anyone to be called out in front of their friends in a crowd, so the red face is totally understandable. Try to catch this guy away from all your friends solo and chat him up to see how he responds. If he's Chatty Cathy back, be bold and ask him if he wants to join your plans for the weekend. Right now, I think it's still too early to see how he feels, but there is def potential. Good luck.

its good, i dont eat much thanks giving food in the first place, its ham carrots, and applesauce for me. but then i get extra dessert so i think ill expand my horizons this year. thanks(:

horseloverhgv on 11/13/2009 4:30:33 PM

Want to eat healthy but not ready to go full vegetarian?
Solution: Go semi-veg! This means that you will not eat cow and pig but still eat chicken and turkey (basically cutting out red meat). Or, you can give up all of those and just eat seafood.

Solution2: Moderation! Instead of every meal, eat meat just once a day or maybe once every couple days.

Solution3: Lower quantities! The average American eats 6 servings of meat a day (2 servings per meal) when all they need is 3 a day. How about you eat meat every meal but only half a serving each meal?

glamgirlteen on 11/13/2009 4:10:49 PM

I never eat much on thanksgiving because I'm vegetarian and don't eat turkey! I just eat side dishes like stuffing and corn and mashed potatoes!
Yum!

glamgirlteen on 11/13/2009 4:10:43 PM

Mmm....
I can't wait for Thanksgiving! I get to see my aunt and uncle, and eat great food. That's a pretty good deal!

Or you can also join a Turkey Trot! My sister (She is a sophomore) organized one with some members of her cross country team and they even have sponsors and everything! And my sister is even dressing up in a huge turkey costume! It will be hilarious and a great way to exercize!
