Your Bod

Avoid Holiday Poundage!

With all of the yummy food and sweet treats, it’s no wonder it’s easy to overeat during the holidays. There’s leftover Halloween candy and who can forget about the pumpkin pie, turkey and mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving.

This is the time of year when pants get a little snugger and bellies are a lot fuller. Keep reading to find out how to indulge, without the bulge!

Get Rid of Leftover Candy
It’s been a few weeks since Halloween, but I bet you’ve still got some leftover Kit Kats and Butterfingers in your goodie bag. Instead of eating it all, give it away. There will be plenty of sweets at Thanksgiving!

Portion Control
During the holidays, it’s easy to overload on everything. Mashed potatoes heap up, cookies are snagged by the handful and the candy bowls are brimming. Instead of grabbing super-sized servings, eat reasonable amounts of your faves (even dessert!). Check out our guide to portions.

Listen to your Bod
Getting in tune with your body can be one of the most helpful things to stay healthy. Your tummy will tell you when you’re full and what it needs. Craving a burger? Your bod might need protein, so nosh some beans or turkey. Do those sweet potatoes look especially delish? Your body might need carbs. You’ll always need veggies, so don’t skimp on the greens, girl.

Work It Out
The holidays are usually the time when people slack off on their exercise routine. Holiday parties, decorating and baking can get in the way of your daily run and suddenly it’s January and you realize you haven’t seen your running shoes since October. It’s important for your health (and body) to keep working out. Break up your exercise if you can’t fit in a half hour on most days.

Remember, the holidays are a great time to spend with fam and friends, go to parties, and eat yummy foods. Don’t be afraid to indulge yourself in the sweet treats your grandma bakes and don’t kick yourself in the butt if you end up eating too much one night (it’s bound to happen). Just remember the next day is a new day and you can start your good habits all over again!

MOD ok i want to work out but... i never have time between homework and friends:S and when i do have time i'm either really tired from seeing friends or my brains totally fried from homework what do i do?

Hey girl, get up twenty minutes earlier and go for a quick run or do ten situps and ten pushups when you finish a page of homework. It is easy to encorporate exercises into your routine. Save the weekends for lengthier work outs like long runs or snow shoeing or hiking. xo JANA

heyy mod, i knw tht thanksgiving is coming up and i was wondering if there is any way to eat alot on thanksgivig and still be able to be in good shape by monday. I play basketball and our coach is letting us eat all we want but we have to hit the tracks on mondays practice. I was wondering if there was any way that i would be able to be in shape by monday??
thnx basketball luver

Hey girl! You are either in shape now or not... eating a lot in one day won't make you be in bad shape. I promise! But if you aren't in shape right now, then you won't be in shape on Monday. YOu can't just go from being out of shape to in shape in 5 days. ONe day of eating lotsa stuffing and turkey won't hurt you though... well, it might give you a tummy ache.

i have been hungry lately... even after i have a snack! whats up with this?? i have always been skinny and i dont want to change that. are there any healthy eating tips you have??
and is the hunger part of pms???
thanks!!!

Hey babe,

A lot of times when you feel hungry you're actually thirsty. Try having a glass of water before you eat next time and see if that helps. If you're still hungry eat another small snack. If you're actually hungry you should eat! Your body is going through a lot of changes right now and you need your nutrients!

i'm going to a tropical destination over christmas break live in a cold place where you can't tan now. my family is making me tan in a tanning bed because there afraid i'm going to burn really bad. the problem is that i disagree with tan beds because the skin damage you can get from them, but if i don't i will burn really bad. it's unrealistic to not get tan down there at all too. what should i do?

Hey girl! You should do what you feel most comfy with, you should just explain to your parents about why you don't want to do.

WHat are tips to eat healthy??

Hey, make sure you have healthy snacks on hand like yogurt, fruit and pretzels. That way, when you're hungry, you'll only have smart choices to pick from!

i have to take gym next year and we have to run all the way around the track 3 times and if we slow or stop WE HAVE TO START OVER!
im not used to running and....
i just dont think i can do it, is there anyway to help prepare me?

Hey babe, all you can do is try your hardest and do the best you possibly can do. You can prepare by running once a week and then increase it as it gets easier.

i am 13 really skinny and 5ft 6in. i really hope i stop growing soon, becasue its annoying being taller than everyone. i haven't even got my period. what r signs that im about to get it and btw... what is pms?????
thx... u guys r da best!!!!

Hey girl, PMS is premenstrual syndrome.  It's actually different for each girl: it could be bloating, mood swings, fatigue, increased appetite, cramps, etc. depending on the person. Getting any of those signs and discharge are usually good signs it's coming.

Hey! You may know me as the vegetarian girl. I just want to say that I am not forcing anyone to go vegetarian and I am not bashing meat eaters. I just want to provide facts and give you the option to have the benefits of vegetarianism. I'm sick of getting rude comments from people that don't know better! But, thank you for all of you who support me and leave me good comments or questions or asking for advice.
Save the turkeys!

MOD MOD MOD MOD!
What should I wear for Thanksgiving? I've got NOTHING to wear! I have pretty short hair, so something that's like Alice Cullen's clothes look great on me. Trouble is I can't find any! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey girl, try a cute blouse, cardie, and skinny jeans. Dress your look up a bit with necklaces and bangles. You'll be the cutie at Thanksgiving dinner.

MOD MOD MOD Sometimes, well actually most of the time, I always feel hungry. Is this normal?

Hey girl, definitely normal when you're growing up. It's especially prevalent before your period: PMS.

Speaking of full bellies, I have a problem. On Monday, i have dance at school. We have to wear leotards (and they're really unflattering!) and to a combo in them.i'm used to leos and all but not these kinds, because they're sleeveless. i'm not the skinniest of dancers, and all of the girls in my class are. can u reccomend any stomach and arm toning exercises? thanks! Smile

Hey girl, dancing itself is a great exercise. You can also do weights and cardio outside of class (running), but honestly, you shouldn't be self-conscious. You're taking care of yourself, and your body is beautiful the way it is!

i always feel like i am fat, and i try to go on a diet but it never works. my friends and family say im not fat, but i think i am. how can i boost my self esteem?

Hey girl, you def aren't fat. It's about being confident. Look in the mirror and list the things you love about yourself: your eyes, your hair, etc. Don't dwell on the bad things. Eat healthy, exercise, take care of yourself and smile. You're a beautiful, healthy girl who's perfect the way she is.

MOD!MOD!MOD! i have a problem. i'm accident prone and very klutzy which adds into the getting hurt part. my friends always tease me because i'm getting physically hurt often and i trip over pretty much everything including air. i try too ignore it but it's not helping. what should i do?

Hey girl, just laugh with your friends and know you'll be fine. Bella was a little clumsy, and she still got Edward, right? No worries!

Is it okay to wear a more absorbant pads than you need to? I don't try to, but sometimes my flow is really light.
Thanks!

Hey girl, it's totally fine. You can always wear pantyliners too toward the end of your period on super light days.

MOD and anyone
My dog was diagnosed with a disease that could kill her. My family can not afford to pay for the medicine that will make her better. so we are giving her the cheaper medicine that will help her mostly. I just came home and she was lying on the floor shaking and her eyes rolled back. she still wagged her tail when i came in though. I don't want her to die. i don't know what to do without her. they may try the expensive medicine one time but they may have to put her to sleep. Help!

Hey girl, I know it's hard, but you've just got to be optimistic. What your pup is going through, it's something you can't control. Just know if your dog is put down, she'll be going to better place with no pain. For now, cherish each day you have with her. It's going to be ok, girl. Keep your head up.
