Make Your Skin Glow!

With the cold weather rolling in, skin can start to look a little dull.

There’s no hiding behind a tan this time of the year, so caring for your complexion is even more important.

There are easy (and some free!) ways to get that healthy, radiant look you're going for. Here’s how to get glowin’!

Having healthy skin doesn’t always come down to the products that you use on your face. Make sure you eat nutritious food, the more colorful, the better (those are the ones packed with the most nutrients!) and are chugging water. Daily exercise and catching lots of zzz’s (7 to 8 hours!) make ya glow, too.

Exfoliating once a week can help get rid of dead cells and brighten up skin. Avoid over-scrubbing or risk irritating your face.

St. Ives Apricot Scrub, $4, cvs.com

Coconut oil is nature’s best-kept secret to healthy, radiant skin! It has the ability to heal and moisturize your skin, as well as shrinking pores and minimizing breakouts. This rich, creamy oil can be applied as a substitute for any facial cream. Make sure to get an extra virgin variety, and apply once or twice a day.

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, $9, vitaminshoppe.com

Even though summer is over, you don’t have to put away your bronzer… but use it with caution!  After applying your foundation, sweep a light amount of bronzer across your face for the extra glow. If you have liquid bronzer, mix a dab of it in with your moisturizer.  Remember, you aren’t trying to achieve a full-on face tan, you just want healthy, natural-looking glow.

MOD! A couple weeks ago, my bf of three weeks broke up with me. He was really sweet and funny, but a week before he dumped me, he just ignored me and wouldn't talk to me. I only found out we broke up because our one friend asked if i knew why we broke up. I was crushed, but now I can't stop thinking of and luving him! Any way I can get him out of my head? And why the heck does he keep staring at me in class if he broke up with ME? Help!

He might not be over you either, but theres no guarantee. I suggest you just focus on other things and try your hardest to stay busy so you wont think of him. Its gonna be hard and youre going to think of him a lot, but just keep yourself busy and things will be ok. xoxo kerra

MOD MOD MOD!!!
I have the worst skin EVER. I wash my face twice a day, put on oil free moisturizer, oil free SPF 15 to block out the sun, and daily oil control. And it still doesn't work. I started breaking out in fourth grade, and I'm now in sixth. It's really embarassing, because I'm the only one in my whole grade. I want it to go away, so what else can I try?

Hey girl! You might want to ask your parents about going to a dermotologist for help.

I get a really really really greasy face, and i live in a very humid city. I wash my face with noxema twice a day and tie my hair up out of my face as much as i can, but my face is still shiny and slimy!!! Help!!!!!!!

Hey girl,

Apply an oil control toner after washing your face in the morning to keep down the shine. Exfoliate once a week. Use oil-free moisturizer to keep your skin from drying out.

my skin is oily, and so i was wondering what would some good things be for it, because i normally wash my face with a special soap, and then put a cream on it. r there some products to make it less oily?
thanks!
ally

Hey girl! Unfortunately, there aren't any products to make your skin less oily, that's just how it is. However, there are great oil removing pads that can be carried anywhere and you can use them anywhere. Just make sure you are washing your face often and keeping it clean.

Mod Mod Mod Mod Mod Mod My sholder really hurts. Plus I have a cheerleading competition on Sunday, and thats no good for it. I really wanna do good. Is there any way to stp the severe pain? I have fair skin and use Neutragena Oil Free Acne Wash and Neutragene daily Cleanser. Is that to much for my skin? Plus I dont even have acne yet just pimples. Thanks

Hey girl! Well, if it's really bad, I would head to a doc before putting any more strain on it. They will be able to tell you exactly what's up with your shoulder. And, no. That face wash is prob perfect for you!

Mod Mod Mod Mod I just wanted to say how thankful I am for Girls Life. I got a subscription to this magazine last year as a Christmas present, and to tell you the truth I was like "what is this?" But then after reading the magazine and going on girls life I was hooked. Now for the question. I am not allowed to wear makeup, but when I wear make up I feel beautiful. Is there any way that I could get that certain kind of glow with makeup without even wearing it? Thanks

Hey girl! I'm so glad you enjoy GL so much! As far as the makeup, not really. Makeup is a great self confidence booster if you use it the right way. Try swiping on some lipgloss and holding out until your 'rents give you the okay to wear a little!

MOD!!MOD!! I really want the effects of all this stuff, but don't want to have to go out and buy it all. (I have to pay for this kinda stuff by myself, and I just went to NEW MOON, so I don't have any money right now) I was wondering if there was any way to get the same effect with stuff I already have. btw, I breakout somewhat easily! thanks! OH, also, I have been chugging water for the last few days, and nothing has happend. I mean I didn't expect a miricale or anything, but I expected something to happen! What's up with that?

Hey girl!  You can try getting just the St. Ive's facial wash and then using any moisturizers and make up that you already have.  Drinking water for only a few days won't make a difference that quickly.  You aren't going to see a sudden difference either.  Drinking plenty of water will just help your skin to clear up over time, so don't expect to see any dramatic differences for now.  Best, Kristen <3

OMG! Okay I used to have countless blackheads on my nose. I bought all kinds of exfolitaors that helped but didn't get rid of them. I love makeup remover pads and recently bought Dove Facial Cleansing Cloths. You put water on them and they bubble up. No exfoliators. I am shocked because now my skin is COMPLETELY smooth! I haven't used my exfoliators in days! They are great for sensitive skin and are $6.49 for a pack of 30. AMAZING... seriously!

hey MOD. kai so im trying to find a good brand of oil absorbing sheets,, what do u suggest? I have a bit of oily skin and i get pimples.. not like millions but i get enough.. what do u suggest i do for those too? Also, i have blonde hair, tanned, olive skin tone and blue eyes slim face what do u think i should use for makeup.. i sometimes were but not all the time , i usualy just put mascara foundation and somtimes eyeshadow. but im looking for a bit of a change what do u suggest? also what are some cute styles for mi hair, its a little bit past shoulder length, side bangs to the right naturaly wavy but u straighten mi hair, i know this is kinda long. thankss for reading!Smile

I suggest Clean&Clear wipes; They come in a blue pack and are great for busy girls like us. Def use some blue or green eye makeup with brown liner to bring out your olive tones! And I'd stick with your naturally wavy hair! Best,

my face def drys out in the winter, but i cant exfoliate because my dermy says it's "to rough for my face, and it will be ruined", so i have to get microderm every once in a while, but i love it!

I have some pimples on my face and I cover them up everyday with concealer and foundation and my mom said that I shouldn't do that every day because my skin needs to breathe and it would also help for my pimples to go away faster. But its embarrassing to go to school without me covering them up. Should I keep on wearing the concealer and foundation or go a week without it and see if it helps any? Thanks!

Hey girl! Try taking a few days without any makeup and just cleaning your skin and see if anything clears up.

Hey babe, try using waterproof eye-makeup.  I use waterproof eyeliner, and it stays put all day long! For coverup, try using a liquid based first, then powder on top to keep it in place.

Vaseline works great, especially before you go to bed and just wash it off in the morning to keep your skin moisterized. The tan part is you do that over the summer...in the sun.

I have a ton of tiny little pimples on my forehead. They are barely noticeable but they bother me. What can i do to prevent these from staying forever? Thanks so so so much you guys are life savers.

Hey babe, sometimes with pimples there's not much you can do to get rid of them, ya just gotta wait it out until they clear up. You can try to hurry it along though by using a face scrub once a week and face wash twice a day.

Hey girl, using a little conditioner on the tips of your hair shouldn't make your hair anymore oily. Conditioner is actually good for your hair.

Hey girl, try using some spot treatment. Know pimples come time and time again because of hormones. It's nothing you did that caused them. They just came. It happens to everyone.

I just got my haircut yesterday. My side bangs are really cute, when my hair stylist/cutter blow dried them, but now they look horrible! She showed me how to blowdry them the right way, and i did that, but they are all poofy and are sticking out weird ways! I can't tuck them behind my ears, I got them cut a little longer then my eyebrow because I wanted a change. They don't stay to the side, the come right to the center. I wanted to use what my sylist used to make it sleek and not frizzy like it is now, but she used very expensive Bumble&Bumble stuff. What can I do about my bangs to make them sit right, and what are some good styling products to make have not frizzy and make it sleek. Thanks! (Sorry this is so long)
-bubblybee411

Hey girl, I have side bangs too and it all comes down to how you blow dry them. After you wash your hair, use a fine tooth comb to brush them the direction you want them to go. Then blow dry and spray. You can also use a brush after to reinforce 'em.

ok this is kinda long sorry
My birthday is next Sunday, and I'm having my party the Saturday after. I'm starting to make a list of who I'm gonna invite so I can get out invitations, and I have a question.
First, I just started 7th grade this year, and that means we start at middle school which is 4 elementarys combined. I met lots of new friends this year, but they arent REALLY close yet, i mean i have only known them since september. should i invite them anyways? (its a sleepoer)
and secodly, what info. do i need to put on my invitations? i put my address, phone number, and that we are going to the mall/sleepover, and i put the date/time. is there any info. im forgetting?
thanks!

Hey girl, happy early birthday, girl! For invites, there's no better time to invite a bunch of your new friends to get closer. Info on the invite should include your address, phone, purpose of the party, and date and info. Let 'em know if they need to bring anything too!

But I passed him a note asking him if the homework was 1-22 blah blah, and he wrote down the answer. Then he was saying weird things. hard to describe! But I can't tell if he likes me...it's so hard!
I wrote to him that I was bored and he wrote back he was too and I said my favroite color and he said his and we went back and forth with notes for a little bit. Would he do that if he didn't like me? Do you think?

Hey girl, sounds like something anyone would do if they were bored, honestly. If he started writing flirty things though? Well, then it could be something more.

Hey, what’s a low maintenance hair-do for dark brown, shiny, thin, volume-less hair? I’m planning to get a haircut so I want something super cool. From the middle of my head to the tip of my hair, its 1’6” and I don’t want to take a lot off. For help w/ my complexion, I have tan skin w/ olive undertones. I have an inverted triangle shaped face w/ not as much as a chin though. My face isn’t too skinny, more on the fat side, but very slightly. I’m trying to give you a better idea of my face. What shampoos do you recommend for my hair, and what hair-do should I choose. BTW, I’m a tomboy. I have the jeans and t-shirt paired w/ converse look. Sorry to put you through the pain of reading this all, my comments are super long!
-Ally

Hey girl, I'd try getting some layers to give your hair some volume. Try looking for your fave celeb's hair 'dos and bringing a pic to your stylist. I'd also suggest thin, blunt bangs if you want a big change. If not? Don't sweat it.

Okay my birthday is 2 days after Christmas. I turn 13 and I wanted to know some party ideas. I already had an ice skate/laser tag party last year and that was really expensive. I can't have the party at my house. I can;t have it at a pool (Duh). And the roller rink is kinda dirty and old and not so much fun. What do you think I can do for my bday without it being too expensive? And I want to invite maybe around 10 people or so. THANK YOU A BAZILLION!!

Hey girl, why not try a post-Christmas shopping party? Tell your girls to bring their holiday gift money and go on a shopping spree. Then have dinner and watch a movie together after. It's a fun, unique way to have a birthday out with the girls.
