The Bread + Butter Girls

Katie, and Emma O’Rourke probably never imagined themselves taking on such a big project at such a young age. But the sister-duo—Katie is 12 and Emma is 10—did just that with the help and support of their fam.

They decided to help the countless people who don’t have enough to eat by creating the bread + butter project.

The girls created an online clothing store with sweatshirts, t-shirts, hoodies and other comfy, cute clothing. All of the gear is emblazoned with their “bread + butter” logo. Half of the profits are donated directly to food banks in New England (and soon, all across the country!).

So, why did they choose the name bread + butter? It serves as a reminder that so many people all around the country don’t even have the basics. Both Katie and Emma play a big part in the company—designing products, providing updates on their site and pitching marketing ideas. The clothing store was their brainchild and they make sure it’s run just how they imagined it.

Two of my BFF's are really being jerks. Since the beginning of the year, they've been all BFFy together. They whisper right in front of my face, then friend 2 stares right at me and laughs. Whenever I come over to say hi or something, they shoot each other looks like"Oh, great. Here SHE comes." They do it to my other friends too, though, not just me. I tried talking to them, but they ignored me. I am getting so depressed beacuse of it. I just want everything to be like it was before. Sry for the length...

These two friends of yours sound very mean. I dont think theyre worth your time or effort. if theyre going to gang up on their supposed friends, then theyre not nice people. Hey chica, before you make a move on your bestie's bro, talk to them to see if they're cool it. It can be akward when their friend wants to date their sibling. After that start talking to him. Try to hang out with him and let him know how ya feel. Ask your BFF for help, since they know them the best.

How about doing yard work for fam or neighbors? It is fall after all, there are tons of leaves that need to be raked everywhere!

So yesterday I was texting on my brother's phone because mine was out of range. I started texting my bff. Then today, She just texted me saying that she likes him, he likes her, and they've been texting the WHOLE night. My brother is 17 and she's 12 but she told him she was 13. She keeps saying that I'm a bad friend because I'm not supporting her and that I don't think it's okay. I'm not a bad friend, I just don't want her dating my brother. It's weird and it makes me feel... well weird

Hey girl, I think I answered this Q already. Whoa, if your bro is 17, he should not be leading your 12 year old friend on. Have you tried talking to him about it? He might think that it's just a little harmless flirting not knowing how your bff is totally falling head over heels. I'd for sure go talk to your bro before your bestie, and if he's still not budging, give your 'rents the 411.

Hey girl, why not talk to your 'rents about getting a part-time job. During the holiday season, a lot of people are hiring due to the busy foot traffic at places like your mall, local cafes, bookstores, etc. Not old enough to work yet? Ask your parent's friends, neighbors, aunts, uncles, people in your church, etc, if they need a babysitter. With all the special O's going around for the holidays, the demand should be pretty high. Also, cold weather means people hate walking their dogs. That might not be a bad option to score some dough either. Good luck.

Hehe, hey girl. First and foremost I'd think about how much you'd really care if your bro and your bff started dating. Since it's new and kind of a shock right now, you might be a little sick about it. If you absolutely cannot get over it or stand the thought, talk to your bro and ask him if he'd ease up. Tell him you don't feel comfortable and he should understand. If that doesn't do the trick, go to your bff and fill her in on how you feel. But hey, give it some more thought, it might not be a horrible idea. After all, they are your two fave people in the world.
