Cecilia Cassini, 10, knew she wanted to be a fashion designer from the moment she was born. She started sewing at age six and now some of the biggest names in the biz are taking notice. We chatted up Cecilia about her fave outfits, her must-watch TV show (take a guess!) and who she’d love to dress. Keep reading to get seriously inspired by this stylish chica.
“I always loved fashion and clothes, and had an opinion of what I wanted to wear,” Cecilia spills. These days, she’s a total trendsetter by bringing green practices to her business. She reuses and repurposes fabrics as a way to save money and the environment. “I take old clothes and use the fabric to create new one-of-a-kind masterpieces!” she said.
In one of Cecilia’s designs, Paris, she described the process of making the dress. “I used a simple black silk stretch on top and “repurposed” the sparkly sequins on the bottom!” she said. “It was pretty easy to do!” So, why the name “Paris”? Her response, “It made me think of Paris because it was beautiful and fancy like my favorite city in the world.”
A few weeks ago, Cecilia was invited to show her creations at Tough Cookie, for a trunk show (when designers show their threads to merchandisers). Her favorite part of the day? “All day!” Almost all of her designs sold and she loved “just meeting and watching so many girls loving my designs, trying them on and buying them!” Celebs are turning to Cecilia to make cute clothes for their tots, too. Cool, right?
It’s no doubt that the fashion world will be seeing great things from Cecilia. Her future goals? “I dream of having my own collection sold at stores all over the world, to have my own collection at fashion week, to dress a lot of girls who love my designs, including Sasha and Malia Obama and Blake [Lively] from Gossip Girl!”
Big dreams, but we’re sure she’ll go out there and make it happen!
