Don't Want My Parents to Adopt

 

I have a serious problem. My parents want to adopt a Chinese girl. I really don’t want to because I think it will change my life too drastically. I like my life the way it is. Could you give me some advice on how to deal with the new baby if we adopt one.

I'm adopted and i am really happy that i am. My older sister and brother were really nice when I came to live with them. Of course they didnt want a little sister! But they were still nice...I really appreaciate the good family i have now.

the eighth grade gets 2 go on a school trip somewhere cool but u either have 2 have a parent w/ u or be in a group w/ 1 parent. my mom would have been mine 2 go 2 ny but then my 2 bffs asked me 2 be in their group. i told my mom that i was gonna go w/ them and she got mad. then she told me that she wasnt sure she wanted me goin 2 nyc 4 the 1st time w/ some1 else even tho its my bffs mom, who she met when we were in kindergarton. i cant tell if shes upset i want 2 go w/ them and i hurt her feeling (she knows that i have wanted more independance now that im almost 14)or if she actually means that. please help!!!




Hey girl! The best thing you can do is talk to her about and make sure her feelings aren't hurt. We sometimes forget that mom's have feelings too and that we can hurt them pretty easily.

Look, I understand being jealous and all, and thinking about how much your life will change, but from the way you're talking, it sounds like you're only thinking in the negative. First off,I'm going to start with the postive/negative, otherwise known as the pros and cons list. Here we go: No, you won't be the center of attention any more (And that's okay. Live with it.)but that doesn't mean your parents don't love you. Yes, you'll have to share lots of things, but at least you'll have some one to share them with. Yes, you'll probably be their first choice for a babysitter, but then you'll have extra spending money. See what I mean?
And second off, I'm adopted. So I'm not really a big fan of yours. Sorry if I sound rude, but /I/ think adoption is frickin FANTASTIC!!! That's all. See ya!

moderator thanks again so much. you really make me feel a lot better. i think once Christmas break comes, i can just take a break from school and enjoy being with my family and hopefully it will take my mind off of everything. i think it will take awhile but eventually i will forget about it or at least not think about it every second. thanks again so much. everybody makes mistakes and i think because i have felt so guilty and will never do it again then i should just relax! thank you. thank you. thank you. a million times thank you!

moderator! yay i am glad you're modding taeler because i really need your advice. remember how i told you how i got involved in that stuff on clubpenguins website? well you told me to just forget about it and i am not a bad person but i have had trouble with that. i havent been able to enjoy anything recently, all i think about is how i took part in something horrible, and how i sinned horribly and how my parents would be upset, and how i am a horrible Catholic and person. Mod, i never meant to do something like this. the internet has exposed me to bad things and i wish i could take everything back. i mean how would i ever know that on a website like clubpenguin they would pretend to have sex? i thought the website was safe then i was exposed to something like this. i cant believe i took part in it too. i mean its not like i did it that many times, only a couple but why would i do such a thing. i feel like i am such an unpure person. help me. i have made myself sick over this.

 

Hey girl! You should really know you're not a bad person and that you made an honest mistake. You have to stop dwelling on it. Trust, me soon, you won't fee so bad. Just ride it out and know that you are totally pure and just didn't know what was going on. Focus on other things (like the holidays!) for a while and soon, you won't even remember it!

**MOD**MOD** I need a little help.. On Monday my sister (who, I'm not close to at all) has offered to take me to see New Moon (woot!). But, I'm afraid that I'll get an anxiety attack and want to tell her I can't go. I have GAD (General Anxiety Disorder) and not many people close to me know. Mainly my parents. I really hate when I get an anxiety attack because it makes me feel like something horrible is going to happen and my entire body gets really really hot, and my heart hammers in my chest (sometimes) and I really hate it! Any advice on how to stop it? Or at least something that might help so I can go to the movies?

You might not believe it, but GAD is very common (and so are panic attacks). The trick is to train yourself not to be afraid of having one. It sounds like you should try to go to therapy to learn ways to cope with the anxiety. The sooner you start therapy, the easier it will be to manage later in your life. Until you start therapy, tell yourself that an anxiety attack will not hurt you or kill you. The feelings you get (burning or hot feelings, racing heart) are actually just caused by a chemical in your body called adrenaline. There's no need to be afraid of it, it's just a chemical your body produces that causes those sensations. Facing your fears and going to the movies with your sister is the best thing you can do for yourself. If you have an anxiety attack, so what? Lot's of people have them. I've had panic attacks too. It's rough and unpleasant but just know that life will go on and you will be okay. The key is not to let the panic make you hide from life. And don't worry, anxiety attacks only last a couple minutes, so if you do have one, just allow it to pass through you and then go back to watching the movie! Good Luck, you can do it!

MOD MOD MOD- Well currently my 93 year old lives with us and Dementia! He's so embarrassing and ruins my life. We have to take him to family parties (even though he's not part of our family) and in public. And my mom has to take care of him ( which means yes bathing him and all that stuff). I really don't like him. I know he's just confused but still it stinks because I'm only 13. And all he does is paste around all day! It's so ANNOYING! I mean we can't even just go to the mall, without him coming usually.I wish my mom could just watch him at his old house like BEFORE! What should i do MOD? Please help! - Annoyed with grandpa

 

Hey girl! I can only imagine how tough it can be to watch this going on. But, try to be sensitive about it. He's probably just as confused as you are annoyed. Just try to do you own thing and be there for you mom if she needs help! You'll feel better about your sitch and about yourself!

Mod-- A girl in my class, who we'll call Angela, has strict, catholic parents. Angela is fairly nice, never gets in trouble, is gorgeous, and gets very good grades. She is, however, not alowed to go out with a certain guy, who we'll call Andy. He is HOT, which is why she's been going out with him, but he lacks severely in personality and is violent (only towards guys). Her brother has been threatening to beat him up if he went out with her again for a fair while, and yesterday he did. I'm not sure what happened, but angela came to school today with a HUGE bruise on her leg, and apparently it came from her mother! It looks absolutely terrible, and she's trying to pass It off as nothing. That's child abuse. Is there anything I can do? (btw, I live in Canada)

 

 

Hey girl! I'm not totally sure what the laws are in Canada but you should try talking to Angela a little more. Find out if everything is okay and what exactly happened. You can decide what to do based on what she tells you but it might be a good idea to tell an adult asap!

MOD MOD okayy, i just got a new boyfriend. We have been going out for about three weeks and on friday he wants to kiss. well it started as just kissing. then it went to just a 3 second kiss, then a makeout, and know he wants to do some other stuff. im trying to get the idea out of his head, but he thinks i will change my mind or something. i really really dont want to. Is there something i can say to assure him that i love him, i just dont want to do anything more than kissing. Also Im sorta popular at my school, and my boyfriend is, but not with girls. like my "friend" came up to me and asked who i am going out with and i told her and she said eww, why?? but everyone is doing that. i walked in to the locker room and every1 was talkin about me and him. and they said some mean stuff. Also im nt over my ex. He told me the other day he still loves me and he would do anything for me. But when we were going out he figured out about my eating disorder (dont worry im getting help) and after we broke up he told a couple people. and when he figured about me and my new BF he flipped out and called me all this stuff. So do you think i should get back maybe with my ex, stay with my bf, or find a new guy??? also when people ask were i went and didnt answer my phone all summer (i was in rehab) what do i tel them??

First of all, good for you for getting help and admitting you have a prob. That takes a lot of guts. You should be proud of yourself for getting help! When people ask where you were, just say you had a crazy busy summer and you didn't mean to fall out of touch with them.

Now about the boy thing, you need to make it crystal clear to your current BF that you do NOT want to do anything except kiss. There would be nothing worse than feeling forced into to doing something and regretting it afterward. I talk to lots of girls and middle school and high school, and most of them want to wait to do anything other than kiss too. So don't feel like you're alone. You should feel confident when you tell your BF that you only want to kiss. If he loves you and is a good guy, he will understand and respect that. If he continues to pressure you (he has already been pressuring you) then tell him that it's over and start looking for a guy who appreciates you and can respect your decisions about your body.

ok well i am sooo sad. last week a girl from my school died in a car accident she was a sophmore. this weekend a boy also from my school had an asma attack and right now is in icu and on life support.... the teachers say he probly wont make it through the night he is only a freshmen.... i dont kno how 2 handle all this expecially around christmas. whenever i think about it i think what if that was my best friends or boyfriend or family member.....how can i not think about it and help the ones who were very close 2 these wonderful people.... thanks a ton sorry its so long : )

I DID SOMETHING REALLY STUPID!!!!
i kinda sexted someone, though it was IMing, so i guess its not really sexting. only me and the guy kno so far, but im afraid it might get out. it wasnt pics or anything, it was just perverted talk. actually, he was the one who was doing all the dirty talk, i just didnt kno how to get out of the conversation.
so basically, i realized a lot of girls are probably going through the same thing. so why doesnt GL write an article about it. me personally am 15, but i kno sum 11 year olds tht hav taken pics of themselves, or done dirty talk. GL could tell us how to get out of a situation like that and wat 2 do if it does end up happening.

Hey one quick question. At school its not so well on a daily basis im get called lesbian,, gay, and so many other things that arent true at all. I want to transfer to another school in the district or go online, but i really want to stay my school is really great and awesome. And i cant do anything because my stepbrother is the head honcho of the 6th grade and he wont listen to me and stop it but even if he did the rest of his followers still make fun of me and last year i was known as. it sucks so bad that it is made me depressed and my family has high risks at depression and if we get caught up in it it is really hard to get rid of. How will i talk to any one when i have no one to talk to? my mom rarely listens to me? she thinks i did it to myself and everyone else doesnt care at all




Hey girl! I'm so sorry. How mean. Just try to ignore everyone- hopefully they will grow out of it eventually. In the meantime, you can talk to your guidance counselor (That's what they are there for) and try to make some friends who you can talk to.

Your friend is probably going through a lot of changes and is feeling pretty vulnerable right now so make sure when you tell her that you're uncomfortable you let her know that you would be uncomfortable if she went into a lot of detail about kissing a boy too. Let her know that you still support her and care about her, you're just not into all the detail.

I think you worry to much that your parents are going to love the Chinese girl more than they already love you. Lighten up and don't be so jealous. If your parents do adopt the little girl and you feel like they spend to much time with her or that they don't pay any attention to you, then just talk to them and tell them how you feel. I have a bit of a sitch.. I kind of fell off a horse today, and while I'm fine, I have this huge shiner and I scratched my face a bit! But I still have all of my shopping to do for Xmas, a boy asked me out, and I really wanted to go out and see some friends..how can I hide it or make it less colorful and puffy??? Also, I still have a bit of a headache..is there anything that I could eat or drink that could help it go away? I'm really kind of bummed that it had to happen around Christmas.

My parents wanted to adopt 2 years ago. I was one of three kids, and the baby in the family... when my mom told me that we were going to adopt, i went ballistic and didn't want to adopt at all. my mom talked to multiple parents that have adopted and already had biological children. i soon excepted the idea. Now, i have a little brother who is 6 now. It was the best thing that has ever happened to me!

I'm an only child and I love it. But, if my parents decide to adopt I wouldn't mind at all but, I will expect them to see if I'm ok with it first before they adopt. You should talk with your parents about your concerns.
Btw, I don't think you're being selfish at all. I would be a bit nervous too if my parents decide to adopt. IMO, your parents should have made sure you are comfortable with adopting a new sibling before they went out and apply for adoption. You're part of the family too.

Okays so i got a quick question! So our next school dance is around Febuary/Valentines Day apperatly.
And I'm friends with one of our boys foregn exchange students & he's REALLY REALLY nice, but I DO NOT have a crush on him at all cuz 1) He only stays here for a year 2) I think he's little boy cute, but I don't see us dating.
And I talk to him and another foregn exchange student friend after lunch, but ANYWAYS. He's a very sweet boy, laughs a lot at my jokes etc. and I want to be nice and ask him to our next school dance! Smile But the thing is though I don't really get to talk to him alone since other people talk to us & IDK when I would ask him cuz he's in my choir, but I wouldn't really have time to ask.

If you had mono, a sore throat would not really be that obvious. You'd be more concerned about fever and pain. I think you just have a sore throat with possibly strep. drink a lot of lemon tea with honey in it to help your throat and if it stays sore you might want to get tested.

She's not being selfish, she's just not ready for such a huge change. Adoption sounds great- when other people are adopting. It's a really hard thing. My aunts (yes, plural) adopted twins whose parents did drugs. They were fostered multiple times before their adoption. My aunts have had a lot of trouble taking care of them, but every day they see how it is worth it. Adoption will be VERY hard for you at first, but think about the long term effects. You'll grow to love your new sister, even if you didn't want her in the first place. The idea probably won't grow on you until your parents have already adopted her. Just try to slowly incorporate her into your life, and it will be better than it was before.

please help me here. i used to go on the site club penguin every once and awhile and it was fine but then one time i went on and something said are you good. and i was like yeah? i didnt know what it meant so i went to the persons igloo and they started saying things like ohhh and ahh and i just copied what they said cause i wasnt sure what was going on. but i figured it out and i realized it was supposed to be the penguins having s*x. and i was shocked but curious to find out what other people said and how they did this. so a couple other times i would do it and i would say like nothing just to see what people would say. i didnt realize that this was a sin. i am a good catholic and i feel like such a horrible person. i believe in not having s*x until after marriage please tell me i didnt break that and i need to still be a pure girl who is a virgi. please help me. and another thing...i cant get in trouble or like arrested or anything for doing this? almost everybody on that site does. but is it like being a offender. i am so confused. help me please. i am not a bad person... help me help me help me.

I don't think that my comment is that bad. I am half asian and I live in asia. I am not some sort of racist person. I am also not against adoptign children from others countries and if you read my comment (from the beginning of the comments) it says that is is ok (and actually great) if they are adopting children to help them. It's not OK just cos everyone is doing it. Im not saying they are doing that though. I don't think she is selfish I think that adopting a child is something to be taken seriously and should include permission from everyone who it would affect and who is a part of the family. Tis is the view I take, of course there are also other great views from people who have been adopted which should be taken into consideration, but the girl who wrote to Carol must be feeling very pressured so selfish is something that is not the right word to define her.

My little sister is adopted from China, and she happens to be my best friend. I can't imagine my life without her. I have a lot friends who are adopted, or with sibling who are. Sure, adaption is a life changing, but it is defiantly a good change. Adaption doesn't happen over night! You will have plenty of time to get used to the idea. The wait right now for China (after you do your home study) is several years right now! A sister is great, and a friend for life...

My little sister is adapted from China, and some of my best friends are adapted from around the world. My sister is my best friend, and I can't imagine my life without her. I think adding to the family can only be positive... All I wanted was sister my entire life! Your life might change a little, but in most cases for the better. The adaption process is really long, and esp. the wait for China right now. There will be plenty of time to get used to the idea of becoming a big sister.

OMG! You lucky girl! I wish my parents did that when they had the chance, but now my dad is too old and no agency really lets people adopt when they are as old as my dad! Think about it..

When you bored, you can always play with her (paint her nails, play games) little sisters will always crave any attention! Plus as she gets older you can be the person she confides in! AND it's a great person to talk to!

I know this is a big chance for you, but go at it with an open mind. It'll really bring joy to all of your lives. You will have to make sacrifices, but you will also be helping a child in need and in the long run- yourselves. =) Good luck babe!

Did you know that it can take up to a year to adopt or even more in china so if your parents do end up adopting then you would still have a while to get used to the fact that you would be getting a new sister or brother.

Technicqally, it's is to help people! China has a one child rule and so the girls usually get put up for adoption. (Boys traditionally are to take care of the family.) So it really is helping and it is more than ok. It's life saving. I wouldn't be here if I hadn't been adopted! I would still be alive, but I would be in an orphange most likely. I didn't like the comment of celebs adopting Chinese kids as a trend. Even though those kids will grow up in the fame, it's still saving them from eventually being thrown out in the streets! (Orphanges don't have room so they have to kick out the oldest teens.)

I think adoption is great! notonly do you help a helpless child, you learn to love someone else thats not related to you. if you were that baby wouldn't you want a loving family to grow up with? i have a couple friends who were adopted from Russia. I think some of the comments on here are very offending (i have oriental friends). talk to your parents but keep an open mind. research adoption and talk talk talk. you might really like the baby more than being an only child!

I've always wanted to adopt a child when I am older. My family can't do it now (since my parents don't have 1) the money and 2) the room in our house. And there are already 4 kids so yahSmile

But when I'm older it would be really cool to do. I mean, millions of children need a home! I should give them one!!!!!!

u should feel happy your parents r addopting! the conitions in the orfanges r HORRIBLE! sum of the kids end up working with dangerous macheniery and those products end up in stores such as walmart!  and c wat i mean! i no u mite b a little nervous ov them adopting but it really is great! also look up pictures of chinnese ophaneges! Change is good. it is fun to have a younger sibling then u can babysit him/her. i would love to adopt a kid. they don't have a home or good parents. it is a good thing to adopt and help out with that stuff.

My little brother is adopted from Russia. I hated the idea of adopting a little brother. Eveybody pays attention to him now, he always gets his own way and hes a brat becuase of special treatment. But I think that is how any little brother is. A lot of times I still wished we never adopted. But we also saved a life. I think that most people don't understand how hard it is to have somebody adopted in their family untill they adopt sombody. It is really hard on everybody.

Have you told your mom how you feel? Maybe you could volunteer to be a Big Sister at the local Boys & Girls Club. Ask your mom about it! You will have the chance to hang out with a "younger sister" without adopting her. But as much as you want! You can play, do homework together, and be a mentor, just like you would as an older sister.

Why do they want to adopt specifically a chinese girl? This was a trend with the stars for a while so hopefully they are not following suit because of that. Personally I disagree with the advice. i think that your parents should honor your disicion and not adopt. Maybe ask them why they want to adopt. To help people? That is OK, but tell them how you feel and why you are worried. You should not have to stress over this. This si a family disicion that will impact things in a huge way so don't miss the chance now to tell them how you feel. I'm sure they will understand.

Hey Girl, That's so great that your parents adopt. Those kids are so lucky to be going into such a loving home! That is a huge responsibility and honor that you get to choose the next ones name. Do some research! Look online at baby names. Ask your family for input.... is there a great aunt or uncle or grandparent that you'd like to name him/her after? Choose a name that means a lot to you and your fam!

I always wanted a little sister but instead I have a younger bro. I wish my rents would adopt, I've asked them about it but they said no. Once I thought they were cause my mom left the newspaper open to this adoption page when really she was looking at the News and had accidently left it open. lol, anyway the point is you should be lucky cause I would kill to have a younger sibling.
