My parents are SOOO annoying

Check these out, too...

  • My mom read my diary without permission!
  • 7 things to say (and do) to keep your parents from worrying about you
  • What to do when your parents are worried about something big
  • Oy vey! Am I allowed to have this crush?
  • My dad is sexually abusing me. How can I tell my mom?

Help! My parents are a big problem! They won't let me wear makeup and they don't give me any privacy with my personal life. Plus, they have the WORST style in clothing.

They say I have a bad attitude all the time but it's only because I can't stand holding all this in. I don't say anything because I don't like fighting anymore.

How can I deal with this? I’m only 13 and it’s already really tough.

Hey there, girly! I think all teens feel like their ‘rents are a li'l overprotective (I know I have!). But even though things aren’t so peachy-keen right now, it doesn’t mean that you can work out a compromise that'll make you, mom and dad all happy campers.

They’re just lookin’ out for ya…

Mama and papa love you...A LOT. Sure, you may not always agree with ‘em, but they’re your parents. It’s their job to take care of you and look out for you at all times…even when they don’t really have to. You’re getting older now, so it’s totally normal for you to want some space to try new things and make mistakes on your own. But keep in mind that for mom and dad, it can be kinda scary letting you go.  And yes, it can be annoying, but they mean well.

…maybe a li’l too much

It can be tough for parents to find the balance between freedom and discipline. You’ve entered the teen years, so things might need to change around the house. Talk to them in a calm, mature and respectful tone. Let your voice be heard so that you're not holding all this resentment back.

Freedom is a privilege, not a right, so you’ve gotta earn it! Show them how mature you are by being nice, not getting upset easily and really listening to their side of the story. Get good grades, take on chores without complaining and respect their rules. They’ll be impressed and def more likely to reconsider their strict rules.

Compromise is the key

When you’re chatting with mom and pops, it’s all about meeting in the middle. Explain what you would like, but listen to what they want, too. If you wanna wear makeup, but they’re so not for it, offer to go to the store with your mom so she can help you pick out some natural shades. With clothes, find threads you like and run your outfits  by them just to make sure it isn't inappro.  And if you want more privacy, maybe set a limit on how long your phone convos are (they are paying the phone bills!) or how late they go (no calls after say, 11?)

If you just let them in on how you’re feeling and what you’ve been up to, they’ll be way more in tune with your needs. Just keep ‘em updated, talk things out and things will get so much better.  Good luck!

They live in two different hoses my mom lives with my brothers grandparents and my dad lives with my second cousin. They talk on the phone all the time but every time they do they always end up fighting and yelling at each other about something stupid. What should I do PLEASE help!!!!

It looks like they may just get a divorce. Its whats probably best for your family. Just take care of yourself and any siblings you have. Things will all turn out ok. I promise. xoxo kerra

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD
hey mod! I just got my exam marks back and i got 89% in math. It is an A in my school. I was pretty happy until i told my mom. She yelled at me for not doing good enough. I tried my best but she wants me to do better. She wants to get at least 97% but that is really hard for me. Whenever I try and explain that exams are hard in a calm mannor she just gets mad. How can i tell my mom that 89% is a good mark and that I can still make the honour roll with it? Please help

Hey babes, your mom just wants you to do well. If you have tried to speak to her and she wont listen, then just try to do better. Dont work yourself to the bone trying to get better grades but as long as you are doing well by your school's standards I think that is great. xo JANA

MOD MOD MOD... i REALLY REALLY want a cell phone... it was the only thing i wanted for x-mas nad my b-day and i didn't get one... my rents won't even let me buy one with my own money ( i have close to 100 dollars0 and the only reason the will give me is 'you don't need one' how can i prove to them that i am mature enough and responsible enough to have one oh i am 12 by the way and i think that is old enough to have one. thx ps they wont believe me when i tell the all my friiends (same age or younger) have them (they seriously do no exxateration!

Hey girl!

Diff families have different policies about when to get phones. It's not that they don't think you are mature, they just don't want you getting sucked into the world of chatting all night and texting til your fingers are blue. Maybe it's better that you don't have a phone-- and a lot of girls aren't allowed to have one til they are driving!! But if you still want to try, say it would be good for emergencies and getting picked from the movies and stuff. Maybe it's a good idea to wait to start pestering them again until close to your 13th birthday!!  <3 Your mod babes
