Must-Do List

Download for a Cause

As many of you girls may know, there was a devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on Jan. 12. Luckily, help is on the way and momentum is gathering on a new project called Download to Donate for Haiti.

This new program is part of the non-profit Music for Relief (MFR), created by Linkin Park. And in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and the Dave Matthews Band’s BAMA Works Haitian relieve effort, MFR is working to provide immediate aid with food, water, emergency medical supplies and long-term sustainable housing for the people affected by the natural disaster.

In this Download to Donate program, artists such as The All-American Rejects, Enrique Iglesias and Lupe Fiasco to name a few, have donated never-before-heard songs as downloadable MP3s to raise awareness for the relief effort.

Absolutely anyone can download this album and donations are appreciated, but totally voluntary. Essentially, a download is a donation. Even the smallest donation is a real help to the Haitian people as they are lacking food, clean water, shelter and medical attention. Unreleased tunes can be found at Musicforrelief.org, as well as on the corresponding artist’s website.

As if you needed another reason to donate for an important cause, 100% of the money received for the downloaded album will go to the relief effort. So why not show your support and get downloading today.

Donate again!
Another similar relief effort, sponsored by Paste Magazine, is Songs for Haiti, featuring artists such as Ludacris, Hanson, Low Anthem, Switchfoot and over 200 others.

Similar to Download to Donate for Haiti, if you have donated through Paste or any other charity (you just need to state where), you will have full access to their “vault” of MP3s (many of which are unreleased tracks). All proceeds will go to the Haitian relief effort, with 100% of the money contributed through the Paste site to be evenly distributed to three different charities:

Doctors Without Borders
The Red Cross
Wyclef Jean’s Yele

For more info head to Songs for Haiti

Know anyone affected by the Haitian earthquake? Have you or your fam made a donation yet? Blog it up, girls.

A guy in my class, yeah, his dad is down there and there were pics of him in Haiti online.

Not to sound heartless or anything, but you do realize that the quake might be just the eason we are donating. It caused all the death and stuff to happen. But what about years ago? My social studies teacher said they get hit with hurricanes and earthquakes each year. So should we donate just now until everyone is [barely] back on their feet or do we donate forever and hope that our world will bring justice to these people and build safer and sturier structures??? So do we wait until it's too late and Haiti goes down? Or do we save them today. Not just with relief efforts but the efforts of a life time, so that when we die, the pastor can proudly know and say that we helped Haiti become a stronger nation by giving them support for a life time. Not support for just 1 earthquake!

We could donate whenever we wanted. And yet we don't. Is that right? I find that higher world societies (aka, America) donates only when diaster strikes. Takes pity when something bad happens. Go on with their lives once no one cares anymore or everything is ok.

Just pointing that out.

Khleo16 on 1/19/2010 8:30:21 PM

My school is doing a contest between grades to see which grade can bring in more money for haiti. If every kid in my school brings in $1 we will have raised about $1,000 dollars. I'm so glad we're helping Smile

<3life<3him on 1/19/2010 7:39:25 PM

I love that everyone and everything is reaching out and helping Haiti in everyway possible. Everyone is talking about it and ways to help. two people from up here in Alaska that were volunteering over there were injured, the girl had to have her leg amputated but that just shows how far it effects people and every little bit helps. Haitians are getting tired and frustrated but if we work togeher and be thankful then everything will be o.k

Me and my friends have an oppurtunity to go to Haiti! I'm soo happy to go. But I'll be there for nearly a month, and I'm gonna be tutored by my social studies teacher (it's an honor program where he chooses three students to come along with him.) The problem is, I'm afraid in a way. I know that there are bodies all over the streets, and that freaks me out. I know its for a good cause, but how can I get over this? I'm so queezy around blood and that stuff, which I know the kids will be. Plese, how do I get over this?

Hey girl! Remember that if its through your school you're going to be safe.  Just think of it as a learning experience and you will gain so much from going! You won't be sheltered, you will see the truth and reality of the brutal situation.  It's good to prepare for anything, and let your teacher know you're worried about it. It's good to talk about what to expect!
