I secretly want to be a singer

Check these out, too...

  • YOLO or "Oh, no"? When taking a risk is the right thing to do

Secretly, I really want to be a singer (or at least sing well).

The problem is that I am pretty sure I don't have even an ounce of talent. I can't join my school's choir. Help please?

Hey girl,

Wow, that is such an awesome goal! I’m impressed by your ambitions and absolutely think you can go for your dreams. You know what they say. “Reach for the moon, and you’ll fall among the stars.”

Motivate your mind

It’s tough to think big when you have insecurities in the way. There’s a reason dreams are called “dreams,” – because we cook 'em up in our heads and hope they'll become reality. Transform your dreams into real-life by saying "yes, I can” instead of "no, I can’t.” You say, you're "pretty sure" you don't have even an ounce of talent, but how do you know until you try? Test things out first and then you can decide if you're destined for the your own album.

Talent is taught

Amazing songstresses (think Taylor Swift!) wouldn’t be so amazing if it weren’t for a little coaching from their voice teachers. Sure, they have natural talent, but to be truly good at something you have to work at it and learn from mentors (and your own mistakes!). I bet that there is more than just an ounce of musical talent in you. You just have to find where it’s stored – and an instructor will help you unlock it and sing it to the world!

Sing your own song

Voice lessons can be expensive. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still sing! Practice as much as you can on your own. Look up the lyrics to your favorite songs and belt it out. Try to match your voice to the tune of the artist. It’s great practice for when you do audition for your school’s choir (which you absolutely should!), or to show your parents how interested you are in taking voice lessons someday.

If Taylor could give you any advice, I’m sure she’d say the same thing. Sing your own song, and you will find the path that’s destined for you! And hey, if singing doesn't work out,  keep up that "can do" 'tude--it'll come in handy anywhere!

Xoxo,
Sammy D

i really want to learn extreme sports such as surfing, skateboarding, or BMX, but my parents think im going to kill myself or something. my dad was thinking about letting me get a surfboard but idk.... any ideas to convince them?

Hey babe! The best way to try is to talk with them one-on-one.  Wait til things are relaxed, you're calm, and they're in good moods.  Let them know you are VERY interested in trying ____ (pick one extreme sport), you could research it online, showing your parents the facts and how it really isn't that dangerous if you take pre-cautions.  Let them know you want to experience the world and you feel restricted and limited.  Hopefully they'll see your side and hear you out! Good luck!

My sister doesn't like it when i sing. wat should i do?

Hey girl! Continue to sing, just don't do it around her if it annoys her.  You could try singing in the shower and singing in front of other people instead!

If it's what you feel passionate about then go for it! I want to do the same thing... it's easier said than done, for sure, but if you don't share what you have than you'll never know!

MODERATOR!!!!!!!!!!! I was asking a guy about what we did in science on Friday. Then a rude girl was muttering flirting, flirting, flirting, flirting under her breath. When the guy answered me, the brat was like,"LOOK AT THAT!!!!" while pointing at us. That really hurt my feelings and I was very embarassed. After that, I heard her say to one of her friends,"If Madison puts her hands on him, I'm going to beat her up and make her life a nightmare!" She's been rude to me before. I give people chances, I'm nice to people, but she's just SO rude to me! Does this sound like bullying? I've been told that I'm the nicest girl in my class and little things don't bother me. But all those little things that brat has done to me got me SO depressed and I've been thinking about suicide! What should I do?

Hey Madison,

Don't let one girl get you down. It's not worth it to contemplate suicide because that just means that she wins. I bet she has a thing for the guy that you like, so she's trying to embarrass you in front of him. Or she's jealous of you and your friends and has picked you as a target. Try not to let it get to you and approach her if you need to because there is no reason for her to be mean to you.
