Get in the Spirit!

 
There’s only five days until the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and we couldn’t be more excited. The focus and determination of Olympians is beyond amazing—and totally admirable.

This week, spend some time looking at your goals and making sure your actions match up with your dreams. So if you’ve set your sights on JV softball, check in to see if you’re doin’ strength training, sprints or whatever your coach recommended for the off-season. If you wanna increase your flexibility for cheer tryouts, look at your notes and see if you’ve been stretching regularly.

Make whatever tweaks you gotta to get your routine on-track for success!

how can i get fit quickly? how do u get thin muscles without like bulky muscles in arms/legs? and how many calories should a person 5'0 eat? thanks




Hey girl, there's no quick way to get fit: getting healthy takes time and persistence. Be sure to exercise three times a week and eat healthy foods (fruits, veggies, etc.) You shouldn't count your calories: if you eat healthy foods, you don't have to worry about digits.

I weigh 104.5 lb and i'm 5'2"- i admit I'm really lazy- should i be concerned that I may be going overweight or need to be more athletic? i never have had a weight problem but passing 100 lb is a bit scaryy




Nope, you shouldn't be concerned at all! It's completely normal and very healthy to weigh over 100 pounds. Females need to weigh a certain amount in order to be healthy, have our bodies run efficiently, and get our periods.  You are fine! You have a healthy BMI!

My mom at times makes me so mad and accuses me of attitude and i admit I am a bit moody- how do i handle these situations? deep breaths and cooling down don't exactly help much

Hey babe! Try talking to her when you're calm.  Let her know it bothers you and you feel you aren't being listened to when you talk with her.  Or you could try writing a letter to her if that's easier.

MOD MOD MOD I have 2 questions. First, I go to ballet 3-4 times a week. one hour on tuesdays, wednesdays and saturdays, and an hour and a half on Sundays. Ballet combines lots of strength training and plenty of cardio. Should I exercise separate from ballet, or is the amount of ballet I do per week enough? Second, I am confused when it comes to washing my face. After I wash it with cleanser do I moisturize and then apply my acne gel, or the other way around?

 

Hey girl, dance is one of the best workouts there is, so that great that you get to do it so much. That sounds like a pretty healthy amount of exercise, but its up to you. If you want to do more, go for it, but if not, you're still getting an awesome workout! About your face, you're exactly right. Clean, moisture and then acne gel. Sounds like you're right on track little dancer!

hi mod,
whenever I got to try on clothes at the store it makes me feel really big and ugly. I did that today (just for fun with a friend) and I've realized how much weight I've gained since the beginning of the school year. I have gained *sigh* at least 40lbs. since I started middle school and I'm in 8th grade now. How can I boost my confidence? I think I have a cute face but a horrible body. I workout but nothing works, I eat healthy too and I've actually cut down on what I eat. I'm a huge stress eater too.

Hi Mod! Okay, so I play softball and the season starts back up in march or april and im sooo outta shape! if i could practice i could, but its too cold outside to ever do anything and i can't find the indoor batting cages my team uses. which i guess i should look up online where it's at. but what other things should i do to get ready? especially since i'm going to be playing with really experianced girls. This year will be my 4th year playing. Any ideas? Also, I'd like to make the JV next year at my school since I can't play on freshman next year since I'll be a sophmore. Well, maybe i could but I wouldn't want to be on a team with girls younger than me. I'd like to be girls my own age and up. But I didn't play on freshman this year since I missed the tryouts by accident. I just don't know if i'm good enough to make it. help?!

 

Hey girly, well if you're really serious about making the team, you might have to bear the cold and practice. Layer up really good, and ask one of your buds or neighbors to help ya. All ya need is a bat, ball and some determination. Good luck, hope ya make the team, my fingers are crossed!!!!Smile

Hey chicky, run about three days out of the week and increase your time each week. You could start off runing for 30 minutes then change that to 35 minutes and so on. You could even ask someone to come along and time you. Be sure to pack water, your ipod and a towel. Hope this helps and good luck with the team! Smile

ok so i like this guy and i just moved to my new school about a month ago. i have 4 classes with him and he rides my bus. the other day i was walking to homeroom and he was standing with his friend and his friend points at me and says "hey isn't that the girl you were talking about?" and my crush was like "shut up" and didn't talk to me for the rest of the day!! i'm pretty sure he was pointing at me but i don't know what he said about me. i'd appreciate some input on what u think! thanks!!!!!!! Hey girlss!! I know we're all excited about the Olympics, but I thought I would inform you of some horrible things going on in Canada.

There is this thing held every year and it's the Annual Seal Slaughter. Last year THOUSANDS of seals were brutally bludgeoned and some were skinned alive for their pelts to be used for clothing. You can find out more about this on the peta2 website. Peta2 is trying to get the Olympic coordinators to make people aware of this and to help stop the horrible slaughter. Please join us in this mission to save cute animal lives Laughing!

MOD!MOD! i was being a real idiot and pounded my hand down on a desk so hard because i was mad. now the pinkie side of my right hand is bent over at the wrist, red, swollen, and its in SOOOOO much pain to touch or move. my mom wont even look at it becasue she said iwas being too stupid. my dad said just keep and eye on it. i think somethign is really wrong and niether parents will listen. what should i do?

 

Hey girly, I'm sure you're okay. It will probably take a few days to go down and stop hurting. So in the meantime, like your dad said, keep and eye on it and try not to do too much with it. If you want you could apply some ice to it, that might help the swelling go down faster. No more banging on desks! lol Smile
